It took nearly two years for GTAV to hit the PC after the console versions. You could well see more of the same here, if it happens at all.

I wonder if long term the big houses view PC gaming as being viable.

GTAV went absolutely crazy when it hit PC. Mods and shit re-invigorated it. Rockstar has made a fortune from it. I'm confused as to why they've decided to not release this for PC when it comes out. Holding back PC ports definitely seems to be a 'them' thing. There's still more money in PC gaming than console so it's an odd decision to say the least!

"Red Dead Redistribution. In 19th Century Britain, an ageing Karl Marx attempts to balance suburban North London family life with the crushing responsibility of finishing his planned 24 volume opus, Das Capital."

This is just a rumour, but if tru I am so there.

fucking epic moments in the previous game, riding back to the family to the sound of compass in particular. such a good game.

songs with lyrics should be more of a thing in gaming imo. it's rarely done but the few times i've encountered it it's helped create a wonderful moment in the game. bastion was another game that pulled it off superbly.

I always assume it's to do with piracy* when this sort of thing happens. It's so damned easy to get games for free on PC that it'll probably eat into the sales big time... give it chance for the desperate RDR fans to get RDR2 having bought it and then let all of the PC players get it from TPB and such.

*Yeah yeah. "It's cowboys, not pirates". I knew you were going there so I got there first, you witty fuck.

NO.

Fuck that moment. I've moaned about it like 50 millions times before on here, but here I go again:

For me, that moment was... start riding into Mexico, and a song comes on. "This is pretty fucking cool", thinks I. I enjoy this for about 30 seconds. The final 30 seconds of my life that don't feel as if there is a massive void inside of me.

Then 90 million fucking dog things came out and took out my horse.

Then took me out.

And I respawned with no music, in some random Mexican place.

This was my entry into Mexico on RDR. Everybody talks about how awesome it was, but that's what shit I got. Everybody always bangs on about how great that moment was. And all those people can fuckin' do one.

I'm not sure if it is that mate. I'm not sure what it is. Someone might be able to tell me otherwise, but if you look at other recent game releases; Battlefield, Gears 4, Mafia 3 - all out on PC at the same time. It seems to just be a thing Rockstar do

Can't wait. PS4 has been a bit of a disappointment so far.

exploring the west in the initial throes of the 2nd industrial revolution seems like the logical thematic/narrative route to take. Suppose that would be mid-late 19th Century, so basically completely preceding the era of the previous game, which traced the end of that era: the ushering in of American federalism as we know it today.

edit: just seen the leaked map. The major towns and settlements are connected by a rudimentary rail network, so def 1870s at the very earliest. Most probs late 19th Century, so they can bring back a recognisable face or two.

PC releasing a year or so after means people are more likely to buy both if they have a PC and a console.

I'm sorry, but that trailer has left me drooling.

How stunning does this fucker look??

That shop front shot is breathtaking, and is like looking at an old western sepia photo in glorious technicolour.

Glad the bottom left of the map contains locations from RDR, just gutted that John Marston will have no part to play.

I shed actual tears at that cut scene in RDR.

Has any info been released regarding the story?

Judging from the trailer it looks pre-RDR to me.

Irish and Seth were rumoured to be playable protagonists.

We'll see. I'm fucking hyped for this.

would have to be pre RDR, RDR was set around 1910, u can't have it later than that and still have it be a traditional western

That whole hidden last mission was sort of a metaphor for the end of industrial age (well full industrialisation with the Great War around the corner) /birth of late modernity/death of the frontier. like, that was the thematic end for the series: john/jack as criminal rather than outlaw, executioner rather than a mediating force of wild justice. Jack's actions are framed in an entirely new way as befitting the new political context.

The prequel will I imagine have a completely different contextual frame, playing up the romance/decadence and (ig)nobility of the frontiersman.

Could be great! Though looking at how houser, et al, handled similar themes in GTA v, and with the continued obsession with online multiplayer, it will probably be a fucking train wreck.

Would like an intertwining story with multiple playable characters like GTA V. It would be pretty cool to play as a lawman/sheriff and an outlaw.
