On this date in 2009, U's travelled to Church Road to lose 3-0 to Hayes & Yeading United in front of 744.

The level of interest in tonight's match against Yeovil seems only slightly higher on here and on our message board - so I invite the fellow fans of similarly stuttering clubs and Newport to express their views here, away from the distractions of trains leaving stations and new manager bounces.

I can see us reverting to 2 up top and my joy would be unbounded if we can start with:

Forde
Halliday, Legge, Taylor, Dunk
Deegan
Mingoia, Maris
Brown
Ibehre, Ikpeazu

It seems that Uche is carrying an injury, so it may be a chance to see what a Brown/Ibhere partnership can do about our disappointing goals for. If so, I'd move Maris to the tip, Dunk to LM, with Carroll starting at LB.

Think it was our second home game in non league we lost at home 2-1 to Hayes and Yeading, that's when I finally realised what we were about to endure for a long long time..........

Very close Alan, just Carroll in for Dunk. I personally would play Dunk instead of Maris but otherwise you can't grumble too much with the side.

We'll smash the green fuckers. 6-0 U's

We made bloody hard work of that. Brown and Maris were excellent for us tonight. Got the win in the end somehow.

Oh and Beavis Mugabe? What a name that is!

Those few who still maintain Derry is a decent manager only need to look at tonight's match to see he really hasn't got a clue. Why in heavens name did he wait 'til the 87th min to make his first sub? And to insult to injury he takes off Maris, who was the best player on show alongside Brown. Like I said the other day, Jabo and Uche are seemingly untouchable, although to tbf to Jabo it was thanks to him we got the win tonight with that last min clearance off the line.

When I consider how we made such heavy weather of that win yet so many gave really good performances (APART FROM PUTTING THE F**KING BALL IN THE NET), I have to come back to Derry's game management. Recruitment aside, it is his major weakness.

It was a good game for Barry Corr to be in the stand, coyly responding to questions about the chance of him re-joining the U's.
