Ok one of the ties I traditionally hate, Palace away. Hopefully the players are up for the battle it will be (night k/o the place will be buzzing), and don't do any silly stuff unlike in the past there. Keeping Zaha quiet is the main task obvs, and then we have to be sharp on the break against them. We do that, we'll be fine. If not, I can easily see dropped points.

Palace 1 - 3 Liverpool

Just checked your head to head (prem) played 18, Liverpool 10 wins, Palace 5, draws 3.

Thought it would have been more even than that as like you associate Palace as a bit of a bogey team for Liverpool.

We've won 4 out of the last 5 against them, but they were the last team to beat us at Anfield in the league, and before that they had won the previous 3 meetings. They tended to exploit our weaknesses well in the past. Now that we are a lot more solid, I expect us to get the job done, but its just one of those fixtures that no Liverpool fan likes.

I imagine the Gerrard incident doesn't help neither.

It's only the second game of the season Salty mate. Just consider yourself lucky Dwight Gayle isn't playing.

Salty, put your little raisins away.

You can't tell everyone who will listen that you've had the best transfer period since records began but then shit your pants whenever you actually have to play someone.

OK mate?

I'd be more confident against a top six club over Palace or Leicester away (ok they will be rubbish now without Mahrez, sorry Jim). You just have some teams that are traditionally bogey sides, like you lot used to have with Southampton, or Chelsea before they got oil-funded.

I'd rather face Barcelona in the CL than Palace away, and I'm serious on that!

Yep, Palace can be a difficult prospect on their day, nobody likes going to play them. As Saltire says the key thing will be to keep Zaha quiet and I think Liverpool have enough in defence to do that these days.
Palace 1 (Zaha is bound to nick one) Liverpool 3

Lets put all the cliches inclusive of bananas and skins to bed for this fixture ,lets face it we've hung out the back of that one for a good number of years. If we silence those Cockney fucking reprobates in the Holmesdale Road Stand then half the battle is won :bg:

If we are to stand a chance in hell of challenging City in the league (fwiw, I think it'll be over by January) we need to win nigh on every fixture home and away against the expected bottom 14 teams in the league. That's 84 points, meaning we'd have to get 16 out of a possible 30 (win at home, one draw away) from the other top six candidates to reach 100 points, as City did last year.

I don't think City will reach 100 points again and I think we can better 16 out of 30 against the top six, this year especially. But for that to even matter we need to stay within, imo, three points of City going into the CL knockout rounds in February (where the likelihood of variance, possibly favoring either team, increases). For that to happen, we need to win every single game against the perceived bottom 14 up until that point.

I don't think it can be done but hopefully we can make it 2/2. We absolutely have to win.

Those kind of calls are always tough. Sakho is obviously there tripping Salah, but Salah was basically standing still so probably could have avoided it.

I’d say they tend to be given though, fwiw.

When it's slowed down it's a definite penalty, clumsy at best from Sakho.

Watchable first half. I'm expecting goals in the second half with Palace coming out.

Gomez was very good today, Alisson steady as a rock and I thought Gini never stopped running in mf. Good win.

Yeah the spine was pretty solid and we kept Zaha reasonably quiet too. Had we had our shooting boots on also it would've been a rout.

Salty, less of the pre-match histrionics next time.

I'll check out the highlights later.

Its only reserved for Palace games mate, you'll have my full-on delusion for the rest of the campaign you'll be pleased to know. :)

A relatively comfortable performance ,completely nullified any torment Palace could inflict ,combative in the middle and rigid in defense. In all truth we could have played that game in slippers as we never had to really force the play and our traveling contingent were once again in full voice to drown out the expected clarion call from those in the Holmesdale.
