So, I believe every club has released their retained lists, but where do you need to strengthen and which players would realistically like to see fill the gaps.

Of the players still under contract, who currently starts?

For us, we are midfield heavy and very light in defensive/attacking areas.

GK: Richard O’Donnell

RB: Kelvin Mellor
CB: Anthony O’connor
CB: Ben Richards-Everton
LB: ???

RW: Sean Scannell
CM: Hope Akpan
CM: ??? (Jake Reeves)
LW: ???

ST: Eoin Doyle
ST: ???

Subs:

GK: Sam Hornby
CB: Tyler French
RB: Joe Riley
CM: Danny Devine
CM: Josh Wright
ST: Shay McCartan
ST: Omari Patrick

We could face losing Scannell, Doyle, Akpan, Wright and Riley, to name just a few. All on large wages and all underperformed last season - but all more than capable at this level.

Currently, we need another experienced CB; a LB and LW as a priority. We’re still awaiting to hear back from Luca Colville and Jermaine Anderson re: contract offers - but they’re squad fillers.

A lot of work still to be done, and I’m sure we’re not on our own.

Only a bit of fun, but it’ll be interesting for those fans of clubs who have just entered this league to see what we’ll be up against next season.

Got a pretty strong starting 11, especially the midfield. If we can keep that midfield four and keep them fit they will be very good. Some absolute dross though still signed on bigish contracts (Rory McArdle and James Perch notably). We need to sign some more players but we cant unless we somehow offload some players. Don't really rate any of our strikers either.

We have exactly 11 players signed up, no keeper but beggars can't be choosers.

Vincenti, MWH, Marsh and probably Evans will drop to the bench once we sign some more players. Hopefully we revert back to a smaller squad of about 18-20 like we had under Askey rather than last season's 32 man disaster.

I've not included Miller or Bowery as I expect them both to leave. That will leave us needing another striker, I'd also like to see us bring a back up left back in. If we lose Ng or Kirk they will need replacing aswell.

So, a solid squad at present but we’re certainly weaker than we were at the beginning of the season.

We need two keepers and need to improve our full backs as Sweeney and Woodman are both very slow but solid on the ball.

I’d like another attacking midfielder to replace Boateng, plus two strikers as Forte has a knee made of cheese and don’t particularly rate him.

Parkes and Atangana have been solid signings but I think we need better if we’re going to improve on last season.

At the moment our best XI:

GK: Scott Brown

RB: James Gibbons
CB: Nathan Smith
CB: Leon Legge
LB: Adam Crookes

RW: David Worrall
CM: Tom Conlon
CM: Luke Joyce
LW: Christian Montano

CF: Tom Pope
CF: Ricky Miller

It would probably stay up and is pretty close to our regular best XI last season bar Manny and Clarke.

Clarke if signs would go in as would Oyeleke.

Looking at about 7-8 more signings as we’ve got rid of most of the deadwood

Goalkeeper is arguably the leagues best

Defensively that’s decent enough. We had a remarkable clean sheet record, even more remarkable compared to league position.

Worrall is quality, Pope is 15 goal a season if fit.

We need:

Two centre halves
Second keeper
Two Full Backs
Two strikers, Miller possibly is off.
Winger of pace ideally two
Two central midfielders

We have more than a full squad and we need to lose some. Who is anyone's guess but here goes...

GK. Glenn Morris
Rwb. Lewis Young
Lwb. David Sesay
Ch. George Francombe
Ch. Joe McNerney
Ch. Tom Dalison
Cm. Josh Payne
Cm. Jimmy Smith
Cm. Panutche Camarra
LW. Felipe Morais
CF. Mason Bloomfield
RW. Ashley Nadesan

Subs
Ricardo German. (st)
Ibrahim Meite. (St)
A N-Grant. (Am)
Joe Doherty. (Lb)
Taryn Alarkahia (am)
Dannie Bulman (DM)
Reece Grego-Cox (st)

This is how I'd expect us to line up butif I was manager I'd change it somewhat. I've probably missed some players as well.

I'm expecting Palmer and Poleon to leave this summer but if they don't we have a preponderance of forwards.

We need a back up keeper. Morris has done well, especially considering he was signed as a coach. We need better centre Half's and Sesay is actually a right back playing out of position.

If Miller and Bowery both leave, as they probably will do, we need 2 attackers, not one. If they go, our CF options will be an ageing, slightly injury prone 35-year-old and the unproven Lewis Reilly. We need another striker to replace the 3 strikers that will have left, plus a winger as well. Because even if Kirk stays, lose him for an extended period and you are praying Dale can produce, or that Ainley actually realises his potential.

What I like about this team though is that it's balanced. Yes, we rely on big producers. Nolan, Wintle, Porter, Kirk. But losing 1 player won't kill us. Still, I think we need one or two decent signings to give us that boost we need if pushing for the top 7 is really the aim.

Our starting XI at the moment would be along the lines of..

GK: David Cornell
LB: Joe Martin
RB: ?
CB: Aaron Pierre
CB Jordan Turnbull
CM: Shaun Mcwilliams
CM: Chris Lines
RW: Sam Hoskins
LW: Junior Morais
CAM: Matt Warburton
ST: Harry Smith.

