So what the hell is going to happen?

According to Rochdale fans apparently Spotland is out of use for the forseeable future, they have a home replay next Tuesday, a home match on 10th February against Fleetwood, home again on 17th against Oldham (FA Cup or not), all 3 almost certain to be called off.

Play at a neutral venue? Play teams twice away? Forfeit games? Play 3 games a week in April?

Apparently Rochdale wanted to play both our fixtures at the DW but it was turned down for financial reasons.

Rugby season starts soon too. Good luck to any team that still has to go there.

I know Newports pitch was a nightmare the last few years but at least they played the away games at the beginning of the season while it was being sorted.

Didnt Rochdale have a new pitch relayed last year (or in recent years)? Why is theirs so bad? Surely if it continues they will be forced to forfeit games, or they will just play saturday - tuesday most of the season. Either way surely makes them near certainties to go down.

We've become tinpot and we're going down. This season is a shocker.

We had a new pitch last year but its just shite. A few years ago we had a fantastic pitch but the groundsman got a job abroad and left. Every since it's just been chopping up and becoming a mud bath.

A league 1 club wanting to switch venues and play games elsewhere is really pathetic. It's not as if there have been floods or anything recently.

Rubbish.

We did try to reverse the fixtures, with the first game being played at Wigan instead of on our swamp. Wigan would have kept the gate monies from this, whilst we would hopefully have been able to play the late Feb fixture at home, and for that one, we would have kept the income.

Where on earth do you dream up such claptrap that we wanted the money from your home game?

And yes... our pitch is now a major cock up. It's a combination of us installing a soil based pitch last Feb when the old one was knackered, plus a groundsman who isn't the best. Bad news for our Directors who made the wrong call.

Can’t be that bad, we play on a potato field every year any time after October.

Our pitch this year is a disgrace. Never seen a pitch cut up like it does, all the season after we famously sacked our groundsman...:dk:

In all seriousness how bad is it? Has there been official talk of moving venues or just fan rumour?

You have 2 games to play on it before our fixture and the weather ain't meant to be great. Can't forsee a classic if it does go ahead

Is that today?

They seem to be confident that their cup game will go ahead tonight.

I saw those pictures on Facebook yesterday so it can't be today, think it was over the weekend.

That win should help enormously financially so maybe they can get a new one now.

Didn't you win as well ?

Then Chelsea wanted to replay the match..

Nah, they beat us 4-1.

I seem to recall some controversy about it though. Not sure we were aware of the state of the pitch until we arrived and the Chelsea players all had appropriate boots whereas we didn’t. I believe we wanted the game replayed.

Something along those lines anyway, can’t really remember though. Just remember Curbs being unhappy at the time.

How did the pitch play last night? On the pictures above it looked like Catford dog track, but looks could be deceiving.

Played a lot better than it looks on photos and actually looked better in person too than on pictures. Shocking that our groundsman was allowed to let the pitch get into this state though in the first place.

That is good to hear (the bit about it playing better, not your grounds man). What was the bounce like, did it bobble? Did it cut up? Do you think all your home games will be on, and do you have a plan B.

Bounced fine last night, however I suspect if it rained on it, that it may become more of an issue, as it remained dry last night. Cut up very slightly in some areas but I wouldn’t say it had that much impact on the match last night. Unsure really, as I said not sure how well it would react to rainfall so who knows. Also unsure of a plan B.

The Pitch played much much better than it looked. Had it played as it looked, there would have been no game. I agree that either heavy rain or hard frost from now on will make staging games almost impossible.

Contrary to what Dale4ever says, there are other reasons why the pitch has been as bad as it is, and it isn't all the groundsman's fault, as you can only work with what you are given .However, he has clearly not done a good job despite being dealt a bad hand.

I'm sure I saw our previous groundsman on the pitch at half time last night.
