After our 6-0 thumping at home against Yeovil (possibly the worst performance by a Newport County team I have ever witnessed (and that's going it some), I'd be interested in hearing about what the worst performance and, or heaviest defeat you've ever witnessed when following your team? It might cheer me up a bit.

7-0 at Bolton, 7-2 at Everton, 7-0 at Newcastle.

Saturdays performance against Bury ranks as one of the worst displays I can remember - even the Flitcroft crap from last season.

Probably loads more but at my age the old memories are fading.

Took my girlfriend to Chesterfield on a Tuesday night a few years ago and we lost 0-6 - she enjoyed it though as there was lots of goals! Same season I saw us lose 0-6 at MK Dons too, still a miracle we managed to stay up that year.

Saw us lose 7-1 at home to Brentford in the early 80's, painful and still remember it as it coincided with a demo asking for the manager to be sacked at full time on the pitch in front of the Directors box, which didnt happy much at sleepy Exeter in those days

I was always wise enough to avoid Swindon away so the worst I saw was 6-0 away at Fulham in the Carling cup. We were league two and hardly conceded a goal up until December excluding this game!

We half expected them to field a weakend side after a good start to their Premier League season but we were absolutely battered, in fairness they just turned up rather than us being poor and were at it and didn’t give us a sniff, Dempsey, Their new signing Dembele etc.

Couldn’t fault us on the night but it was a pasting.

Seems to be a glut of 6-0's so far this season.

I think the biggest drubbing I've witnessed us in was in the FA cup when we lost 6-1 at Tranmere (if memory serves). Wasn't such a terrible thing though really as that was when Tranmere were in the first division and we were just focused on not get relegated from the third and I wouldn't say it was the worst performance.

6-1 defeat away at Stafford Rangers in Southern League back in 1996. Burton Albion and Cheltenham were in same league. League was won by Rushden.

Vale 6-0 down at Burnley by half time. Managing to only concede 1 more in the second half. Saw us 5-0 down at ht at Southend only to win the 2nd half 1-0.Lost 7-1at Huddersfield, as their fans ran across the pitch towards us at the end, singing come & have a go if you think you've scored enough. Lost 6-2 at Wrexham with our goalie, John Connaughton, asking fans to keep the ball as long as we could when it came onto the terraces. 6-2 at Barnsley but at least managed to p*ss Parkinson off in the stands.

Seen loads of hammerings down the years tbh. Can remember a few, 5-0 at Aldershot and Barnet, 5-1 at Hereford, 5-1 at home to Gravesend, 5-2 at Welling, 6-1 at home to Boston, 6-1 at Luton and 7-1 at home to Hereford.

Biggest one was 7-0 at Cambridge in the 09-10 season. 1-0 at ht, lost a key defender to injury, had our keeper sent off and conceded 5 quick fire goals. They eased off at 6-0 otherwise it would have been double figures.

We'd only managed 1 point from our first 7 games, so things didn't look too bright at the time especially as we'd had a player caretaker manager up till that point. That result pushed the board into finally making an appointment. Enter Dave Hockaday. :ffs:

8-2 away at Luton on the opening day of last season. By far the worst defeat i've seen us suffer.

The only bad one I've witness was the 6-1 at home to Coventry last season. 4-0 at h/t, we pulled it back to 4-1 and were actually on top for a bit, before they scored a 5th to kill us off.

A few years ago I listened to the 8-1 drubbing we got from Crewe. That was a hard listen but I saw it through to the end.

The most recent one for us was losing 6-1 at home to Chesterfield in the 08/09 season. Randomly we actually went up that season in 2nd place!

Also 5 1 at home to plymouth david frio scored 2 25 yarders that flew into the top corner of the net.

Probably the only time I’ve clapped an opposing player off that. Oddly we only lost twice all season at home that 5-1 and 5-2 against Hartlepool!

A lot. Most embarrassing that I can remember are the 5-0 at Braintree and 4-0 at Halifax. 5-0 at Crewe 18 months ago was bad.

In terms of numbers, it’s got to be the 8-1 vs Hartlepool.

I can remember getting smashed 7-1 at Sheffield Wednesday in the cup but still celebrating our goal (at 5-0 down) like we’d just won promotion.

I think the most I’ve seen us lose is 5-0 at Rotherham. New Year’s Day, hungover, freezing and sat in that shit away end at the Don Valley watching your team get pasted.

8-1 last season in the FA cup live on TV was a shocker, so bad I let it wash over me and concentrated on the league.
5-0 last game of the season a couple of years ago to Carlisle was a disgrace, the team, manager, chairman and fans all wanted it over with and we played like it.
6-0 to Villa years ago in the league, Ipswich regularly used to tonk us when we were a Championship standard team.
5-1 away to Rushden still gets Notts fans gnashing teeth.
There's been lots of fours and fives, one of each already this season a few sixes and an eight, losing to Salford in the Cup still worse than all of them though and that was just two.

Best goal of the 8 that was. I wasn't at the Hartlepool 8-1, which was a Friday night match. Jeff Stelling was just a little bit annoyed on Soccer Saturday the next day, that he couldn't report the goals going in.

One that sticks in my mind though was a 6-0 hammering at Luton in the early 80's. Luton had a great side back then and won promotion to the 1st Division that year. We weren't that bad really, it was just that Luton were superb. To make it worse it pissed down all game and we all got soaked. A bloke called Steve White scored 4 of their goals that day and I can still recall the headline in The Sports Telegraph that night "WHITE HOT"

The Braintree 5-0 I missed as I was having my head carved open that day and I thought I was still under the aneasthetic when I first heard the result the following morning.

3-0 down inside 20 minutes and 4-0 down at HT and against a side grossly out of form. I don't think they won again that season and went into the game 5 games withour a win. That tosser Flitcroft should have been sacked there and then. An absolute joke of a football manager.

I missed Luton last season (7-0) and Sunderland in the league cup 15 years ago (same score). I think my worst was a 6-2 home defeat against Portsmouth in about 2015. Also saw us lose 5-1 at home to Mansfield in the Conference and a mind blowing 6-3 AET against Alfreton in the FA Trophy when they were a Conference North side. I missed Histon away (5-0) in the Trophy fortunately.

Sometimes hammering a are not reflected in the scoreline.

First home game in the conference, Hereford came and wiped the floor with us but they couldn't score. All the possession, all the shots, everything but just one goal to show for it. We get a free kick in the 90th minute, deflection off the wall to make it 1-1. We were hammered in that game and got away with it.

More normal hammering. First season in the football league, going well, near the top and challenging for promotion. Travel up to Morecambe, who were doing ok near the middle of the table but no great shakes. Our team must have been on the piss the night before because they just didn't turn up. Lost 6-0 and to be honest it could have been more, lots more. Thankfully the goals have been consigned to a dark recess of my brain, where they can stay, but it still makes me shudder.

We actually went up in third place that season, behind De Canio's Swindon and Crewe so a great season with just the one horror show to keep me awake.

Two that stand out for me in my time following Tranmere.

Plymouth 6-0 Tranmere 2003/04 to be fair Plymouth ran riot that season and won league one with ease smashing everyone. If memory serves me right they bettered that result a game or two later by beating Chesterfield 7-0.

Hull 6-1 Tranmere 2004/05. A top of the table clash involving two promotion hopefuls. Luton were top but it was a fight between hull and us for 2nd and a win would of seen us leapfrog them. Score line slightly skewed by events though. They injured both our first choice and backup goalkeeper in the first half. We had a midfielder in goal after halftime with score line only 1-0.
