This season can fuck off. Lurching from one disaster to another tbh.

All is not lost Aber, you beat Middlesex, and you will most likely beat my lot in the televised game later today

Surprised Somerset have let Hose go to Warwickshire immediately when both teams are fighting relegation. Putting my football cap on, I'd have let him rot in the seconds for the rest of the season if I were Somerset.

England to bat first, probably the right decision just need to not treat it like a one day match for the first couple of hours. Malan in the team, am comfortable with that.

Jennings found wanting again, out for a 9 ball blob.

Why is he anywhere near the team?

Which is why I think something happened with Maynard.

Good session there from England, with the exception of Jennings who is just a walking wicket some impressive work from Cook and Westley.

Impressed with Westley, looks proactive. Reminds me of a more stylish Johnathon Trott in many ways (good ability to leave, anything straight gets put away through mid-wicket/leg side). Could be a tough day with us most likely to spend quite a bit of time off the field for heavy shower this afternoon/evening - tomorrow looks better until late in the day though, so if we can keep plenty of wickets in hand, it could be time to cash in tomorrow.

Let's see though, our ability to collapse is second to none so you always have to be on guard.

Game in the balance now with Westley and importantly Root out.

De Kock has been excellent behind the stumps, great catch to get rid of Root and the ball has moved/dipped after the bat a lot so far today.

114-3 and off for rain.

Malan gone for 1 off of 15.

120-4. Need someone to come in and put a shift in with Cook.

Malan got a great delivery in fairness.

South Africa's bowling in these conditions has been superb, it's been wave after wave.

Aye, only one that was really down to poor batting was Jennings but his technical deficiencies are well known about. The rest have just been very good bowling. Cook is the key here, played the anchor role perfectly.

If Cook goes on to make a hundred, this will be up there with some of his best. Outstanding batting off the face of some brilliant bowling in bowler friendly conditions.

Philander has found a very good line and is giving Cook and Stokes a difficult time with his pace and late swing.

Malan didn't get much of a chance to show what he can do before getting bowled neck and crop by a beauty. There wasn't anything he could have done about it.

Agree the comments regarding Jennings. Whilst it's difficult to fully evaluate a player when he hasn't yet played many matches, I don't see much about him that suggests he will be a long term proposition.

I'm not at all sure that choosing to bat was the wisest choice that Root will ever make as Captain. That pitch looks a bit green to me and the light isn't too good even with the floodlights on. Perhaps he was hoping the openers could get through the morning session and the sun would come out in the afternoon.

171 / 4 isn't great but it's salvageable if England get good batting conditions tomorrow. Bairstow and Ali still to bat, and Broad to give it a thrash before the rabbits come and go gives us some hope of getting a decent score yet.

Think England should be relatively satisfied with 171-4 at the close given the quality of bowling they have faced in helpful conditions and all the constant interruptions in play. Cook has been absolutely brilliant, proper test match batting. I think anything over 300 will be pretty good, some foot marks already there for the spinner.

Good job we've got two spinners then... oh wait.

Some fantastic hitting from Davies and now Myburgh for Somerset in this T20. Should get over 200 here.

Super Joe Denly!

That should be us winning with that rain.

Yep, typical. Looks like that rain has won Somerset the game.

Sam Northeast bringing us back into this. They should just get part time spin on as we've been crap against it in the rain.

With 8 wickets in hand at just over 8 an over I'd expect this should be pretty straightforward for Kent at this stage.

Good win for Kent in the end.

Went to Lords to see the Brendon McCullum master class (aided by Eoin Morgan and John Simpson) and some woeful Essex batting leading to an easy win for the home side.

What an absolutely magnificent century from Stokes, given the game situation right up there with his best innings.

Nearly at 350 now for England, more than decent total in these conditions.

That catch in the crowd was brilliant. One handed with his beer in the other hand as far away from the ball as possible. The 6 was pretty decent too!

Good start by Ronald Jones - 2 early wickets.
