So another chance for Portsmouth to get back to back wins for the first time this season. We've been win-loss-win-loss lately which has been massively frustrating. We looked far from convincing for the first half and hour against Bristol Rovers, and with better creativity and more importantly without some epic defending by our boys we'd have been losing at half time. If we can keep it tight we have more than enough quality going forward as shown by us having 3 on target and 3 goals. Although we still managed to miss a couple of easy chances. Our biggest problem has been injuries at the back. We've had 5 different players at Left back and 3 at Right back. Looks like our first choice CH burgess didn't train today so I expect another change at the back with Thompson moving in and Talbot at RB. Happy that Eion Doyle looks injured for Oldham as he's in form and was pretty poor for us on loan, so would have been nailed on to score. Typical we play Oldham just as the sacking manager honeymoon period has started. We desperatly need to score the first goal to know Oldham back otherwise their confidence will soar and we'll struggle to get back into the game.

team likely to be

McGee
Talbot Thompson Clarke Donoahue
Lowe Close O'Keefe Kennedy
Pitman
Hawkins

If we score first and quite early I think we will roll over most teams. I'm going for another Pitman double and 3-1

Depends how our defence performs because we're scoring regularly at the moment, though Doyle will be a miss.

Davies has scored in 5 of his last 6 games. Maybe the players will want to impress a certain Clarence Seedorf too.

Head says Pompey 3-2 Latics
Heart says Pompey 1-2 Latics

As Nelson said - the continued disruption of our defence isn't helping much. In Pitman though, we have a striker who scores a very high percentage of chances at this level. Without him we'd probably be in the relegation zone at the moment.

I'm hoping Oldham got the "new-manager bounce" out of their system in mid-week and I'm going for a 2-1 win to solidify our top half position - Lowe & Pitman for us, Davies for the Latics.

If you think the presence of a no-mark like Seedorf (4 Champions Leagues, 1 Spanish Title, 1 Spanish Super Cup, 2 Italian Titles, 1 Italian Cup, 1 Italian Super Cup, 2 Dutch Titles, 2 Dutch Cups, 1 World Club Cup, 2 Dutch Super Cups, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 2 Uefa Supercups) is going to worry us, you can think again.

Sounds like we've absolutely battered them this first half. 15 shots according to BBC.

Probably pay for it 2nd half though when they have someone like Pitman.

Awful. Was actually surprised we scored. Talbot colliding with and knocking out Thompson was just ridiculous.. a day to forget with us.

Got pretty feisty too - lots of posturing/coin throwing/shit chatting going on behind the Milton End after the game and now tons of police cars heading into town

Class that from Latics. Byrne and Doyle in particular but all of them on the pitch today deserved that 3 points.

In terms of the action off the pitch, how utterly embarrassing. Has a pair of man boobs ever got a group of lads so excited like that before? It's one thing giving it large during the game, it's another thing throwing coins at people who have nowhere to go.

Didn't see owt else but heard the area around Fratton Park being described as a 'war zone'. All pretty embarrassing and all stemming from not being able to take a defeat to little Oldham.

Finally latics are starting to show the form they have been threatening for the past 5 or six games (excluding rotherham).

Still early so at least we have a chance to play catch up, but sounded a cracking performance. B interesting to hear the thoughts of Portsmouth fans about us

Yeah a small section of our fans (the usual suspects..) were an embarrassment today. Not helped by the equally idiotic couple of fans in the away end but there's no excuse for it whatsoever. Not to mention the isolated booing of Talbot which was equally ridiculous, even though he was having a nightmare game.

It's difficult to comment on Oldham's performance because of how bloody dire we were! You were decent but a way off the best sides we've faced so far (Wigan/Scunthorpe etc.). Had we not been in the midst of a defensive injury crisis that was made doubly worse 20 minutes in I think it would have been a much closer game. You have a powerful and effective front two in Davies and Doyle though. Typical that Doyle scored against us!

Trust me, Oldham are a goliath compared to most of the club's we've lost to in recent history. I wasn't at the game but sounded like we were well beaten today.

Not good to hear about the crowd trouble. Hopefully it's a one-off and the mongs have got it out of their system (whatever 'it' is).

Congrats to Oldham who were definitely in a false position - like the posters on here have been telling us. As for us, we need to find some fit defenders and stop getting self-inflicted head injuries.

We will happily take all your rejects if they are all as good as him. Don't believe for a second he wouldn't do a job in the championship

You massively under-estimate the gulf between strikers in the two leagues then.

Beckford did nothing at that level and Garner struggles to hit double figures, both of them are on another level to Doyle.

Doyle looks absolutely lost in the Championship.

Please let him leave for free in January then.

Not condoning the behaviour for one minute. Totally embarrassing.

A small section of theirs were down the front, and really started to ramp up the 'green street' goading after their second. All teams have a bunch that will gesticulate, but this was incessant from a small number. On the whole it was banter, but a few started to really irk our lot, and were loving every minute of it. Pompey is not a place to constantly goad without retribution, and low and behold a bunch of ours snapped. Idiots.

Trust me, it had nothing to do with losing to "little old Oldham' as i've seen suggested. We've lost regularly to the likes of Torquay, Accrington, Aldershot etc in recent history, so Oldham seemed like a giant. I remember in the 80's, Oldham were a real rival of ours as we both chased the first division for a while, and a 4-1 home spanking in the early 90's at ours.
