OK we got a point in the derby and pissed 'them' off no end, but we were very negative. Sam has the best squad of club players he has probably ever managed; he needs to use them! We have Bolasie, Barkley and Coleman back soon and I hope our play will improve.

Did the Everton owners not know what they were signing up to when they appointed Allardyce..?

His attitude has always run along the lines of "The game is won by the team that concedes the fewest goals."

There was a TV advertisement around a couple of years ago where some players are playing keepy-uppy until Peter Kaye comes in and boots the ball out of the park muttering "ave it". Somebody I was working with at the time said that's the sort of player Sam Allardyce used to be. No frills, no finesse, just belt the bloody thing as hard as you can.

Everton fans might need to get used to a rather pragmatic type of game, methinks.

As I said in my opening post this is probably the largest and best squad Allardyce has had, let's have some variety.

You appear to have misspelt shit.

And if you didn't want negative football, you appointed the wrong manager. He battles hard and keeps teams up, he doesn't challenge for honours or high league positions.

Tbf to Sam he is only just in the door, he clearly went overly defensive as a caution as he wasn't wanting them pummelled in his first derby and he's not had that much time for anything else. He got what he wanted and now we'll see if he can get them to be more expansive.

Good results for him so far but fuck me it's boring. Against us they restricted us to zero clear cut chances, despite some good general play (which ultimately meant fuck all), they did very little themselves but were effective and won comfortably in the end. Basically, we got Big Sam'd.

Short term it can work due to the mess they were in, but only til the summer I reckon. Goodison was an absolute morgue last week.

2004/05 Bolton > Everton

Jussi Jaaskelainen, Julio Cesar, Fernando Hierro, Tal Ben Haim, Vincent Candela, Ivan Campo, Radhi Jaidi, Bruno N'Gotty, Ricardo Gardner, Kevin Nolan, Gary Speed, Stellios Giannakopolous, El Hadji Diouf, Henrik Pedersen, Kevin Davies and Jay-Jay Okocha.

The squad he had at Newcastle was better too imo

There is a reason Big Sam got about 2% of the vote from Everton fans on their forum polls - same for Sean Dyche.

I remember they weren't that keen on David Moyes as he had a negative mind set despite being there for years doing a fairly solid job.

For a season or so Martinez was the man till he got found out failing to organise a defence.

Mind you with any manager they might have been pretty negative/on the back foot against Liverpool.

Even Marco Silva who they wanted...

A very fair minded comment and in the case of most newly appointed managers I'd be inclined to agree. But Sam Allardyce's record goes before him. For the sake of the Everton fans, I'd be delighted to be proved wrong. Time will tell.

Its only a short term appointment anyway, he'll stabilise them this season and they'll bring in Silva or someone in the summer. As for the quality of football if he continues to play defensively, when have Everton fans ever been bothered about the way their team plays. They've never been bothered with all that and are happy to dig out results as long as their side gives it their all. They'll put up with Allardyce.

Well as I say he only got about 2% of the vote in fan polls which for a solid experienced Premier league manager isn't saying much!

I think they still have certain expectations and standards...

Certainly seemed like they wanted a high profile manager or even David " the local lad" Unsworth ahead of Big Sam or Dyche.

He may or may not keep them up, but they've certainly got the most boring way of playing football to look forward to.

His style of football really ain't that bad, the only eye bleeding boring football I can recall is his first year in the PL with West Ham and his stint with an awful Sunderland side. Bolton were far from boring, people just remember Kevin Davies and Kevin Nolan. Blackburn weren't boring neither, nor Palace last season.

The constant berating of Allardyce and other manages like Pulis is unjust. People seem to think that just because these managers set up an organised unit defensively that it suddenly kills any intent to win games, which is quite frankly a load of bollocks, and football snobbery at its best. These managers have never had the luxury of having a De Bruyne, Coutinho, Sanchez, Erikson etc. to be a difference maker in most games, minimising opposition opportunities is their best way of winning. They could try and play every side off the park and get spanked by superior opposition 4-0 most games and get sacked, like Martinez, Sherwood, or currently, Bilic, who lost his match winner in Payet and has plummeted.

Everton ain't going to be Man City, or Liverpool, but they ain't going to be Wigan or Sunderland either. They have a ceiling and they will stay at the top of their ceiling whilst Allardyce is in charge.

It's been less than two weeks mate, not even Sacchi could impose a new philosophy in that time. His priority is to stabilise the shit show he was left with before actually stamping his mark on the team. It probably won't be very adventurous, but it will be better than what we witnessed yesterday. As people have pointed out, he's had some decent sides to watch. He's a cut above Pulis in terms of watch ability and he should be able to produce some nice football with your midfielders. Just need a striker in January and you'll be on track for the fight for 7th.

Say what you will, the guy gets results. Everton are guaranteed a top half finish. Not that bad all things considered.

Cant see it being long term the few scousers i know were suggesting they would stop going if Allyrdche became manager.

I think ill raise this fact next time i bump into them.

Good to see Rooney doing the biz for them and a top 8 finish from where they were would be fantastic.

I'd you don't mind me saying Abertawe, you've turned into a bit of a c**t recently. Everything ok? I hope this Nintendo thing hasn't resulted in some sort of issue behind the scenes.

I think you're speaking for yourself. have a read of your recent posts - it's the murmurings of an angry bitter man. give your head a wobble - it really doesn't suit you. let's have the happy pagz back eh.

Happy? Nah. I've been the same for the last 12 years on these forums. I've always been a miserable cnut. You've changed in the last couple of weeks though, and not for the better.

No worries though, as long as you're OK.

From where they were? The bottom of this league is so convuluted you only need to put a decent 4-5 game run together and you fly up to the top half.

Leicester sacked Shakespeare when the relegation zone looked and they’re flying now. I think Everton would have finished top half with Koeman. Only the manner in which they do it may be different

How is it possible that Allardyce performs way better than Koeman, although it's the same squad? Does this prove that Koeman failed?

He never replaced Lukaku or alter his tactics so compensate that. I also heard he wasnt liked within the staff in the club. Weird cos i thought he looked a decent man compared to how he was as a player anyway.
