Following on from last year's hugely successful Pancota thread, I've decided to turn my attention to another Romanian second division side - enter the mighty Foresta, who look well equipped to step into Pancota's shoes, and forever carry the torch for Europe's worst football sides. I gather they're also following Pancota's modus operandi and playing with kids.

I've yet to read up on any info I can find on this fine club - I'll probably have to turn to Habbinalan once again for help in translating Romanian into English - but I feel like I'm on the right track. Just check out the result of Foresta's opening match of their campaign against Ripensia Timisoara and you'll definitely agree with me. A whopping 16-0 defeat

Never, Vanni!

How come your interest in Romanian football? I have to admit I know fuck all about it, can't even name their most popular clubs immediately.......after 10-20 secs Steaua Bucharest came to my mind (don't know if that's correct). So, yes I'll follow your trip into the Romanian League with interest.

I don't even know where Romania is let alone their footy clubs!

Seriously though, while I may know where it is, I'm like you - I'll struggle to name three or four Romanian clubs. First one I can think of is Steaua (obviously), and then there's Cluj I think, and Astra-something, but I'v only heard of these clubs as they are regulars in the European cups.

My interest is only down to the fact that I tend to go through all the scores on Flashscore during the opening weeks of the season, to try and find out if there are some truly awful footy clubs. Last year I got lucky with Pancota (you should've seen their results Dirk, several double figure scores and loads of 8-0's and 9-0's ) but they folded halfway through the season. Then another 3 or 4 sides followed suit iirc, and there were loads of 'awarded/3-0 ' games.

This year promises to be no different as I see that Foresta are also playing their youth side. Apparently this is pretty common in Romanian footy as clubs over there are 'sponsored' by their local councils and it all goes pear shaped when the LC backs out.

ps - btw, I know that there are loads of truly awful sides all across Europe, but these are generally regional league sides, so their results wouldn't be that surprising. OTOH, It's rare to find such truly dire sides plying their trade in the second division of any European country.

National edition: San Marino?
I think you have to go to the African nations at international level to come close to levels of corruption, ego and incompetence that can be found in the Romanian leagues. Think Billlericay meets Orient 2016/17 meets Trump after taking some dodgy drugs.

Vanni's new faves seem to have woven a web even more tangled than last year's offering, Șoimii Pâncota.

I just looked into your link, Habbinalan and was very astonished to find

AFC Hermannstadt - CS Baloteşti

Hermannstadt, that's the German name (located in "Siebenbürgen (Transylvania)") , it was the centre of the "Siebenbürger Sachsen (Transylvanian Saxons)" most of them immigrated to Germany later. Interesting (for me) that the German name of the city still stands

I worked in Romania in the 90s. There were whole villages in Transylvania (around Brasov and Sibiu I remember in particular) that had virtually emptied of their ethnic German (German speaking) occupants and were like ghost towns/villages. Most who could went to Germany, even though their families had been "Romanian" for generations.

I never knew the place as Hermannstadt, only Sibiu, but I guess they've revived the name for the football team, which was only started in 2015.

You may also be interested to know that we have a team of Romanians, called FC Romania, that play in our Essex Senior League. I remember Cambridge City signed a decent Centre half from them.

I looked up the opposition for saturday and the Mureșenii drew with Hermannstadt but lost to CS Smoke in their pre-season friendlies.

Relegated from Liga 1 last season, they won their opening match 2 - 1 at home to newly promoted Miroslava Ştiinţa.

Their only honour in their short history is when they beat Steua to win the Romanian Super Cup in 2015. They then played St Etienne in the Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round, losing over 2 legs despite winning the 2nd leg in France.

Just the 0-6 defeat then for Foresta, but a definite improvement on the opening day as Targu had to wait 'til the 28th min to take the lead. Way to go boys. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before 'we' restrict 'our' opponents to just two or three goals. BTW, the tickets for this match cost 10 Leu, and that's the equivalent of £1.99. Good deal no?

