Is this the proposed takeover by an Australian consortium that was mooted earlier this year...? I haven't heard anything about that since and guessed it must have fallen through.

I didn't fancy Charlton becoming "Australia's Football Club."

When I lived in London, they were "Greenwich's Football Club." That would do me just fine.

I can't believe you can sit there and watch the club you claim to support be stripped of everything valuable while insulting the fans (just like the owner and CEO funnily enough) that are trying to save the club so the Charlton Athletic that exits today still exists further down the line. Truly astonishing.

Valuable? We don't have anything that is.

You mean the "fans" who go around attacking us who don't think the same as them?

Not anymore no, that's the point!

I have no doubt in my mind that the sensible protesters don't do that unless provoked. Don't tar them all with the same brush. They want what is best for the club and are willing to go to great lengths to try to achieve that. You're lucky that you have a large group of fans willing to face potentially severe punishment in order to get other football fans and the football authorities to notice; our fanbase as a whole aren't willing to do most of the things the CARD group have done and we've fallen further than you, albeit in a longer time period.

The only way I could understand your way of thinking is if you believe any future owners would be worse than the current one.

Best of luck with the change of ownership. Hopefully that's one less club being fucked by dodgy owners.

Let's hope so, won't get too carried away until it's finalised but does sound close.

That's the one.

Here's a couple of links. The second one in particular certainly makes me feel slightly more at ease about it.

http://www.votvonline.com/

Charlton look set to celebrate December’s 25th anniversary of the historic return to The Valley in style - by announcing a takeover and the end of Belgian businessman Roland Duchatelet’s three-year, ten-month ownership of the Addicks in a matter of days, writes Rick Everitt.

Voice of The Valley has been told by multiple independent and well-placed sources that due diligence on a potential sale has been taking place – and today that a deal could even go through before the end of the next week.

Frontrunners to take over the club remain the Australian Football Consortium whose interest was first disclosed by Mail Online back in April, with VOTV exclusively revealing the involvement of Australian businessman Andrew Muir - former owner of the Good Guys retail chain - in VOTV136, published on August 5th.

As reported then we understand that the deal would now include the acquisition of Charlton Athletic Holdings Limited, the entity that owns The Valley and Sparrows Lane, as well the football club itself. Suggestions to the contrary were a source of concern to some fans following the initial report.

Details remain sketchy and the timeline changeable, but the deal has been brokered by the Everton director Keith Harris. His involvement was first reported at the beginning of April in VOTV135, which headlined on the club being up for sale and was published prior to the Mail’s revelations.

We also understand that former chairman and current director Richard Murray has been keen to play a role in the new administration.

http://www.australianfc.com.au/

The Australian Football Consortium has been established to acquire an underperforming English football team with a view to elevating the club back to the Premier League.

In 2016 AFC commissioned Deloitte’s Football Business Group in Manchester to conduct a feasibility study on our project and identify clubs that fit our criteria.

Our goal is quite simple: To rebuild the club that we acquire and over time, attempt to elevate it to the Premier League. Of this we are resolute. Winning is important to us. However, winning only occurs when a sporting organisation has the best people, processes and governance in place. As a result, AFC intend to incorporate the very best local, Australian and global sports leadership, psychology, coaching, data analytics, management and science to ensure that we leave no stone unturned in our quest to achieve our goal. It is AFC’s intention to inject significant funds to ensure that this occurs.

A critical component of AFC’s strategy will be to invest heavily into the training facility so that the club can attract and develop local talent and provide them with the opportunity to represent their club at a senior level.

It is also important to note that AFC is keenly aware and understands the importance of the fans in English football. We are committed to our responsibility to honour and respect the history and tradition of the club and ensure that the fans are respected as key stakeholders in the process.

AFC’s expert advisory team includes some of the most respected names in Australian sport. These experts have committed their time, free of charge, because they believe wholeheartedly in the validity of the project.

We believe that this is a good news story for Australia, the UK and all football lovers because we know that with the right ownership and leadership, it is possible to restore a winning culture to a club for the benefit of the fans, the local community and to help grow support for the club further afield.

Strong football relationships already exist between Australia and the UK and we believe this well-constructed project will only strengthen these over time.

We remain hopeful of being able to conclude a deal in due course but we will not be making any statements or comments until a deal is completed.

You only sold Lookman in January for what? Around £10Mil, where's that money gone then? The next prospect that comes along will be sold and the money pocketed if they stay in charge, can't believe any fan who would be happy with that going on at their club.

Good luck to the fans who want shut of the foreign parasites, far to many in the FL at the moment.

'Kent's Premier Team' too. Seems they have a history of whoring themselves about

Thank you Bobbin for clarifying that for me. I would be interested to read your feelings on the matter. You seem like a chap with his finger on the pulse.

