Alright guys, lets face it, this forum is a ghost town. Cotton is flying through the screens and there isn't a peep. Its really discouraged me from using the forum as of late, and I'm sure many others.

This place was a ton of fun in the past. Great for time wasting and just using the shoutbox to post my shite that I couldn't blurt out in the real world. So what's happened?

I get that some members have been banned, but I don't get the entire reason. It doesn't seem totally harmful. Just disrespecting staff shouldn't be enough for a permanent ban. Those bans have turned people off, and honestly there are other solutions to it. Some of the people who have been banned were my enemies and I hated them, but I have found ways around it and I'm not so delighted anymore after seeing the effects.

As a disclaimer, I know TB and Saddler are working hard to get the place busy again, but right now its a dead zone. Even the awards didn't happen this year. I said it a few months ago and I stand by it: this forum breathes by its trolls and love em or hate em, there are some who love em and those alongside the wind ups keep the place running.

Cheers

My suggestion would be manipulating the SEO for foreign countries. I get that its an english football forum but from my point of view, these people have worked well for the forum. Whether they are here now or were before.

I think I was the first one to show up that is still here with us now, Dirk and Epic are 2 others and both are good members, even if the latter can be annoying.

Voltage was also a good member, he didn't last very long though.

The forum got its members from the old one, and lets face it its been 2/3 years since TFF shut down and it wasn't always going to live on the original core of members. Its time for a different approach. We have a ton of English members and the ones that aren't English have mostly done well and established themselves as a part of this forum. Its really time we need to expand once again.

Use the World Cup to your advantage, TB. Traffic is huge around that time.

It is telling that this is the first year in the history of both TFF and 1FF that we haven't had an end of year awards ceremony.

- Ian - 2 time shoutboxer of the year

To be fair, that's what fucking happens when you give the responsibility to Abertawe.

Give it to Craig FFS. He knows his shit.

I'm a little wary of moves that may be intended to simply bolster the number of participants. Of course we want lively discussions with plenty of input but simply getting more people to join is a sure fire way of being overrun by trolls who leap onto any forum that comes to their attention and then go out of their way to destroy it. Trolls are the digital cancer every site can do without.

I'm not very good at recruitment or marketing so can't offer any constructive advice but I would hope that it would be possible to attract newbies who have something worthwhile to offer. Quality, not quantity is better in my opinion.

We have no current plans to target non-UK traffic, and we already dominate the majority of UK related searches (this is no coincidence).

Footfall to 1FF is actually as high as ever- admittedly posts are down by about 15-20% on this time last year but reflects similarly across the board in a decline in the forums sector as social continues to dominate and in many aspects replace this niche. The only real 'ghost town' area of the site is the shoutbox, and that is no bad thing.

We may make some key shifts this year to try and attract a wider audience but this will need to be discussed as length as it's nowhere near as simple as 'SEO' or 'Marketing'. We're already top of our game in the former. If we really wanted to grow in 2018 then we would need to adapt and introduce something new.

Clean slate? hi i am new to this site but am a regular on another. There are a few people from here who have moved across there and that's how i got to hear about this site. I must admit i prefer this one as its much easier to use and the people are really friendly. I have no clue about the politics on here but have heard some people have been banned for whatever reason. To boost postings maybe give them a second chance?

Just my effort to help, keep up the good work.

Welcome, and cheers for the comments.
Only 3 members are permanently banned from that period and won't be returning for various reasons.

Parts of the forum you use possibly, but the parts I inhabit, namely the actual football bits, are still as strong as ever. I enjoy the odd browse through the non football bits, but to be honest, the fact that some trolling knobbers have buggered off elsewhere to peddle their nonsense is a good thing. I’ve learned a lot from the politics section especially but having to wade through endless squabbling and name calling was getting tedious to say the least. Hopefully now the main protagonists have gone it may encourage a few of the better posters to return.

Perhaps I'm behind the times here but what happened to the Nintendo Switch? Was it finally sent and received or has everyone simply decided not to talk about it anymore and brush it under the carpet?

Leyland now has his Switch but I assume it was Saddler and Mark's doing rather than TB's.

In the last year I've found myself having less and less time for the site, not because of the site itself but simply because I've been doing other things.

I'm going to assume that my lack of activity on here is pretty much the sole reason that it has become less active/awesome a place. Apologies to those who love the site, but I don't really see myself becoming as regular as I once was. So I don't really see it recovering and becoming as great as it once was.

But seriously though, I've not been on here much, so can I just ask about what the Switch stuff was all about? I've seen a lot about it but would like to know the full picture. From what I gather, a competition was ran, somebody won it, and it took them a solid 8 months or so to actually get the prize. Some think that it was a ploy from the admin to try to get new members and they never intended to actually give the switch away, people kicked up, and people got banned.

Is this about it, or is there more?

Apologies if I'm dragging an issue back to life here, but I'd appreciate a quick summary. Who got banned?

That's basically it. Ian got banned, TPP got banned, JoshBCFC got banned, I think piez got banned, and SOC left.

this place is less active due to an overall downward trend in activity within interweb forums according to one of the higher ups. it's mere coincidence that the death of the forum coincided with nintendogate, certain people in power being a bit precious, and popular, active members being banned for challenging the prolonged bullshittery. but hey, we've got yet another dodgy betting sponsor, so that should liven discussion up a bit.