Here are some highlights of the opening day 16-0 defeat. Of particular interest are those fans behind the goal who are able to watch the game for free

16-0 :D Germany beat Russia once 16-0 too. 1912 at the Olympics, Gottfried Fuchs alone scored 10 Goals. Both records for 105 years now

The only word I understand in the yt clip was "Hermannstadt" :D How many spectators? Romanian 2nd league is more like German Kreisklasse (9th level) it seems (spectator wise)

The attendance was given as 500 in a 12,500 capacity stadium. They had 1,500 at home to Brasov at the end of last season.

I've seen attendances of 2,000 and 3,000 in Liga 2, as well as 200 and 300 - so it's probably similar support levels to National League.

The Galben-Verzii (The Yellow and Greens) are not doing bad for a bunch of 16/17 year olds.

I take back what I said about match tickets costing less than two quid being a good deal. Take a look at this vid of a drunken Foresta Fan from last year I think - nothing extraordinary about being drunk at a footy match - but look at the state of that stand! And I thought seating was meant to be safer than standing

Anyway, for the benefit of my fellow Galben-Verzii* fans (*cheers Alan) here are a few of the goals from Saturday's 6-0 home loss. BTW, I hope the ultras kick up a fuss because those shorts and socks are definitely not yellow and green.

Here are the highlights from FC Hermannstad's 3-0 home win on the opening day of the season. Just to keep our good German friend Dirk interested in this thread ;), and to get an idea of what their ground looks like. The wiki page for Hermannstadt claims and I quote -'Hermannstadt's average home attendance in the 2016–17 Liga III season was between 4,000 and 5,000, the highest in that competition'. I have my doubts after looking at the video, unless all their fans are still on their hols!

In response to the first video - Vanni, do you think that Seamus may have a Romanian lovechild?

In response to the second, the lads are actually from Club Omnia Sport Suceava and were probably playing in their own kit.

The music on the final video is brilliant and the offering from Club Omnia Sport above strikes a chord. It takes me back to the vinyl collection that I have from the 90's (admittedly mostly folklorica) but in particular a long lost thread from the old days on the Music Venue - https://www.onefootballforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/romanian-disco-the-early-years.5949/

Unfortunately the scene has sunk a little since those halcyon days.

Tomorrow's match at Braila may be the last chance for the "kids" to represent the Galben-Verzii. Investors/Vultures seem to be hovering.

".....Author: GazetaSV August 18, 2017

Foresta will sacrifice a match, the Suceava team will present themselves tomorrow, on the field of Dacia Unirea Braila, with the same juniors prepared by Florin Cristescu.

" We are all aware that too many expectations we can not have. All that these kids can do is run, kick, and try to get as much out of the Braila game. I hope to be the last stage in which we present this formula , "said coach Florin Cristescu.

The leadership of Areni chose to go further on this compromise solution in hopes of coming out of the crisis next week with the conclusion of the negotiations he has been talking for a couple of days with two Moldovan businessmen willing to get involved financially At ACS Foresta......."

Hermannstadt continued unbeaten and moved to 3rd in the league on goal difference. A Daniel Tătar goal in the last seconds of extra time delivered a 2 - 1 win against the Vlachs of Călărași.

Foresta got their first goal, an equaliser from Horoamă that got them to 45 minutes level. An added time goal meant they went in 2 - 1 down at half time and, tiring in the second half, they finally lost 9 - 1. All but 3 of the Braila goals came from corners, free kicks and a penalty.

Can't find any highlights of the match, and I so desperately want to see 'our' goal :(

Alan, I reckon it's more likely Foresta are going to get kicked out of the league than investors taking over. It can't be good for their FA when Foresta's results (and Pancota the year before) are making headlines across the globe. And I can see why, as it's just like what I said in my op - one doesn't expect such huge defeats in any second division league all over the world and things like these only happen in regional football.

I remember that thread you linked above, the one on Romanian disco, but I'm afraid I know nothing at all about the music scene over there. I wasn't even aware there is such a thing as Romanian disco! But it got me thinking about vinyl - did Romania have any record presses at all? I have some records that were pressed in the former Eastern Bloc (Russia, Yugoslavia and Czechoslavakia) but none from Romania. I also have a couple of records that I think were pressed in Hungary but I'm not entirely sure they manufactured records over there too.

All I can offer on the "highlights" front, to give a flavour of Coroamă's goal, is the rolling live text of the game (via translation). There are some cracking translations in there, including Roşoagă translated as Reddog, lobbled and some great gobbledygook.

