Is this acceptable?

Man United I believe will have five players unavailable on Friday.

The World Cup ended mid July!

Totally unacceptable in my opinion...

I'm no sports scientist, but it's a long season just about to start. I would have thought it better in the longer run, if players who were heavily involved in the World Cup have a good rest, with a slightly delayed pre-season fitness ramp up, before going into full pelt competitive games. More likely to get the best out of them right through to May 2019 doing that, as opposed to rushing them back to 90 minute PL football for the first game of the season. Especially if United (or similar clubs) are wanting to fight on multiple fronts over the season.

Disagree.

These are young men not old men.

They've had a month to recharge their batteries...

Would normally agree with you Mark, but our right back got to the quarter finals with Denmark, playing every game, and played the full 90 mins for us on Saturday.

To be fair we don’t have the Champions League to contend with, but we also have 8 more League games.

I suspect it’s partially a squad depth ploy by Mourinho, he does it every year.

I think there is something to allowing players to fully recuperate, but definitely suspect Mourinho is playing hard ball with his board/whoever gets the players in.

It's like the one mechanism still existing in football that favors the weaker teams, as the stronger teams consist pretty much exclusively of full internationals these days.

So please don't change this too.

Footballers these days my god. Getting paid to roll around and go on holiday. I tell you what in my day they wouldn't have got away with this, they would have been giving a good lashing by the coach, £50 a week, one weekend away in Dover a season and they'd have been thankful to have it. World's gone to pot.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm inclined to agree with Mr Bauer but then I'm not an expert. Mind you, the thought does occur to me that the clubs are probably somewhat consoled by the thought that a player doing well at the world cup A is probably going to make a valuable contribution to the team and B is probably going to sell a chunk of shirts. Is that just me being cynical?

Spot on. The same clubs who have rushed them back will be moaning that they’re burnt out by March.

Well we've got the same situation with Vardy and Maguire, but we haven't spent 400mill odd on a squad that should have the depth to cover. We also had one of our best players taken by some fking side that probably doesn't need him. So Jose, take your excuses and get to fck lad.

KDB injured. I wonder whether this will a pattern for the guys who went deep into the world cup. They've not had sufficient rest. The body does recover but you need to help it. One of the reasons I think Spurs will struggle.

You're assuming KDB's injury is definitely linked with the amount of football he has played in the last 12 months. Possible of course, but surely a muscle strain or soft tissue injury would be more likely to have happened in that case, rather than a knee injury.

Or perhaps it's just a case of a player getting injured for no apparent reason like what usually happens you know...

Nah, like your previous comment you're a clueless twonk. Injuries will occur this season, come back when they do chump.

Well, I don't know about anyone else but Abertawe's concise and well thought out argument has certainly got me convinced.

Players get injured at random times in their career. Some hardly ever get injured and are lucky whereas others get injured often. A lot of that is genetics and good luck/bad luck.

As the season unfolds it'll become apparent that two years of competitive football with just a few weeks of rest in between will result in injuries and dampen output. You pair sound like 1980's PE teachers.

Why do you think Ronaldo chose to join Juve - do you not think he recognises the majority of his new squad have had a full rest over the summer and so the capability of keeping up intensity deep into the season as he chases another CL medal is strengthened?

Funny you should mention teachers as I feel like one talking to a 5 year old.

Like I said (and you conveniently ignored), I'm not even disagreeing with you. What I am saying is that, given the type of injury KDB is meant to have, you can't make an automatic assumption it's as a result of the amount of football he has played. And you are doing that.

Are you saying that's wrong and its absolutely as a result of the football he's played?

Except I didn't once say KDB's injury was specifically down to the world cup - that's why I ignored your post because it wasn't relevant.

We've not seen how KDB's injury occurred - it's absolutely pointless to make assumptions like you're doing - even worse when attempting to be all smarmy. If his studs gave way in opposite momentum to his body in some freak event then yes fuck all to do with the world cup but ligament injuries can and do arise from overuse. As I say, KDB was not the basis of my post.

Yeah, when you questioned if "this" would being a pattern for other players too as a result of the World Cup you weren't doing that. Absolutely not.

Careful you don't trip over whilst backtracking there.

What the fuck is this discussion

More games increases the risk of injury, fewer games decreases it. But a player playing once a week can get injured and a player playing constantly for 48 weeks can stay fit. It's not even a discussion get over yourselves

So it transpires KDB had done his ligaments on the same knee back in 2016. But sure 68 games played in the space of 12 months - 10th most amount of minutes played at the WC - just a couple of weeks rest since then. Definitely not a contributory factor, I mean his injury screams overuse but nah Pagz & Beur know better.

What an absolute tart you are.

Players used to be 70 games a season on uneven pitches full of mud and various other bits of shite.

Injuries are pure good luck or bad luck.

Funny I used to go running 7 miles per day and even first thing in the morning after getting in at 3am from a boozer and I never once sustained a hamstring It's the limbering up that might be the issue.

Why do players go out on the pitch for ages before and game and perform all this nonsense? There is no need for it. Five minutes of stretching and you're good to go...

Why would be worried about a hamstring strain doing jogging? Of any activity least likely to nag the hammy it's jogging. Slow gradual shite.

You're so ignorant to science.
