I thought I would get this one started early.

This fixture is the thirteenth of the league season and falls one day before the thirteenth of the month, and sees us face our bogey team of recent years. Add in Macclesfield's winless start to the season, and I am already feeling nervous.

More logically, we are playing as well as we have all season, Macclesfield are not very good and Norwood is available again, so it should be a comfortable victory. A win would take us to the heady heights of fourth position, which would be a fitting way to herald the return of Friday night football to Prenton Park. It should be a decent crowd and a good atmosphere.

Danny Whitaker will morph into Luka Modric or Kevin de Bruyne as he usually does against us and we’ll get beat.

Looking forward to not going to this one. We are going to get very beaten.

But it seems like a good time to enjoy a bit of an MTFC nostalgia trip and reflect on some of Tranmere's most humiliating defeats against the mighty Silkmen. Like this smash and grab at Prenton Park back in 2016....

Or this thumping win in 2017...

Or this famous win on our road to Wembley...

And best of all was this Durrell masterclass that sent us on our way to the title last season....
Btw if we win on Friday i'm changing my avatar to a photo of Mitch Hancox :woot:

Wouldn't say macc are a bogey team for us. Out of the 6 league games contested in the conference, we won 2 and drew 1. Hardly that bad a record. Swindon are what you call a bogey team, they've beaten us pretty much every time they've played us in the last decade. And there's been plenty of encounters. We might have got a hard fought draw in there at some point but that's about it.

True, but it is more the magnitude of the games we lost against Macclesfield: the Trophy semi-final, the 4-2 defeat in 2016-17 which knocked us off the top of the National League never to return, and then the 4-1 defeat last season which ended our title hopes.

Even in the games where we picked up points, we did not play well for whatever reason.

I think you'd gone top by winning against us that season as well tbf so it wasn't all bad.

Anyway no doubt you'll improve your record on Friday.

It was the games in hand that you had that meant it pretty much ended our title hopes. There was no realistic way back after that.

I'm with the others above - we never seem to play well against Macc, so I fully expect them to end their winless run!

Throw in that Mark Yates has just been sacked and instead of bossing it from on the pitch, Whitaker will probably just boss if from the dugout instead.

Honestly no excuses if we fail to beat them again. The ref is guaranteed to be terrible so players will have to expect that.

Norwood has had a week and a half off and will be desperate to get into double figures in goals, to activate a goal bonus clause.

Apparently Macc also equal Derby's record of 36 league games without a victory if they fail to win.

Quite a few bad omens being racked up ahead of this one.....

Normally this would just be another game against a team in poor form which I would expect us to win and would not get too worked up about it but after the behavior of certain Mac players, one in particular who have now departed, and some of their fans, including that foul creature who posted that disgraceful tweet about dead children (I bet he doesn`t show his face on Friday) at the end of last season I, and i know many other Rovers fans, hope we absolutely bury them.

“Beat them so heavily they folded”

9-0 like Solihull a couple years ago might make it interesting? Their players who are never paid on time might pack in.

I'd like to say all clubs have fans like that. But I really don't think I've ever seen any as special as some of those anywhere but Macc.

Funny one this before the antics of april most rovers supporters attitude would have been i hope we win but hope macc get out of trouble but since coach gate and the mk dons reserve foul mouthed abuse of our club most rovers supporters hope we t wat them and they go down with a record low points tally .

Its not often a football club can learn off fgr but this is certainly a case when fgr beat us at wembley they were really gracious about it unlike macc who seemed to decend into a state of celebrating tranmere not winning the league rather then celebrating the unarguably greatest achievement in english footy last season in them winning the national league .

Despite the scorelines we were the better team in both games last season and mellons team talk is already prepared on you tube thanks to the macc squad cheers guys xx maccs best player durrell is out , he gotba standing ovation from the tranmere supporters for his performance against us at pp last season.

Tranmere 2-0 macc, its about time we beat them

We don't have a traditional rivalry with Mac, but as Mark has covered, the fanbase is very much up for this one. Doubt how many will turn up, giving the weather plus England on the box. Cue a 1-0 smash and grab in front of Mac's 200 away fans.

Bit of a cock up on the clubs part choosing to play on the same Friday night as England. Unless the England fixtures came out after Tranmere’s.
Expect the Macc town players to be in for a lot of stick tomorrow night. Shouldn’t be any animosity towards the Macc fans as I thought the vast majority were more than gracious in victory at Prenton last season.
Wish Macc well after tomorrow’s game. Pity more of the townsfolk don’t get behind them more often or they’ll always find themselves in a precarious position.

Yeah, course you were.

It's funny how Mitch's ripping of Tranmere has really hurt you lot. It's as though it's giving you an excuse to hate losing the league to us publically. And has overshadowed your own amazing achievement of beating Borehamwood in a non league play off final.

I couldn't care less really who we beat to the title, all in all it was fairly easy in the end with a ten point gap. I like Prenton Park as a ground, anywhere that's got Beavertown in the away end will always get a thumbs up. Nowt against Tranmere fans or Tranmere as a club either, they obviously know their football and hats off to them for the standing ovation they gave Elliott Durrell last season. We've had some really good competitive games in recent years, I think there's a very small rivalry grown from that just from how competitive we've been with each other recently.

I'm not bothering Friday night though!

One daft footballer and a knob head on twitter ignites the biggest rivalry the North West has ever seen.

Mint.

Of course it was going to hurt, second year in a row of missing out on the title and finishing second is devastating enough, considering our lack of promotions for the previous 26 seasons. I and many others thought that was it, we wouldn't go up and we were doomed to a decade of conference football. But the bad grace the Mac team showed was unnecessary, and I don't think there's any shame in admitting it more than touched a nerve with many.

Never realised folks on the wirral were so sensitive.
Don't get me wrong, Mitch was a plank, but come on.

He wasn't the only one at it, was he? There was a video of the team coach and they were all at it. There are videos of your fans at it.

Instead of being magnanimous, your side goaded us and called us wankers... it was the most unsportsmanlike victory I think I've seen. And yet you seem to expect us to turn the other cheek...