FINAL | DACIA UNIREA BRĂILA - FOREST SUCEAVA 9-1
Stadium: Municipal (Brăila)
Referees: Marius Chiţu (Târgovişte). Assistants: Florin Burlacu (Urziceni) and Doru Zamfir (Slatina)

►Brăila: Olaru - Niţă, Ivan, Stanciulescu, G. Mihai - Frunza (Cpt.), Covaciu, Ciucureanu, Cubleşan, Roşoaga - C. Roşu
Reserves: Logofătu, Olenic, Ed. Oprea, M. Dima, Puia, Leu, Iosofache
Coach: Alin Pânzaru

►Foresta: Bîlbă - Colţuneac, Tacu, Bolocan, Negrea, Bosînceanu (cpt.), Scutariu, Buterchi, Duck, Tavaluc, Coroamă
Reserves: Dohotariu, Mandiuc, Onuţ, Buliga, Sorodoc
Coach: Florin Cristescu

►Minus 83 9-1 Puia has pulled from the edge of the free kick for Bîlbă.

Min 77 8-1 The Oprea ball from 25 meters was defeated in the goal of an opponent and Bîlbă was defeated for the eighth time.

Min 74 7-1 Puia hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but he mishandled it, giving Roşu the yellow card after a ballful in the close of the goal.

►Min 71 6-1 Red turns the penalty by Covaciu

Min 60 5-1 Frunză scored after having passed all the defensive defender and shot in front of the goal.

Min 57 4-1 Reddog from the right, Niţă takes over and scores at the long corner. The score reaches again for Foresti's juniors.

Min. 52 3-1 Deep in for Rossoaga, who lobbled on Bâlbă for 3-1. The hosts are on the table.

Min 45 + 1 2-1 Leaf scored the second time from free kick, right-side, on the short corner.

►Min 42 1-1 Counter-attack action on the right side of Tacu, the ball reached Coroamă, which scored the first goal of Suceava in this championship.

Min 31 1-0 Leaves scored from a free kick at the long corner of 18 meters from Bîlbă's gate, who made six times from one-to-one position with the advertised players.

I think Romanians are pretty hung up on the rules for these things and they're struggling to find a rule that has been broken so far - so this may run for a while.
..I remember that thread you linked above, the one on Romanian disco, but I'm afraid I know nothing at all about the music scene over there. As far as records go, I have around a dozen Romanian vinyl offerings, all from the early 90s and most were definitely manufactured in Romania. Unfortunately no Disco (virtually all of the discos and nightclubs that I visited across Romania leaned heavily on the semi-naked dancers rather than the DJs to draw in the punters). Many are classic Romanian Folklorica, solos or groups with traditional instruments. There's an operatic tenor, Ion Falculete - long story involving a lot of drinking with the Falculete family in the village of Văleniin in Dâmboviţa county. The most contemporary and accessible is a collection of Christmas Carols from an internationally known guy called Stefan Hrusca, who I saw perform in Bucharest. I also have a maxi single "You are the Future" by Children from Romania (actually a couple of kids called Michael and Catalina) produced and pressed in Holland with the children supported by such stars as Tripple Pleasure, Casanova Brown and Carl Linger.

I think the Romanian Disco music scene developed after my time over there (6 or 7 trips between 1990 and 1992) but some of the guys we had over for training in the mid 90s were heavily into strutting their stuff, more so than the gals.

Well guess what. We're still in August and only four league games have been played, and one Div 2 club has already given up and resigned from the league. The reason apparently is the owner doesn't want to put any more money into the club :ffs:

http://liga2.prosport.ro/seria-1/ca...tul-meciul-cu-fc-arges-nu-se-disputa-16704600

Meanwhile our Foresta boys played their fourth league match and were only beaten 2 nil by Arges Pitesti. Well done lads, onwards and upwards and so on. Problem is their next opponents are Chindia Targoviste who trounced Miroslava 9-0 in their last league match.

