Ours was the shit level of parachute payments, shit players, awful managerial appointments, weird chairmen and the fans blind fucking loyalty/apathy. Took 4 years to protest, cuddle Ken Bates, split a fanbase and we still have a c*** band.

You guys can kill the band if you want. Nobody will hold it against you.

Blues also had it with Carson Yeung who is now in a Hong Kong prison somewhere, villa had a field day with it when we were broke and transfer embargoed. They must expect some back especially as bluenoses have barely ever had a chance to gloat  It’s all just banter anyways :shifty:;)

Yep.
From Wikipedia
“On 29 June 2011, Yeung was arrested at his home in Hong Kong in connection with alleged money laundering.[18] Police officers also swooped on the offices of Birmingham International, and left with an assortment of documents. A brief statement mentioned that Narcotics Bureau officers searched two locations – one on Hong Kong Island and the other in Kowloon – and seized documents. The charges involved five counts of dealing with property known or believed to represent proceeds of an indictable offence.[19] His hearing was adjourned until 11 August 2011, and was remanded on bail of HK$7 million (US$900,000).

Yeung was supposed to travel on 14 September 2011 to attend to his duties at Birmingham City football club. Given permission to travel after his cash bail was doubled to HK$8 million the prosecution appealed on the grounds there was a risk of him not returning. The High Court allowed an appeal and reversed the ruling made in August by the District Court and gave him permission to leave Hong Kong for England.[20] Yeung's trial opened in May 2013 and lasted until March 2014, when he was found guilty on five counts of money laundering a total of HK$720 million and was sentenced to six years' imprisonment.[5] The trial judge, Douglas Yau, commented that Yeung was "not a witness of truth",[21] and that his sentence included a necessary element of deterrence.[5]

On 13 May 2015, the Hong Kong Court of Appeal dismissed Yeung's appeal against conviction.[22] Yeung abandoned his appeal against his sentence.[23]

On 14 August 2015, the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal granted Yeung leave to appeal his conviction and released him on HK$7 million bail and cash surety of HK$6 million. Yeung was ordered to surrender his travel documents and not to leave Hong Kong.[24] On 12 July 2016, the Court of Final Appeal rejected Yeung's appeal and he was immediately taken back into custody.[25]”

:fl: Genuinely made me laugh.

I do feel for the fans but something's got to give, the game is a mess. Could be us in a couple of years.
It was quite funny for a nose, I'll give him that.

Fair point. Ours was mainly down to the collapse of ITV digital than the incompetence of our owners though.

That’s what happened to us too and arguably the reason we’ve never really looked like going up.

Ifs, buts and maybes yes, but if the money had been around in the 70s/80s I’m sure we’d have still been up there. Not that I agree with the amount of money there is, but a few clubs hit their peak too soon. Us, Leeds, Forest...

Villa really is the gift that keeps on giving. But I reckon that they will be promoted because they will have to get rid of all their superstars (I'm using the term loosely) and will probably be attractive to a lot of good younger players.

Maybe from League 2 at this rate.

There has been too many free rides at villa. People think they can just come to the club, get paid well then retire, or just do whatever they want. The amount of money we've wasted is astronomical.

For some reason he doesn't seem to want to sell up, or does he? Either way it's leaving the fanbase very confused. He's taken more loans out, which means more debt ,which means the chances of getting X amount of money that he wants to sell up is decreasing every week. Expect a few sales next week, and a few loans coming in. He's looking at people to invest into the club with hardly any control for the investor. It simply won't happen. We seem to have some decent youngsters, and with all the chaos I'm glad Bruce has not been given the boot.

Rumours of Chester for £5mil - Id say double it at least.

I still believe we will be in administration before the season starts

Is this just down to one season of trying to really get promoted by pumping loads of money in plus loss of parachute payments?

Trying to do things in the short term rather than thinking about the long term consequences.

Yep, I'd want 10m with how today's prices are. Very good defender.

It was a two year gamble which everyone thought would pay off. We spent loads in our first season to try and bounce back straight away. The second season we didn't spend a great deal, but was left with a sky high wage bill in the championship which simply does not pay. We had the same scenario with Lerner without the danger of all this financial situation that we find ourself in now.

Long before. They spent over 70m in the space of three seasons and nearly all the signings were established names with their best days behind - it was the wages that did them in. They've been trying to recover from that for years so getting relegated and not getting back before parachute payments stop will finish them. Villa will be no more in the not so distant future.

That's the gamble you have with these foreign owners. Lerner funded the signings and wages to try and break the top 4. He looked at what his money was getting him, and thought fuck spending all this to just finish 6th every season. A lot of the signings as you say we're not profitable as some were just not good enough. Lerner pulled the plug on the signings and wages, and told the next managers to operate on a shoe string. We were in no danger like we are now though. Yet again we've made the same mistakes by going crazy with transfer fees, wages, and bringing the wrong type of players in.
