The media-orchestrated panic about councillor reselections and 'infiltration' by Momentum, that mephistophelian cabal of pensioners and humanities undergraduates, has reached fever-pitch over the past few weeks. Have they shot their load too early, or is there an unspoken consensus that we're heading towards another GE fairly soon?

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
I see the shadow education secretary Angela Rayner has put her head above the parapet in refusing to sign Momentum's loyalty test.

That'll be a brick through her window from the Momentum thugs who aren't real.

If Angie feels that she can do alright ( she will) without Momentums finite resources then fair play. Nobody is forced to take our support.

So according to a known ex Communist spy, Jeremy Corbyn was a paid informant of the Czech secret police at the height of the Cold War...

And no doubt such bollocks is going to be the front page of every right wing peddling shitrag in the country tomorrow. And the usual suspects will buy into it.

Is there a good reason to dismiss it as bollocks Pagnell?

Local elections coming up and Tories expecting a hiding, perchance?

Yeah, lovely timing as usual. I guess it shows how scared they are of him these days though.

"Whatever you do, don't vote for the spy!"

There will always be idiots who will buy into it mind.

I think the Tories are hoping a Momentum led Council is elected in one of the London Boroughs. Then they’ll have the Ken Livingstone and Derek Hatton type demons to warn against.

Seriously reckon they busted their flush chucking too much at him too early, best mates with the IRA etc. This won't sound any worse than that and don't think it will do much to dent his current support though sure there's a few who have never given him a chance based on some of it. Maybe he'll get a bump from Smiley's People fans too :D

We all know which version you will believe. And the Daily Mail.

This reads somewhat like projection. I simply mentioned the accusation (made to Czech media but somehow the work of the Tories), you're the one who openly chose which side to believe before knowing the facts. I've no doubt this will wash off him like water off a duck's back, he's said and done so many objectionable things at this point that one more vague claim of him selling out Britain isn't going to make much difference to the electorate. The public didn't care about him hosting those Cuban spies not so long ago despite warnings they were a security risk, so I doubt they'll care about something that happened decades ago. It is interesting however that Corbyn seems to be the first port of call for anyone seeking to undermine the state.

They probably looked at his track record and couldn't believe their luck. He was wise to take the Trump tactic of apologizing for nothing, no matter how egregious.

It's perhaps worth mentioning that 126 MPs signed a parliamentary motion calling for the visitation rights of one member of the Cuban Five, the Court of Appeals overruled the Home Office in the last instance, and that many, if not all of that cohort, had visited other European countries for years prior to their admittance to the UK. And Corbyn didn't 'host' anyone; they were general HoC meetings organised to further relations between the US and Cuba. Funny how stories like this become so mangled and robbed of context once they reach the nationals.

The comparison to Trump is absolutely ludicrous and beneath you. Your beliefs are rooted in are founded upon at least a vaguely empirical method. You'd do well to make use of that in this instance.

It's apt. If he'd apologised for all the objectionable things he's done and said in the past then he would have been finished long before now, as Trump would have been.

Fair play to EG. There can't be many people capable of comparing Donald Trump to Jeremy Corbyn whilst keeping a straight face.

I would put this sentiment down to you falling victim to the leftist political echo chamber Pags, but even the Guardian, New Statesman
and HuffPost have written articles on it.

It might just be garden variety ignorance then.

Ignoring thestark difference between the two in actual substance, it’s an absurdly disingenuous comparison. Trump thrives off reactionary instinct and has no principles. Corbyn, whether people agree with him or not, is principled.

If the comparison was so "absurdly disingenuous" then you wouldn't have needed this straw man argument in order to counter it. I never compared them in the broadest sense, I compared a very specific trait in how they both immunize themselves from gaffes past and present, and nothing more.

I can only straw man if you don’t offer any substance. The onus is on you to outline the ways that they specifically compare, rather than offer vague approximations without outlining actual causative parallels.

"He was wise to take the Trump tactic of apologizing for nothing, no matter how egregious."

There was nothing remotely vague about what I said.

It is vague, because it's an abstraction.

"Trump is similar to Corbyn because both are outsiders", "May is right-wing, much as Trump is right-wing", "Ebeneezer Goode is like JonnyTodd, in the sense that his opinions differ from others on the forum." Vague statements that imply much more than what is manifest and without elaboration can mean a number of things.
