Bump. Getting a bit bored of hearing this...

"I've told them, Luton believe they are a good team because they are all on four-times more money than we are, but we should believe too because we are a good team."

That’s just typical Artell. In his opinion they should be top of the league with 100% win record as they either should of got a win or were mugged by officials!

Sounds like your standard find an angle, aim to inspire manager’s speech to players.

Surely bigger and more important things to get bored with Ken?

When has he said that? Most of his interviews this season have been blasting our misfits for blowing leads and failing to repeatedly turn a corner... (which we seem to have turned now incidentally)

Don't worry you won't be hearing it in League One.
When you have a team like Sunderland with their parachute payment next season I can’t imagine what some of these managers would think.

I’m gonna have a guess here and say Sunderland will be a one off in L1 next season. Lots of similar comments aimed there way

It just makes a complete mockery of the competition. Everyone else, in what is generally a pretty competitive division, will be playing for second place. They should get getting 105+ points.

If they keep them all, which I severely doubt they will, they will still have the likes of Bryan Oviedo, Paddy McNair, Lamine Kone, Lee Cattermole, Jack Rodwell, Aiden McGeady under contract. Its lunacy.

And if they completely fuck up and fail Mansfield-style, they get another £18m the following season on top of the £35m next season. Its like being back in the Conference with the one direct promotion place!

Really? If you are sooooo certain Sunderland will win L1 next season, do yourself a favour and put some serious cash on it and pay for your Luton season ticket :brill:

No need, the Grand National paid for a chunk of it yesterday!

The irony of valefan16 posting that is staggering, was it only last week he was bleating about the officials robbing vale, he sure has a hard on for big Dave :69:

Would it particularly offend/bore you if managers used that to motivate their players? I don't see a problem with it myself. You've said yourself the resources Sunderland will have compared to other teams will be lunacy. We all know money goes a long way towards bringing success so why shouldn't managers acknowledge it and try and use it to gain a psychological advantage? Accrington Stanley certainly do. When you're the ones on the receiving end then I'm sure it does grate a bit but I'm sure Luton will be the ones making those kinds of point next season.

I don't know why Luton fans get so defensive over managers commenting on their finances and budget.

Show me another club in this league who've spent £350,000 on one individual player this season.

It's not envy or jealousy, I think a lot of fans (bar rivals) are happy for Luton after what happened to them and after they were fucked over wrongly by the FA, but their fans constantly claiming their budget isn't that big is all a pack of lies. I comfortably believe they're the biggest spenders in the league this season but there's no shame in it, they're obviously run well enough and they've sold enough quality players to be able to afford such fees and wages, so I can understand why managers comment on it, but it's up to managers to get the cup runs, bring in the fans and develop players for fees themselves.

There are a few clubs at these lower levels that don't see themselves as a selling club (when in reality nearly every club in this country bar Manchester City are) and that pride perhaps costs them a chance to build better squads because they don't want to "cash in" on a key asset. Whereas cashing in could really help rebuild a club in the long run if the cash is used wisely. Luton have sold key players and reinvested profit back into the squad on fees and wages, it's a sound business model and they're reaping the rewards from it and that's why they'll be in League One next season.

I don't disagree - I've not seen any moaning from fans. From my perspective, its managers who seem to use it as an excuse to losing and almost that the world is against them.

I don't think any Luton fan has said that the club's budget isn't big. I'd say its probably the biggest its been since we were relegated from L1 and the highest since 2020 took on the mess from the previous owners. Its a lot of investment inbound, yes, but the club is on a sound financial footing, debt free apart from on the stadium project and have an excellent infrastructure both on and off the pitch. I don't think there's a club in L2 currently that is in such an equipped position for future progression.

Why? It's literally true. You have a superior squad to anyone in this league because you can afford to pay them vastly more than anyone else can, why shouldn't managers comment on that?

To be fair to Artell he did mention Accrington in the next sentence as an example of how Crewe want to get it right with spending less money.

But he also went into great detail about how there were fouls not given in the lead up to all of the goals before claiming to not be "ref bashing"

He is a complete buffoon.

Anyone care to point to where those fouls should’ve been given? Because I’m struggling...

Who cares?? It’s commonplace for opposing managers to say things like this (foul in build up to a goal) especially for a manager who’s team has lost. I presume you aren’t new to football so you already know this.

Kenneth, you care too much over little things. You sound like a young imp. Can I suggest you just smile or smirk and carry on with life

Exactly what he said - in every pre-match press conference, every single manager also says how good the other team are, even the sides who are bottom. Nobody ever says "I went to see them last week and they were woeful, I think we'll win comfortably." Then after the game, every manager is 99% of the time adamant that their team deserved more from the game.

It's all very predictable and meaningless, and not worth worrying about. Apart from the extreme cases which provide a bit of delusional humour, like Steve Cotterill.

Good points but Artell is a special breed.

Claiming our goalkeeper feigned injury because he was embarrassed by a mistake that lead to a goal, for example.

I suspect being a Vale fan , and no doubt a local radio station listener , that your comments are possibly a touch biased?

I don’t know who you are , therefore what you think doesn’t matter.

But please don’t take anything to heart , it’s just a football forum

Possible but I'm so convinced that the guy is a buffoon that even allowing for a touch of bias I'm still pretty safe.
I think Paul Lambert is fine and doing a marvelous job at Stoke:10:

Nathan Jones deserves a mention for this.

The best, most consistent side apparently, despite having 6-9 less points and having won 4-5 less games then Accy, (depending on how they do at Newport).
