Very good summary JJ.
Can see Barnet possibly getting 7 points which means Grimsby probably need 3 points, not checked GD.
Chesterfield are gone, I know it was a big local derby but again a team on a big winless run as per Vale and Grimsby yet they have contrived to lose all 3

Interestingly, both relegation places could be sewn up by this time next week. Grimsby play an out of form Swindon and I fancy them to get at least a point there. I do reckon Barnet will beat Newport 1-0 though to keep themselves alive. Chesterfield have to win at Exeter to even give themselves the slightest chance and then a Forest Green side who'll be up for getting that 1 win to secure safety and so I can't see it happening. Chesterfield need 4 points from the next 2 minimum to even have the slightest chance of survival.

Assuming Chesterfield lose to Exeter on Tuesday, Grimsby and Forest Green wins and Morecambe avoiding defeat will see Chesterfield down this time next week. Barnet are down if they lose and Grimsby win and Forest Green avoid defeat.

My realistic view though: I think Grimsby missed a trick not sending Barnet all but down today. And it'll go to the final day between them pair, but still fancy Grimsby to edge it and stay up.

24th Chesterfield(41) - 35 points. Exeter(A), Forest Green(A), Wycombe(H), Newport(H), Barnet(A)

Yes, I know those teams over 45 points are all but safe, but until it's mathematically confirmed, we'll keep everyone involved, because in theory, all teams are still playing for points to confirm their league status. Crewe and Yeovil lose to promotion chasers in Luton and Wycombe respectively, sounded like both teams showed up well and they'll both be safe. Same goes for Port Vale, who ended any lingering doubts they might have had with a good win over Lincoln.

Morecambe keep chipping away and picking up draws, it's hard to see Chesterfield or Barnet catching them either. Same for FGR, a good win at local rivals Cheltenham, they can make the rest of the teams down near the bottom less nervy with a win next Saturday against Chesterfield. Grimsby seemingly scrapped out a draw with Barnet, not the best result, but they didn't let the bottom 2 close the gap. But with their next 3 all tricky, they'll be praying the bottom 2 can't catch them.

Both the bottom 2 are in must win territory now with the gap to safety 5 and 7 points respectively. Barnet have a chance I think, but again, they have to win all 3 of their remaining games, even one dropped result could seal their fate. Chesterfield though, they had the chances in the last few weeks and have blown them all. Today was probably their last chance, they need to win 3 of their last 5 to catch Grimsby and they aren't doing that.

Think it's between Grimsby and Barnet for 23rd. Anyone disagree?

Certainly Grimsby's run in v Barnet's leaves me still feeling Barnet could be the ones to survive.

Thought Chesterfield would get out of it, but their recent results in crucial games have been awful, anything less then a win at Exeter will mean failure to beat us will pretty much finish them off.

Barnet have to beat Newport and win at Morecambe, the game at Morecambe is massive, can Barnet win an away game? Can't see Grimsby getting more then 3 points from their games v Swindon and Notts so by winning both Barnet will probably give themselves a chance on the last day.

We need 1 more win I reckon.

Whilst we are certainly still a very poor team at the minute one thing we seem to have done better recently is tightened up a lot meaning I think our remaining 3 games all have possibilities of us getting at least something. Last away game at Wycombe they bombarded us all game yet we were still in it right to the death and very nearly got something whereas previous 2 away games we'd capitulated against Lincoln and Coventry so certainly signs of improvement there. Also Swindon seem such an up and down team that whilst I still expect us to lose there I wouldn't be that surprised to see us sneak a point, then Notts at home we have a chance as we've had 4 games at home since Jolley took over and are unbeaten with late goals in 3 of those 4 so looks like the players are finally starting to show a bit of fight.
FGR last day who knows but we have a great record against them and I think they'll be safe by then and be on their holidays.
I think we will survive.

Just.

That FGR v Chesterfield game next week is a real double edged sword for us.

Chesterfield need to be down on the final day so that we can roll them over, and FGR need to still be in danger on the final day so that they can beat Grimsby. Not looking great :sur:

Swindon almost into must win territory so let's hope they can thrash Grimsby and we can sneak a win over Newport. We all want it to go down to the wire, right?!

Another loss for Chesterfield

For everything you shouted at us when we went down and how you took the piss, may it all come home to roost

Great result for us tonight as it now forces both Chesterfield and Barnet to win every game (Barnet with a 13 goal swing). Point will pretty much end it where we are concerned with CFC goal difference now.

Feel to Chesterfield though had a decent side a few years back and a club similar sized to our own that should be doing much much better.

Good point raised on the Vale forum tonight was the pivotal moment both clubs changed managers, we both hired legendary players but ours had 600 games in the upper levels of non league as manager and theirs didnt and we’ve managed to pull ourselves out of it they haven’t. You’d say that’s a key turning point.

Hope they still get out of it but looks incredibly bleak with their form heading into the last four games.

With that defeat, Chesterfield are relegated on Saturday if they lose to Forest Green, Grimsby win at Swindon and Morecambe avoid defeat at us.

Barnet are relegated on Saturday if Grimsby win at Swindon, Forest Green avoid defeat to Chesterfield, and they lose to Newport. Will also be down with a draw if Grimsby win, Forest Green win and Morecambe avoid defeat to Crewe.

Solidarity to Chesterfield fans, it’s a rough time down there if whats beginning to look inevitable happens and I’m hoping and praying we don’t join you. Hope you bounce up again soon, need more ‘proper’ (hate the word but you all know what I mean when I say it) clubs in the league, especially when northern clubs are being replaced by soulless clubs from the Home Counties with few fans. Don’t wish this on anyone but I’m sure you’ll be back. I’m sure most of the league would rather you and Mansfield swap places btw, just to shut their annoying fans up.

Stay classy, Mansfield fans.

When you see the sustained abuse they put us under when we went down, under and owner doing to us just what happened to us - and then some on top maybe you'd have an idea.

We got dogs abuse from them, and as happened on Saturday, Mansfield fans are having their revenge.

If you don't seem that as classy given the circumstances, no offence, I couldn't give a fuck

Dont barnet and chesterfield still have to play each other which would make it impossible for both sides to win all there games.

They do so we can’t finish bottom but either or could still theoretically overtake us and put us in the bottom two. Highly unlikely but hopefully it will all be over this weekend for us mathematically anyway. Believe both could be relegated Saturday?

It would mean both of them losing, us winning and FGR at least drawing. Which is all very unlikely.

Chesterfield's tails will have been up had they managed to get at least something from the Vale, Grimsby and Morecambe games but when you can't perform in those games, it will have drained everything out of them.

Still a glimmer of hope for Barnet, but I'm inclined to think that Grimsby are safe. If not, only a couple of points needed IMO.

Newport don't lose often and Morecambe away isn't easy so although looking OK on paper I think Barnet will draw at least one if not both of them.

I'd take two wins and a draw to make it 14 points from our last seven games.
I didn't expect a point at Grimsby so getting to 44 points from where we were would be a good effort, even if in the end it's not enough thanks to earlier failures.

Mansfield fans should beware mocking Chesterfield if they go down. Certain Lincoln fans took great delight in mocking us when we were relegated but we all know what happened the very next season.

Indeed we did even though was being managed by a clown and a board with no idea what they were doing.
Thankfully changed now, same chairman but he's learnt from his mistakes.

Can't see past us and Chesterfield going down now.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Notts County complete the set and follow up their away defeats to Chesterfield and ourselves by losing at Grimsby.

Just to rub salt into the wounds, we'll go into the last game 3 points behind Forest Green and Grimsby, and have to wait for the inevitable 0-0 draw that they play out (and rightly so).
