There hasn't been a good Resident Evil since Resident Evil 4.

Love the demo. Pre-reviews are excellent and I love the new approach. I think this is going to be very, very good!

There's a lot going on that I missed the times I played it.

The best bit is the A.I is random so you don't know what or who is around the corner.

Yeah, reviews are looking very good so far.

I've never been the biggest Resi guy, really. I've still never played the first 3 (though I have the remake of the first one on my PS4 after it was on PS plus) though I did own, and love, Dino Crisis 2, which was always sort of the same thing but with dinosaurs. (as a side topic, BRING THAT BACK, YOU FUCKERS)...

Resi 4 was my first one, and even that wasn't until it released on the PS2 as I didn't have a gamecube until later in its lifespan. And yeah, I thought it was fucking incredible, of course. I also played 5 and thought that was decent, but I thought the demo of 6 was shit and heard bad things about it, so gave that a miss.

I reckon I may check 7 out... but probably not until the price drops.

Is there anything in this one tying it back to the expanded universe of the series?

Played about 2 hours so far. Very tense. Enjoying it. There is meant to be a twist somewhere which ties it back to the others.

not really, atleast it didn't feel like it on the short demo, going by the demo though, this could be a great move

I'm a couple of hours in, and loving it! Shame I'm at Pride Park tomorrow, I'd rather continue with this

Completed this last week. Must say it was excellent. Definite 9/10 game for me. Thoughts below.

The only thing I think they could have done better was the last 2 hours. I thought the boat was a good change of scene and was certainly creepy. However, the suspense wasn't quite as high at this point as you're given much more ammo. Plus the lack of enemy variety started to hurt the game too at this point. I can understand why there wouldn't be many completely different enemies given that this was a particular strain of virus but it felt like they'd copied 'Last of Us' a bit with their slight alterations on enemy types. I think even if they'd added humans at the point of going insane with the virus where they're quick and lethal, could have worked (although this would be a bit 'Last of Us' as well with their first stage monsters.

Overall though, the house area was extremely well done. I like how they slowly introduced more of the surrounding area over time. The family were incredibly well done. Jack was very scary early on in the game when you didn't quite know what was happening. Marguerette wasn't as intimidating to run into but certainly compensated with the jump scares in certain moments. And I absolutely loved the change of pace was Lucas was introduced the Saw-esque sequence. That was a fantastic addition to the game where bits of repetitiveness were just starting to creep in and then they completely flipped it for an hour or two.

The Mia/Ethan story was ok. It was a nice change up but it didn't wow me. Mia was a good character whilst Ethan was very bland. I don't think they'll appear in any future Resis. I did like how they tied it in with the series at the end and am looking forward to seeing what role Chris has to play in the DLC.

Oh and a special mention for Grandma Baker. I called it early on that she was the root of the evil although I didn't necessarily expect her to be an aged version of Eveline. I suppose I should have seen it coming when she occasionally sung just like Eveline. I liked how she popped up all over the place though. I was waiting for that one time where she was going to leap at me as I walked past.

Well in Resi. Now don't go back to being shit again. Next up please, an excellent RE2 Remake, a solid Revelations 3 and then a belting Resi 8 is not too much to ask.