PuB... an unnecessary comment I feel which doesn't contribute in any way to the discussion. It isn't big and it isn't clever.

To Willsden Bantam, I'm afraid it is the case that Charlton have long been a "selling" club. Go all the way back to letting Billy Bonds go to West Ham for tuppence and look at the list of names which includes the likes of Paul Walsh, Paul Elliott, Robert Lee, Scott Parker, Lee Bowyer, Jonjo Shelvey, Jermaine Defoe.......... I could go on but I think you get my drift........ it has long been a bone of contention with Charlton fans that whenever we bring through the kind of players which would serve us well, they have to be sold to make ends meet.

I too would love to see 'addicks back in the hands of British ownership, preferably one that has the genuine interests of the club at heart, rather than having an ulterior agenda. We're not somebody else's nursery.

But whilst we would like to be able to look to the long term future, at the precise moment in time, the priority is to rid ourselves of the pernicious ownership of Duchatelet and his repulsive Chief Executive, Meire. If that can be achieved, then as long as what replaces them isn't worse (how could it be, some may ask) then it would at least be a step in the right direction.

At £20 million quid for lock, stock and barrel, I'm only a lottery win away from becoming the owner myself.

Cautiously optimistic is probably the best way to describe the way I feel about it.

It's the old adage of be careful what you wish for but I don't see how any new prospective owners can be worse than the current lot.

Th current regime took over a club off the back off a 9th place finish in the Championship with a squad full of proper players, a good manager and a fan base who had never been happier with their Charlton. The spirit and friendships in that side is among the very best I have ever seen.
They came in, almost immediately got rid of Powell, sold Dale Stephens and Yann Kermorgant deeming them 'not good enough' and continued to decimate the squad, spirit and good feeling around the club. Unforgivable. With a bit of investment in the playing squad, we could have easily have been competing at the top end of the Championship or even in the PL by now as everything else was in place. Instead we end up relegated in what I see as one of the most avoidable relegations ever, all down to their continuous mismanagement and appalling decisions.

I would rather be relegated to L2 with owners who have the club's interests at heart even if it is ultimately for their own gain rather than the consistently dishonest Belgians who only have their own interests at heart at the expense of Charlton's.

If and when the Aussies take over, they're already off to a good start. Fans will be right behind them for getting rid of Roland and Katrien. I'd expect there to be a very healthy crowd for their first game at The Valley to show them just how big the potential of this football club is.

One final thing, the fact that The Valley and Sparrows Lane is included in the sale is massive.

In short, I can't wait to see th back of the old deluded fool and his moronic disciples.

It's clear that you have reservations, Lamby, but I can see where Bobbin is coming from.

I too am uneasy about our club being used as a nursery / development scheme for Australian players. It's certainly not what we want, but I have to say that on the face of it, it appears right now to be preferable to what we have. And nobody else seems to be riding to the rescue right now.

Bobbin yearns for the good times again. I think we'd all love some of that. I'd love to be able to wind the clock back 15 years to where we were then. And if wishes were horses, the Devil would ride.

Who knows..... if this sale goes through and it all transpires positively, then Charlton Athletic might actually gain something out of it. We can but hope.

The only thing we can say for certain, is that if these Aussies are coming here thinking they're in for an easy ride and they can clean up at the club's expense, they should brush up on the history.

The fans of this club don't roll over for anybody.

Now I know you're definitely on a wind-up.

Also, I've never blamed Karl or any other manager for that matter. Everything falls firmly at the feet of Roland and Katrien.

In fact, backed by proper owners and not having to work with one hand tied behind his back, I have every confidence in Robinson succeeding here. I've actually praised what he's managed to achieve this season in the halfway stage thread.

Can't stand Charlton Life and I've seen a few things on Twitter.

Can't believe I'm actually agreeing with you but anyone wanting Robinson gone is an imbecile. Trying to work under these owners is hard enough as it is and with 17 injuries (latest figures announced this morning) I'm not sure what people expect Robinson or any other manager to do.

We're appointing a new Chief Operating Office in the new year. I just can't believe our club board would be so stupid, but I'm terrified they might be.

Every other 91 league club has their fingers crossed.

There was some speculation a couple of months ago that the FA were considering offering her a position.

Now, THERE's an organisation which is stupid enough to give her a job. The thing is, if she got a job with the FA she wouldn't stand out at all. She'd simply be no more or less idiotic than the rest of them.

She'd fit in perfectly.

The chair of the DT board posted the following on Facebook yesterday in response to someone posting that Newshopper article. "A very late entrant for the most amusing rumour of the year award!"