Still plenty of work to do. Also Curle may well go with 3-5-2 so would need to change the personnel slightly.

Strong through the spine with 3 good strikers for this level, Dobson will be one of the best midfielders in the league next season, and we look promising in CB with Scarr, Kory Roberts who has real potential to be special, and now James Clarke.

Need a LB, wingers and a keeper and then some depth to the defence. A midfielder too if Kinsella doesn't stay, who would also be immense at this level if he does.

Right now, under Jolley's favoured wing back system we're probably currently at something like...

GK: McKeown
RWB: Hendrie
LWB: Ring
CB: Davis
CB: Ohman
CB: Pollock
CM: Hessenthaler
CM: Clifton
CM: Whitehouse
ST: Vernam
ST: Cook

...however, there are a few glaring problems with this. Firstly. Vernam and Cook can't operate as a front two together. They're both hardworking and have decent touches and Vernam has got a bit of pace, but they can't hold the ball up. Secondly, there are doubts over whether or not Ring is good enough and I personally feel that Hendrie is much better as a conventional full back. Considering he's one of our best outfield players, I'm really not sure that wing backs are the way forward. Third, Pollock shouldn't be and more than likely won't be starting...plus who knows whether Harry Davis is staying.

I'd actually like to see us revert back to a flat back four and have the option to be able to play a diamond and play with wingers. We seemed much more compact and difficult to break down whenever we played with a flat back four last season. Hess could do a job as DMC in a diamond with Clifton and Whitehouse in the middle and that could free up Vernam or Cook to play at the top of a four. We need two better options up top as recognised strikers than Harry Cardwell though. We've only really got one natural winger in Max Wright too, so that's another bit of recruitment that needs doing if we're going to be able to play with wingers, although I wouldn't be too opposed to seeing if Ring could do a job on the left.

Recruitment wise, I'd say we need cover at RB - perhaps this could come in the form of a versatile defender who can play at CB or on both sides of defence. We need another CB, two if Davis goes. I think we need a new starting LB so Ring can potentially be used as cover. Pound for pound CM is our strongest area by a mile and if Whitehouse is fit and good to go then him, Clifton and Hess are going to be key for us. CM cover needed, but not as urgently as a few other areas. Another winger needed as mentioned further up and then two proper strikers one of which needs to be able to hold the ball up and ideally not have a poor injury record. Extremely wishful thinking for us to get all of that, but you never know.

No room for strikers at Austerity Stags. Sneaking into the playoffs one 0-0 at a time.

Assuming Conroy's contract talks go well after he gets back from Dubai. Good to see Wellens trying to get the crux of his squad sorted early.

I've barely been keeping notice this summer, but will try and have a go:

3-5-2

GK - Scott Flinders
CB - Will Boyle
CB - Ben Tozer
CB - Charlie Raglan
RWB - Sean Long
LWB - Chris Hussey
CM - Connor Thomas
CM - Chris Clements
CM - Kevin Dawson?? (yet to sign a new deal, if he doesn't we'll need a new man)
FW - Luke Varney
FW - Alex Addai/George Lloyd (it could be either)

We need help in the centre of the park and up front. We still technically have Manny Duku to play up with Varney, but he's been told he can go. In the middle we're missing a spoiler - that became Jordan Tillson last season, but I suspect we'll only get him if Exeter let him go for nothing. A lot of our fans seem to be against him signing though (I felt he did ok personally).

We need cover for Long and Hussey - Debayo is back from a loan at Dover at LWB, but I expect him to be farmed out again before being let go. We also need some back up in defence with Matt Bower being released and Jordon Forster rejecting a new deal.

We haven’t lost anyone of note in the summer, though that’s probably a terrible turn of phrase considering the current mysterious/worrying plight of Justin Edinburgh.

GK: Dean Brill
RWB: Sam Ling
LWB: Joe Widdowson
CB: Marvin Ekpiteta
CB: Josh Coulson
CB: Dan Happe
CM: Craig Clay
CM: Jobi McAnuff (c)
AMC: James Brophy
FC: Josh Koroma
S: Macaulay Bonne

Subs:
GK: Sam Sargeant
GK: Artur Janata (scholar)
RWB: Myles Judd
LWB: Jayden Sweeney (scholar)
CB: Shadrach Ogie
CB: Jamie Turley (unsigned)
CM: Dale Gorman
CM: Brendon Shabani (scholar)
CM: Hector Kyprianou (scholar)
RW: James Dayton
AMC: Jordan Maguire-Drew
S: Matt Harrold
S: James Alabi (transfer listed)
S: Ruel Sotiriou

We might look like we’re well-set, but I have grave concerns about how a number of players (including in the 1st XI) are going to transition to league football. There is next to no experience amongst the subs, aside from Matt Harrold who can only manage 15 minute sub appearances and James Dayton who is permanently injured. We could do with strengthening all over the park, and that’s if we manage to keep hold of our best players over the summer. Gawd help us if Ekpiteta, Koroma or Bonne head to pastures new.
