The Cryne family have been in discussions regarding a potential takeover of Barnsley Football Club for the last few months with an investor consortium led by Chien Lee of NewCity Capital and Pacific Media Group, which is led by Paul Conway and Grace Hung.

The best interests of Barnsley Football Club and its fans have always been at the forefront of everybody’s minds and the Cryne family is now happy to officially announce that a deal has been agreed between all of the parties.

The Club have gained English Football League approval for the change in majority shareholder and our new shareholders have now taken up their positions on the board of Barnsley Football Club.

Patrick Cryne believes that the new ownership has all the synergies, skills and resources needed to make a success of the future of Barnsley Football Club.

The purchase of a football club at any level is a long and complicated process which requires a high level of confidentiality, therefore we appreciate all the patience and cooperation from our fan base.

We would like to thank the English Football League for their cooperation and help during the completion of this process.

Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye stated: “We would like to thank every member of our loyal fan base for their patience and continued support over recent months. An exciting chapter is opening for Barnsley Football Club and we are looking forward to the future together.”

A press conference will be held at Oakwell Stadium on Wednesday 20th December, 2pm, with the presence of Chien Lee, Paul Conway, Grace Hung and Gauthier Ganaye. A full announcement regarding the structure of the new ownership of Barnsley Football Club as well as the composition of the new board will be presented to the media, along with the objectives for the future of the Club both on and off the pitch.

Chien Lee and Pacific Media Group led a group which purchased 80% of OGC Nice in June 2016. Mr. Lee is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OGC Nice where Mr. Conway is also a Director. In their first year of ownership, OGC Nice finished in third place in France’s Ligue 1 and qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

Co-Chairman Chien Lee says: “We are very excited to partner with the Cryne family and invest in Barnsley Football Club. The Cryne family have exhibited spectacular leadership building Barnsley Football Club over the last 14 years and we are excited to join them to further the growth of the club.”

Co-Chairman Paul Conway says: “Similar to our investment in OGC Nice, we expect to further enhance the academy, playing squad, commercial operations and fan experience of Barnsley Football Club. Barnsley has some of the most passionate fans in England and we look forward to meeting many of its supporters in the upcoming weeks.”

We are delighted to further announce that Mr. Lee, Mr. Conway and Ms. Hung joined the Reds in the Directors Box at Griffin Park on Saturday, showing their support to Paul Heckingbottom and his players, along with all staff and fans connected to Barnsley Football Club. The Club would also like to welcome Neerav Parekh and Billy Beane, who will also be investing in Barnsley Football Club with Mr. Lee and Pacific Media Group.

Whenever I see these Chinese takeovers I just think what's in it for them?

Is it with the aim of recouping money and profiting long term by getting promoted to the Prem? or are they just bored as fuck?

So that's Villa, Wolves, Birmingham, Barnsley, Cardiff, Sheff Utd, Sheff Wed, QPR and Reading owned by random Asian guys/ groups now.

Few more clubs like QPR, Sunderland, Fulham & Forest also owned by foreign groups with no real links to the club too.

Just seems sketchy, at least in the long term, good if it works like Leicester but there seems to be more failure than success.

We'll see what happens.

A takeover has been on the cards for ages and I'm confident Cryne hasn't sold the club to the first genuine bid that came along. Hoping that they carry on as we are but with financial stability and the capability of preventing what happened to the team last January again.

Could all go to the shit but the way football is heading, and has been for a last long time, then if you can't beat them, join them.

At least we don't have to worry about them changing the club colours.

McCabe is still our main man in charge, the Prince bloke is a complete waste of space.

Whats in it for them is Football is a huge commodity in China and something they are allowed to invest in under there governments stricter foriegn policy. There are vast amounts of student housing and other facilities bring built in Sheffield financed by Chinese businesses for example. Chinese students make up something like 20% of all post graduate courses in some uni (Uni of Sheff being one hence the above)

A few years ago everyone was moaning we needed cheaper tickets and to be more like the Bundesliga. We took the other route though, soon the entire crowd of footy will be people in pompadour wigs, each seat will have a built in orphan child who will sing and clap for you, so you dont have to stop chortling and eatings moon truffles.

Patrick Cryne epitomises everything thats good in running a football club for the benefit of the whole community. I am sure he has done everything in his power to ensure the takeover continues to see Barnsley Football Club flourish.-wish the club well ( no more pies now plenty of chow mein and noodles on the menu )

Feeder club for Nice by sounds of it, never rated most of top tier in France, most sides would struggle in Championship.

Are these new owners underestimating Championship?

Based on what? Other than the consortium has a stake in Nice?

He's just panicking that you are gonna become better than his team , a bit of jealousy I sense as the takeover of them lot is failing fucking miserably at this moment. We're on our way they sang , not where they fucking thought though.

£750k spent on Moore, £1m offered for Williams, shows there is some money there but I can't see Barnsley going mental.

Harvey Barnes seems a loss if he doesn't go back on loan.

Had terminal cancer didn't he hence selling the club?

Seems like he was a local businessman and fan who put Barnsley back on track through some tough times even when battling his own illness.

Sad to hear about Cryne. Not many of these football club owners around who are genuinely supporters. Big loss to Barnsley.
