I honestly think Chester will be well clear of danger. Funny old game and all that though.

I think Dagenham or Tranmere will win it. Quite a lot of continuity there and strong squads.

Alabi was effectively our only striker last season with Akintunde out injured for most of the season and Richards being unbelievably shit after Christmas. We'll score goals this season with Hannah, White, Akintunde and Bell. I'm more concerned that without Sam Hughes we'll be poorer defensively. Having said that he was played out of position most of last season.

Like us (and a few others such as Macc) you've got a small squad so injuries will hurt us all hard. I think your first XI is looking decent, certainly stronger than last season. My area of concern would be the central defence. McCombe and Astles (who I do rate) seem exceptionally slow as a pairing.

The idiots at National League HQ are forcing us and Solihull to play our game in hand on Tuesday 5th September. This comes in the same month we have Torquay, Gateshead, Dover and Eastleigh away, on the back of Aldershot away at the end of August. Ourselves and Solihull agreed the 26th September instead, but the league have refused.

Solihull do appear to be offering to reimburse our supporters travel costs for it though, which is good of them.

What's the point of banning him from football for two months? It's not as if he was going to be playing football in that time anyway!

He's currently involved at AFC Totton I believe, and this is a ban from being involved in Football. I don't know why this is in a National League 17/18 thread since Wayne Shaw has no involvement with any current National League club

Because this is a generic thread and there was nowhere else to put it and its not worth starting a new thread over is it?

Indeed it is a general news thread. One for the National League 2017/18. AFC Totton are in the Southern League.

Also does it have to be put anywhere. It's bad enough that not many people can talk about Sutton's greatest FA Cup run ever without referencing Wayne Shaw's embarrassing attention grabbing (I'm not just talking about piegate either, the whole roly poly goalie stuff was cringeworthy not just for SUFC but our division) rather than our fine performance against a strong Arsenal side (Deacon and Collins both hitting the crossbar are big 'what if' moments for me).

Well Dundee obviously took notice of Roarie Deacon's performances for Sutton Utd in the Cup considering they signed him up!

You should know that 'moderators' are allowed to post whatever they like, wherever they like and there's not a single thing we can do about it.

Actually Deacon's performances in the cup run is the 2nd most common thing people mention (and number 1 amongst actual Football fans). Good lad is Roarie

What is your playing budget? :err: Are Guiseley still semi-pro?!
No idea (does any fan?) other than it's reported to be more than last season. If by semi-pro you mean part time then yes we are. Saturday, Tuesday evening, Thursday evening. Not easy to compete with full time teams with so little time to work on game plans etc not to mention fitness levels.

My question is how Disguiseley will manage to renovate their ground to conform to football league standards. For one, you'd need to extend the perimeter around the ground. Would that involve building over one of the astroturf pitches, then doing a Woking and building a massive stand in the home end with a cliff-face ascent? And how would any of this get past the NIMBYs of Ings Crescent and beyond? If you smuggled a Polly Pocket into Nethermoor Park then they'd be screaming in your face about planning permission.

I can't see league football ever taking place at Nethermoor. Just look at the planning battle to get permission for this level and all the elements that had to be ditched. Ground share would make most sense i think.

I believe it's against FA rules to organise a ground share in order to take a promotion, besides which where would you play? Not being mean, but the Cougars would be your best bet!

Were those roofed terraces behind each net ditched in the end, then? It's a real shame for us spectators that they never came about. I really don't have any time for the sorts of people who choose to live next to sports grounds or music venues and then complain about the scenes.

We're not traditional rivals but we have that friendly thing going on obviously, so it's a bit more of a drag when Guiseley fans end up dotting the corner or our main stand, 100 yards away from our terrace, or when we pack out an open end behind a goal. A ground that fits can add a lot to the spectacle.

Cougars was mooted a good few years ago but they decided to continue at Nethermoor. It may again become an option. First things first, we have to be good enough to stay in the National before any of this becomes remotely interesting!

Chasing the Football League dream by moving out your area to ground share with someone else is a very bad idea.....Guiseley should really learn from our mistake.

It ''only'' took us 24 years to get our own ground back in Maidstone. In the process it killed the original club, we had to drop down to pretty much park football (step 10 of non league), lost pretty much 90% of the fan base, spent many years ground sharing at dreadful places like Ashford & Sittingbourne and the club nearly going belly up again (our current owners came in & saved us by paying off debts of 300-400k).....all that for living the dream of the Football League for 3 years.

You'll get no argument from me on that front. The club tried to get planning for a new ground a few years ago on the old Highroyds Hospital site but £60k+ later the planners refused permission due to objections from stuck up Tranmere Park residents. There is insufficient space around Nethermoor to create a FL ground.
Steve Parkin is no mug having built and floated his company from one man and a van at the beginning. I have every confidence that he will lead the board in investigating, plannning and achieving the right outcome for the club.

Did not mind guiesleys ground, was good you could go into the club house at half time but it had the feel of a evo stick ground, reminded me of matlock towns ground. Expansion would seem limitied due to the cricket club
