Would seem like a strange move for Cox. Blank cheque book at Barrow or Hartlepool who seem to be in a bit of a mess.

I'd hate to have Cox as manager. Awful hoofball.
We've allegedly been watching Pools play football for the past 5 years and we've been on a slippery slope ever since, I'd take hoofball and some thuggery if it gets us back in the league.

Only does with Cox if he's allowed a squad of 40 and a blank cheque book.

Never really any doubt, was there?
He'll be on a full-time, £1,000 p/w contract for two years. Compensation is usually that paid up in full, isn't it?

There's always Gary Brabin ;)

Brabin can't manage a club to promotion, but if relegation is a real threat he'd probably keep.you up.

Is Steve Burr still unemployed? Best manager in non league ™

Our CEO was at the supporters trust meeting tonight and reckoned they were negotiating with a manager tonight with the hope of announcing them (whoever it is) tomorrow, that TNS manager Harrison is now odds on fav :dk:

He has been touted for gateshead in the past too whether it's with him been local or he actually had interest in the job who knows

He gets rumoured whenever our job comes up as TNS are just down the road. As the Welsh Premier League is so weak and TNS so well funded it's hard to tell how good he is. His record with them is pretty impressive but they'd probably win the league without a manager. Being a Gateshead lad maybe the move back to the NE is appealing, it seems like he's been trying to get into the English system for a while.

His hair is appalling.

Can't say I'd be buzzing about appointing someone from the Welsh league, instant red flag with the bloke like, who rocks curtains in 2017?

You're absolutely right about all of those things, especially his hair. TNS are probably National League North level (although they ludicrously claim that they are of League 1 standard) and they're playing in a league where the other clubs are Northern Premier League standard at best.

They've still got Simon Spender in their team, who was a weak link for us in the conference.

Upon reading this TNS will probably bring out a Twitter poll asking if they are a bigger club than Hartlepool

Some posters on RP regularly call for us to sign Spender up again :ffs:

There is also the question about how much of Harrison's success is down to Carl Darlington who has just moved to us (whilst continuing with the Welsh FA)

Craig Harrison confirmed as new Pools manager.
Journos are running with it but nothing official yet.

Just need to get his Barnet sorted out and we'll be laughing, no fella from the north east should be flopping around like that..

No genuine thoughts on his appointment, just gonna be a case of suck it and see.

Applied for ours a couple of times and been discounted, seems he regularly applies for vacant Conference managerial posts a bit like Brabin. No one has risked taking a punt on him until now, so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on now one has eventually taken the risk.

Winning the Welsh League by more than 20 points gets wearying after a while even if it is livened up by Champions League qualifying jaunts.

Interesting appointment, huge risk though. The Welsh League is quite a poor standard having seen a fair few games (certainly poorer than Conference Nat, maybe even North/South IMO). Granted he won a bit with TNS but that's expected.

Suppose the main thing is if he knows what is successful in the National League, or if he drags in a few from the Welsh League etc. which I fear could backfire.

Everyone knows that Carl Darlington is the best part-time coach in world football, but he also must have respected Harrison's ability to have worked with him for so long. This suggests to me that Harrison is alright.

He certainly deserves this chance in a bigger league.

God knows what's going to happen with Harrison.

On the one hand, I'm sick of us always appointing ex-Borer players as boss, it fact it really pisses me off - "knows the area" they say etc etc, Middlesbrough is in a sodding different county to start with and it's a shittier than a shitty shithole. Yes okay, it's 16 miles away and I suppose you could say it's vaguely in the area but for me it's bloody well not and I never go there. What's the obsession with appointing them? And they always flunk.

I'm also not happy we haven't gone for someone who knows the league. I wouldn't have minded Paul Cox, you say on here his football is shite, it might be, his sides are physical. Fuck me, when was the last time we had a physical side bullying sides off the park? I don't recall us EVER having one in more than 20 years watching us. I'd love one like that just for difference (as long as it got results).

I also can't stand his hair, he looks creepy. We had a go at Dave Jones for being scruffy in interviews (Hartlepool is trendier than Milan) and eating sausage rolls but christ, he looks like a crossover of an Eton school boy and a nonce (must be the Boro connection). I'm not going to slander him as I'm sure he's a decent fella but get rid of those curtains for god's sake man. Maybe that's how you pull the lasses in Wales?

I'm also slightly concerned that he's applied for virtually every Conference job going and never got one.

On the plus side he knows how to win and seems very focused and driven, okay his budget (as per non league knowing all the ins and outs) was approximately 4172 times bigger than his nearest rival there, but he has a winner's mentality, just not the hair. We haven't had anyone with any idea of winning at this football club for about 7 years so that'd make a change.

Good luck to him, he's definitely going to need it.

Can Harrison afford the paycut to go to Hartlepool though...

It's okay, he knows the area and understands the passion of the fans. That's the only ingredient you need to be a football manager.

Anyway, who says he's taking a pay cut? That'd just show how far down we've slipped if we're paying less than TNS.
