Dayts was class for us but just could not keep fit.

Always felt he had the talent to be playing higher, but as you say, he plays so few games he's practically a waste of a wage.
Agreed 100% - Will more than likely sign with us for another year, play well until December and then get injured again.

He was unlucky with his latest injury though, after some muppet from Sutton pole axed his ankle on their 3G surface.

Orient fans, what are your thoughts on James Brophy? I liked him at Swindon and was a bit disappointed we let him go.
He's an odd one - The talent and ability is there, its just his mentality which has always baffled me.

He played a key role in our run in, he has the speed and ability to beat full backs all day long and has a decent shot on him. Crossing still needs work and he is very, very one footed, he doesn't like using his right foot at all.

He played well in our FA Trophy final on Sunday, he was all over the pitch, winning the ball back and trying to make things happen - He really seemed to enjoy the occassion and playing at Wembley.

Other times though, he pulls out of tackles, misjudges passes and decides not to track back - Edinburgh has rectified the tracking back part though it seems. In our final league game at home to Braintree he was all over the place, misplacing passes, crosses and shots. The pressure really got to him.

If he could sort himself out mentally, he would probably have the confidence to play a bit higher still.

Jobi McAnuff signs a one year extension and Joe Widdowson signs a 2 year extension.

Probably the only other two players I'd have kept.

Harrold has also signed a one year extension.

Too much sentiment keeping Dayton and Harrold as already mentioned.

Nepomuceno has re-signed for another year, thought he'd be the first to turn us down tbh. Really good left winger.

Dayton was generally not good enough at League One level, with the occasional moment of "where the f did that come from?!"

Leon Legge has triggered a 1 year extension.

Happy with that. Decent enough.

Joe Romanski - 20 year old youth product CB has signed a 1 year extension. Not sure he's good enough to make it as a league footballer. Happy to see myself be proved wrong!

Yeah I liked Knoyle when you played at our place at the end of the season. We need a RB to replace Brad Halliday so I would hope we are at least trying.

I don't mean to come across arrogant or disrespectful, but I would be very disappointed if Knoyle left us and ended up at Cambridge.

You are no bigger than us. We've had one poor season and our budget is on par with yourselves. It would be a side step, not a step down.

https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk...in-signing-full-back-kyle-knoyle/?ref=mr&lp=9

My point wasn't really about the size of Cambridge per se, more about the ambition of my club. Knoyle was probably our most consistent performer last season and won the 'coveted' local rag POTY trophy and is generally popular among fans.

Wellens has spoken about how he wants to push the club on towards promotion next season and to lose your player of the season to a side that finished not that far above the relegation zone, would to many, be seen as disappointing.

I see your point but which club isn't going to come out and say they are going for promotion and trying to push their club forward? Last season I hope was a one off for us and with a good chunk of our budget freed up by players leaving and Calderwood now in charge of recruitment, I would say Cambridge and Swindon are on par.

If we manage to get your POTY, whether it be down to him living closer to London/earning more money (by a few hundred quid as quoted by Wellens) it would be a pretty good start.

Some of the comments from Swindon fans bashing Cambridge are a bit embarrassing. Swindon is no bigger than Cambridge and let's face it, we'd all prefer to live in Cambridge over Swindon :)

We have some really idiotic fans that seem to think we have a god given right to be in League 1 or the Championship, mainly I guess, due to our 'endeavors' in the top flight in the 90s. Bashing other clubs is just pointless in my eyes.

Aside from probably Bradford (due to their support and stadium size and facilities etc) and the smaller clubs like Crawley, Morecambe etc I think there are probably 12-16 clubs that are playing on a relatively even playing field.

Having never been to Cambridge, I can't really have that discussion with you on the merits of the 2 locations.

Both places are shit to drive in. Far too many fucking bikes in Cambridge.

I don't drive as we live in London but I understand the frustration about the bikes.

Have you driven over the majestic magic roundabout yet?

God yes, most confusing thing I've had to drive on other then in France where they have what seems like fucking whirlpools at some junctions/intersections.

Swindon are clearly a bigger club than Cambridge but that holds little weight in our current standing. We're currently a bang average league 2 side with a modest budget and a manager who seems to enjoy playing hardball so it's no suprise players may look elsewhere if there's a better deal on the table.

Surely bikes are in keeping with your club’s green ethos and should meet with your approval:bg:? A while since have been there, but recall Cambridge having an awful one way system.

Whatever criteria you use that is undoubtedly true. Moving from a club that had a chance - albeit slim - of making the PO to one that spent the season nervously looking over its shoulder to the relegation spots is a step down in my eyes.

We can all play the ‘clean slate’ game, but facts are facts.

Manny Oyeleke signed on for two more years. Very important to get him signed up. Bit stop-start last year but when he played and when he didn’t the difference was massive.

2 wins in 14 without him! Lost one game with him before Boxing Day.

Signing of the summer for me. We've kept the spine in place, now to add a few better options going forward.

Really positive interview with Manny too. Comes across as a genuine, ambitious guy and pleasing to hear his comments about Askey and his style of training and play. I'm hopeful that players who 'could not' shine last season because of the way we set out to play will see huge improvements under Askey.

Our squad currently is this:
Goalkeepers
Mike Cooper

Defenders
Tafari Moore
Joe Riley
Ashley Smith-Brown
Gary Sawyer
Scott Wootton
Niall Canavan

Midfielders
Antoni Sarcevic
Conor Grant
Tom Purrington

Attackers
Freddie Ladapo
Ryan Taylor
Calum Dyson

Ideally I'd like to see Tafari Moore, Scott Wootton and Calum Dyson moved on. They played about 5 games combined last season.

Ryan Lowe has a lot of work to do in the transfer market clearly. Ladapo did hit 20 goals last season, and Sarcevic is considered one of our best players, but it's currently way off the mark.