Foresta keeper, Sebastian Bîlba, sent off in the 28th minute for his second yellow card, presenting CHINDIA TÂRGOVIŞTE with their second penalty. 17 yr old Alexandru Dohotariu comes on in goal as winger Alin Scutariu is sacrificed. Down to 10 men/boys in front of 1,000 Târgovişte supporters, the lads got to half time only 2 - 0 down - from the 2 penalties. However, a tiring bunch of triers are now 5 - 0 down with 10 minutes to go.

Foresta finished 6 - 0 losers

Dirk AFC Hermannstadt and UTA Arad has just kicked off. A win for Hermannstadt will take them joint top of the league on points. Apparently the keeper's name, Căbuz, translates as "Crazy." As I type, home side go 1 - 0 up.

LIVE | AFC HERMANNSTADT - UTA ARAD 0-0
Stadium name: Municipal (Sibiu);
Referee: Iulian Dima (Bucharest); Assistants: Romica Bîrdeş (Piteşti) and Raul Constantin Ghiciulescu (Lugoj).

Hermannstadt: Crazy - D. Tatar, D. Crişan, Ct. Pîrvulescu, Pamfile - Dîlbea, Boboc - P. Petrescu, Bg. Rusu, S. Lupu - C. Neagu
Reserves: Moldovan - Al. Neacşa, Cristian, I. Popa, Stoica, Cîrstean, Necşulescu
Coach: Alexandru Pelici

UTA: Grahovac - Adili, Al. Manea, Madam. Ciucă, Burlă - Strătilă, I. Tanase, Asani, Buleică - Toma, Curtuiuş
Reserves: Barna - Jorza, Cârstocea, Scutaru, Stahl, Gregory, Polgar

I thought I'd let you all Foresta fans know that our lot wore the usual horizontal yellow and green stripes kit against Chindia, not that yellow and blue nonsense :told:

BTW, an excellent chance to keep the score down to a respectable 1 or 2 goal defeat next Saturday. Metaglobus will be the visitors to our lovely ground, and they've only scored 5 times in 5 matches this season.

Go on you Galben-Verzii :sb:

We finally have a tentative (ish) L2 connection with our heroes in yellow & green. Daniel Pappoe is one of five new signings, four of whom played in a friendly against school kids from LPS Suceava on Monday. The Accra born, Deptford raised, ex Chelsea youth, has been at Colchester (red card on his sub debut) and was at Crawley last season (0 appearances), leaving in January. Although he only had 2 games with Colchester in 2013, he managed 9 with Hemel (and 1 at Berliner AK 07) in 2015/16.

I suspect he may have passed under the radar dedwardp ?? Casey ??

Danny Pappoe, Dali Amar Belkacem (23-year-old, central Gaza defender),18-year-old Armenian midfielder Edgar Movsesyan and two ex-Olympique Marseille juniors - Wilhem Renquin (21 years old, right defender) and Seven Cem (19 years old, central defender) all have a chance of starting in saturday's home match against Metaloglobus Bucharest.

Metaloglobus were an amateur factory team for over 50 years, languishing in local Bucharest leagues, until they suddenly got serious in 2011 and were finally promoted to the giddy heights of Liga 2 at the end of last season. A win (or at least goals) for Foresta are a distinct possibility.

Oh and Vanni the term for the kit is hoops (cercuri) not "horizontal stripes" (dungi orizontale) :ffs: :told::told:

Well Alan, hoops may be a better description than horizontal stripes but afaic both are correct. I rather prefer not using the word hoops if I can get away with it, though it seems like I haven't this time, as I associate the word with Doncaster (yuck), QPR (double yuck), Celtic (triple yuck), and with basketball. Hula hoops are fun though.

Good news re. the signings made by the cercuri ;) Remains to be seen how much of a difference they'll make though. Probably none.

Foresta are leading at home to Metaloglobus. Andrei Cerlinca put us ahead on 22 minutes.

Looks like we're still playing some kids but strengthened by some seniors. The bench looks a bit thin and there seems to have been a change of coach, with Portuguese Marius Lup coming in.

Foresta: Began - O. Onofraş, Diallo, Masella, Păvăluc, Vl. Stănescu, R. Sumanariu, Coroamă, Bosanceanu, Cerlinca, Duceac
Reserves: Husache - Alexandrovici, Gulei
Coach: Marius Lup
