Barnet vs Aldershot Town

And, er, thats it.

We've won 3 out of 5 away, and none out of 5 at home, so probably a good thing we're away tonight.

Barnet are in good form and will be inspired by the signing of Alfie Pavey who I am sure will want to create a good impression (I dont think he is too fond of us either after a failed loan spell early in his career)

Interesting to see whether Pavey starts.

I was very impressed with our general approach play against Maidenhead but we were desperately lacking physical presence up front.

Pavey ticks that box and now provides us with a genuinely different option to hopefully complement our excellent approach play.

He could be a big signing for us, even without being prolific himself. Let’s see.

As for tonight - I would probably expect a similar game to Saturday. We will have plenty of possession but Aldershot will carry a threat. Difficult one to call given Aldershot’s excellent away form.

A win would propel us into a very good position indeed. Here’s hoping...

Not too much to report on so far. Aldershot have had some promising situations but their final ball is lacking. Fonguck has forced their keeper into a couple of saves.

Quite right! Nobody should want to be in a club that wouldn't have them as a member.*

Great three points, that. Up to 5th and on a bit of a roll.

Fonguck making an immediate impression. He was excellent against Maidenhead and scored what sounded a great goal today. Great to have him back.

Halifax away next. Will their ‘Champions’ banner be making an appearance?

It was a great goal. Pavey’s presence created space for our creative players to work in. More of the same again please!

Tell me about it. A lot of our fan base aren’t prepared to make the journey to the Hive to see us play in the National League.

With those sort of crowds I really wonder how you afford some of your players (and before you ask yes I'm talking about Loach!) . Where's the money coming from?

The Hive makes a lot of money from other sources - eg. Event hosting, multiple 3G pitches, hiring of facilities for larger/international teams and advertising etc.

The club itself is slowly stagnating/reversing due to a variety of reasons, but these other sources of income keep us pretty well prepared financially.

Our attendances are similar to those achieved in the early 2000’s when we were also in the Conference tbf.

I would also expect that attendances will start to rise if we continue doing well.

However, it is a shame that more isn’t being done to bring new (and old) fans through the gates. Our off field revenue must put us in a stronger position than ever before to attract kids, students, OAPs, public sector workers or whatever demographic we wanted to attract from the local area.

Having crowds of 2,000+ would produce a number of benefits, even if if we had to take a hit on gate receipts by offering free or hugely discounted tickets.
