Spitting may be the worst thing you can do on a football pitch, but eye-gouging is the worst thing you can do out of your car window.

You don't think a Sky Sports pundit poking his head out of his car window while driving and spitting on a kid is worth mentioning?

Of course it is. Carragher's behaviour is vile and he deserves punishment, only a prick would defend him. I simply find it amusing it was you who first posted about it given that the vast majority of your content and the posts you like is/are about Liverpool football club. Hence the comparison to JohnnyTodd.

He clearly wasn't expecting to be filmed and had it not been and the incident was reported I suspect he would have denied it, knowing it was simply his word against theirs. As such his apology doesn't mean a whole lot if you ask me. It was a real shitty, cowardly thing to do, even under provocation.

He's surely going to be sacked.

Rumours flying around that its just a 2 week suspension. If that's the case then shocking considering Gray and Keys were axed for a sexist joke

Sky's statement did not say how long Carragher's suspension would last and, on his future as a pundit with the company, the 40-year-old said "it remains to be seen and it's Sky's decision".

"What I would say is there is no doubt what I have done is disgusting and I apologise for it," added Carragher.

"I'll be vilified for it and rightly so. What I would hope is that five seconds of madness doesn't represent me and, hopefully, the general public will look at the 20 years of my career and see it as a mistake.

"I haven't offered my resignation but they have made it known that they are very disappointed about the shame now hanging over the name."

He added: "My own kids are disappointed and a little bit upset obviously. It's a poor message, not just in the game, but it's a poor message for everyone out there."

Carragher was supposed to be acting as a pundit for Danish television channel TV3 Sport, which is part of the Modern Times Group media company, for the second leg of Manchester United's last-16 Champions League tie at home to Sevilla on Tuesday.

However, he has been pulled from their coverage as they investigate the spitting incident, with MTG Sport executive vice-president Peter Norrelund saying they had sent an employee to speak to Carragher before deciding what further action to take.

"I want to listen to his version. With the impact of story there was no need to send him to Old Trafford for the game," said Norrelund.

Agreed. Just an idea but perhaps they wanted Keys and Gray out anyway and were happy for the excuse.

Sky don't give a fuck whether it was right or wrong by Jamie, nor do they re sexist comments. They're right now trying to gauge what kind of impact this has on Jamie Carragher's public image, and how this in turn will affect Sky's. This will then be weighed against how valuable he is in actual numbers. The ONLY thing that matters is what comes out on top, how it affects Sky's image vs what he's worth.

It has nothing to do with PC or morals or bullshit like that. The two weeks suspension is there to give insight as to which side wins.

Despicable from Carragher. Spitting is the lowest of the low. Even worse is the father of the daughter not getting out of his car to confront him.

I suspect Gray and Keys had been at the sexist stuff for a while and it wasn't just one incident.

Didn't one of the Sky presenter keep the job even after drunk driving?

"It's vile, it's disgusting and it's an absolute disgrace. It's one thing playing like that, playing as poorly as he did, but it's another thing to go and spit at an opposition player. It's now down to West Ham to react and show the fans that that type of behaviour's not tolerated. It's an absolute disgrace."

Carragher on the Masuaku spitting incident.

I think what he must have meant to say is "It's vile, it's disgusting and it's an absolute disgrace unless, of course, you do it to a fourteen-year-old girl. It's one thing playing like that, playing as poorly as he did, but it's another thing to go and spit at an opposition player. It's now down to West Ham to react and show the fans that that type of behaviour's not tolerated. It's an absolute disgrace to do this to anyone but a fourteen-year-old girl."

One or both of those quotes might be made up, I don't know.

What a depressing story all round.

Still, didn't he beat up some guy outside a McDonalds and nobody really cared?

Clearly an awful person, let's hope we never see him on TV again.

Christ, things like this make me angry. He fucked up. It was a stupid and shitty thing to do. But we live in a world where despicable things happen every day and quite frankly he had a few seconds of madness. We've all done stupid things that we regret and wish we could turn back the clock on. I really hope he doesn't get the sack for this. He's apologised and showed what comes across as genuine remorse.

The fact that "despicable things happen every day" doesn't mean that doing something stupid and disgusting (to - directly or indirectly - a fourteen-year-old girl, no less) should have little to no repercussions. He's in the public eye and he should know better, I hope he gets the sack. If he gets a short suspension he will have gotten away with it.

Why was the bloke filming on his phone whilst driving? Should be concentrating on the road, especially with his kid there. Clearly a twat. Hope he gets done for it.

What I dislike with these sorts of stories is that the 'victim' often goes to great lengths to elicit the reaction. It has happened before between fans and players. The guy who filmed it couldn't contain his delight that Jamie Carragher spat at his daughter.

I've only just seen the full video, with sound. It takes nothing away from how dirty and vile Carragher was but the first thing I noticed after the incident itself was how strangely happy the dad appeared to be, despite his daughter clearly being distressed after being hit by spit. Even setting aside the fact he was recording with his phone when driving, what a dick. You could almost hear the pound signs in his voice.

The bloke is clearly no victim and was definitely being a prick but he didn't go to much lengths to provoke. All he did repeat the scoreline a few times. And in his car he'd be very easy to ignore. Very bizarre reaction from Jamie (and really disgusting).

Ever spat at a 14 year old girl in the face?

Ever beaten up some guy and received a police caution?

This is not something normal people do, Carragher is not a first offender. He deserves absolutely no sympathy.
