Ruthless business!

Seem harsh - not the greatest start but had a tough run of games.

Maybe should have been given more time?

Having said that the Leicester fans seem quite happy...

Didn't think he was the right appointment long term, got a reaction out of them last season but thought they needed a more experienced man to build the team and playing style. Still a bit harsh this early in the season, can't see Leicester being involved in a relegation battle at the end of the season. Perfect job for Allardyce.

What William Shakespeare might have said about his (possible) descendant's sacking.....

"Rich gifts wax poor when givers prove unkind" (Hamlet)

"Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown" (Henry IV Pt II)

"Et tu, Brute" (Julius Caesar)

And to the Leicester City owners:

"One might smile, and yet smile and be a villain" (Hamlet)

Take away his first 5 games and 5 wins and he has won 3 drawn 5 and lost 8 of his 16 games. And they have been very slow predictable and ponderous recently. Still a sad indictment on modern football.

We're basically at the point where the PL fixture computer determines the fate of a manager, aren't we. I mean, yeah, they're in the bottom three but their losses this season have come against Arsenal, United, Liverpool and Chelsea. All things considered it's downright silly to give him the boot so early.

You can tell some managers curry favour with the media, and some don't. The positive delight this has been met with in the media implies Shakepeare did not.

Which is a shame, I like to see managers standing against an overreaching media.

Klopp and Mourinho (and latterly Redknapp) use the media very well to avoid criticism, it's a self preservation tactic. Random jobbers like Nigel Adkins and Eddie Howe seem to do it as well.

Claude Puel is linked very heavily to the job.

Not sure Southampton fans will have a lot of good words to say about him.

He didn't do too bad with Southampton but I get the impression that a lot of their fans weren't impressed with the style of football on display under Puel. He wouldn't be an awful appointment for Leicester but would be a little underwhelming if anything. Saying that, the come down after winning the league and their run in Europe was always going to be a tough one.

I'll be disappointed. Cowardly manager.

To be fair we've continued to be boring as fuck so maybe it wasn't all down to his tactics.

He didn't do a bad job with Southampton, got them to a League Cup final and finished 9th was it?

Strange appointment, he's not really an upgrade on the job Shakespeare was doing there.

Hope he gives Slimani a bit more playing time. Think he needs to evolve Leicester’s style and squad a tad in January, they’re predictable now

Speaking of media self aggrandisement, it takes a special kind of hypocrisy to complain about 'foreigners' taking jobs when you live and work abroad yourself.

Keys is the archetypal Brexit voting little Englander.

You have to ask why so many want to come here?

Is it the money and chance of a new challenge in the "best league in the World"

Whilst most of our retired players would rather be pundits and play golf most of the time..

There will be a variety of factors. First of all, there are foreign coaches in most footballing nations. Secondly, English teams typically pay the most (maybe except China). It isn't the best league in the world but is one of the most high profile. English managers have historically, and currently, a pretty dreadful reputation. They are also far less likely to go abroad meaning foreign managers will likely have a greater breadth of experience and cultural adaptability enabling them to connect better with an international squad. Finally, owners are typically more international now as well.

Basically, management has moved on from Peter Reid, Barry Fry, Harry Redknapp dinosaurs and you need people with adept man management skills able to handle an international squad of extremely wealthy (and sometimes talented) players.

Of course, your last point is also a factor. Being a manger is tough and high profile, why bother when you're already rich and being a pundit is the easiest job in the world where even those who are incredibly bad at it - Paul Merson - still survive.

Those who do want to become managers, like Giggs, Neville and Gerrard, Keane are too arrogant to actually learn how to become a manager with a smaller club and expect the biggest jobs to just come to them. Neville (G) and Keane were already a complete disaster, and I'd be shocked if the other two don't follow in their footsteps. Alex Ferguson started at East Stirlingshire, Giggs thinks Championship teams are beneath him.

Go on then, what league is better than the English League? Please don't say the German or Spanish, they are 1 horse and 2 horse races.

Serie A this year possibly. Not saying Juve aren't still favourites but it's going to be a lot tighter this year.

Depends entirely what metric you are using.

I would suggest to be the greatest league in the world you would need the greatest teams in the world - European competition in the last few years has proven English teams to be quite far off the top tier.

From a marketing perspective even Sky and BT have even stopped using it. The 'most competitive league in the world' now being the preferred moniker - even though that's even less accurate.

David Beckham did coach England (as coach not manager), I believe at the 2010 world cup?

He was wearing a jazzy waistcoat as I recall.

Did terribly obviously, he was never the brightest.

Peter Reid & Harry Redknapp were good football men and achieved high heights as managers so your assessment of them I find bittered albeit I do agree with most of your post. Even though Arry still likes the wonga those guys were of their time so I would expect football to have moved on. Stuart Pearce would have been a better example to use.

Puel is really just a French version of what you speak of though. He was given the top job on the basis of being a career Monaco boy and helping out with the reserves. Crap appointment by Leicester and rival teams will be quite pleased I bet.
