Part II

Who can kill a child? (1976): It has some “common wholes” of horror (like deciding to leave when it’s too late even everything seeming very wrong since before, consciously dropping the gun when you’ll most need it, etc.) and the first hour is a bit slow but it’s still a very good movie. For the thematic (sect of children) is one of the best I’ve already seen.

The other (1972): This one is very obvious since the first minutes but still has an intense approach of mentality. In sume it still has its good point but it had potential to be way better and that made me not really through it.

Ravenous (1999): Good movie indeed. Not like other movies about cannibalism where or there’s only gore and no story development at all or a good plot but all the rest screwed. Everything connects well, good plot, good story development, good acting and good bloody scenes. I just didn’t get much hyped, don’t know why, but can’t deny it’s a well done movie.

Creep

Video footage film of a man with mental health problems who essentially befriends and then stalks the man behind the camera. Quite watchable and tense in places. Not that memorable though.

6/10

Housebound

An odd one. Critically acclaimed horror/comedy. I liked bits of it and disliked others. I thought the main character was quite poor and didn't really fit with the rest of the film. She needed to be a bit more likeable. I think it got the balance between horror and comedy mostly right although the final act felt too much like a spoof. Overall, very watchable and some laughs but again not massively memorable.

7/10

Neil Gaiman's Likely Stories starts in 10 minutes on Sky Arts.

Very enjoyable quartet of short stories. Ranging from from the outright creepy to the downright weird. Utilises the same cast members coupled with a different star for each story. It's not ground breaking television by any stretch but if you enjoy your horror/weird fiction then I highly recommend it. Would be cool to see sky make more of these with other prominent horror writers.

Thought Housebound was ace, I really want Eugene as a friend.

I just kept thinking of electrocuted Marv from Home Alone 2

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Thought it was pretty good. A lot of negative responses to the last 10 minutes or so and I have to agree though not to the extent it ruined the film for me. I loved the idea behind the ending it was just a little OTT in its execution. The rest of the film was quite enjoyable. 7/10

The Witch (2015)
Loved it. Managed to be creepy without the need for cheap scares. Been some excellent horror films released in the last couple of years that have offered a compelling story and relied more on character development and content than the usual in your face jumps and over the top gore (which I'm as much of a fan of as most other horrors fans) which is a nice change. I love horror films that show that this genre can hold its own critically just as much as genres that seem to be taken more seriously by most critics in the mainstream. Also this is yet another one filmed on a shoestring budget that is far superior to a lot of films in the genre with ridiculous money spent on them. 10/10

Europa Report (2013)
Signs of life are discovered on one of Jupiter's moons and a crew is sent to investigate. Naturally it all goes tits up and they find more than they bargained for. It's quite low key and takes the found footage approach with all the scenes, bar the interview with people behind the mission back on Earth, being footage caught on the ship and crews cameras. It was pretty good but ultimately I thought they could have done much better with such a good idea. 7/10

I enjoyed this article on so called folk horror which I read after watching The Witch. http://www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/news-bfi/features/where-begin-folk-horror

A few films mentioned in it that I'm yet to watch.

Someone went/going to see The Conjuring 2?
Confess, unpopularly, I'm not a big fan of the first one but would like to catch this one on the movies as people are saying it's scarier than its previous. And how I enjoy horror with nuns.

I'll wait for a stream or the dvd. Will definitely be watching it, just not at the cinema as unfortunately these films attract the worst kind of audiences, consisting mostly of giggling teenagers.

I like an animal attack film.

Made the mistake of watching the most recent trailer first which gives away far too much.

Watched The Conjuring 2 the other day.

Thought it was OK. Seemed to drag a bit, but it had a few jumps and scares in it.

Were you a fan of the first?
Yea loved it. But the first, after the beginning scene setting there was a jump every few minutes. This one seemed to have a bit more filler for me. Some genuine heart out of chest jumps tho

The Other Side of the Door (2016)
Decent idea that's poorly executed. Not without its moments though and succeeds in being appropriately atmospheric at times. 6/10

Just seen this mowgli. I watched the first 5 minutes a few weeks back and turned it off. Might give it another go when I'm stuck for something to watch.

Enjoyed The Conjuring 2. Made a nice change having a horror film like that set over here as well. Plenty of jump scares.

Sinister 2
You'll all hate me for this, but I didn't think it was bad as everyone on here made it out to be. 7/10.

The Forest
I 'accidentally' bought this on Amazon Video for fuck sake. Can't rate it as I feel asleep after twenty minutes.

English subs for The Wailing have been kicking around for a few days. Definitely worth a watch, if you like a good ghost/possessed spirit film. The best Korean film of the year so far, from what I have seen. Actually, the best Korean film I have watched in a while. Went up against, and came out on top against, Civil War in the box office here.
