5 minutes in, and this? Glad to see you go into this with an open mind...

For what it's worth, I think that the Transformers series is pretty fucking awful too, so much so that I've not even seen the last couple yet. But at least I wait for more than 5 minutes of the films to pass before writing them off entirely. Fuck me, I even give the fast and furious films more time than that, and they make Transformers look fucking Oscar worthy.

Watch this.

Superb film based on a true story of a group of climbers trying to reach the summit in 1996,started off slow but when the blizzard comes in it's gripping viewing. 8/10.

Miss Bala- Average Mexican film about a girl who enters a beauty pageant, only to find it corrupted by a criminal gang, thus forcing her into the lifestyle. Fuck living in Mexico. 6/10.

Ok, you know what? Usually, and I'm talking like 99999 times out of 100000, I'd stick by what I said and I think that it's generally applicable to pretty much anything that you need to give it a fucking chance beyond like 5 minutes.

HOWEVER.

I am certainly not a person who is afraid to admit when they are wrong, so FUCK ME SIDEWAYS I am wrong on this occasion. WHAT. THE. FUCK. This is one of those 1 in 100000 films where no, it's totally fair to write it off after such a short time.

HOWEVER HOWEVER.

Having seen this fucking abomination of an opening, I now absolutely have to make myself watch the entirety of that film just to see how the fuck they can try to justify that level of garbage. So, future me says fuck YOU sideways for making me sit through that shit.

Supposed to be a political thriller with 3 stories all slightly connected, with a cast of Meryl Streep,Robert Redford and Tom Cruise i expected a decent film but it was a complete mess and to be honest utter bollocks,2/10 for the battle scene in Afghanistan.

The Normal Heart- An absolutely superb film which details the emergence of the AIDS virus in America in the 1980s. Despite the brilliant film, I did think Mark Ruffalo's performance was slightly stilted. I'm not a great fan of his work. The supporting cast were stellar and Julia Roberts was very impressive. Absolutely scandalous how the American government responded to that crisis and blamed the gay community for the onset of a destructive disease. The ignorance around the disease at that point in time was devastating to be honest. 9/10

I watched that Kingsman sequel. I thought the first one was quite a fun and silly poke at Bond films and the like. This was more extreme in every way, but I'm just not sure they knew it was a joke this time. Or maybe it wasn't actually a joke last time. It's an alright film to switch your brain off for, but nothing more than that.

This happens all the time with sequels. The first one strikes a perfect balance, but then the director chooses to take everything that worked and turn it up to eleven in the second one. The same thing happened with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, although that still turned out pretty decent.

Leatherface
Latest instalment in the TCM franchise, it follows a young Leatherface leading up to him becoming a chainsaw wielding nutter. It's not bad, it's gory and the cinematography is lovely but there's quite a lot of plot holes. 6/10

Bride of Chucky
Fucking daft as anything but let's be honest, they all are. This is legit funny though and gory enough to keep my attention. 7/10.

Cult of Chucky
Latest of the Childs Play films and as a sequel it's probably one of the better ones. It's done away with the obvious humour and focused a bit more on the scares, it's pretty gory too which is always fun. Some of it is a bit of a clusterfuck but it didn't bother me too much as I don't expect much with these films. Obvious sequel incoming though. 6.5/10.

and not to forget...Tilda Swinton

That bad? One of my colleagues ranks it as their favourite films

I quite liked the movie. Although the (short lived) TV series with Matt Ryan as Constantine was a better adaption of the brilliant Hellblazer comics

A guid dram
Hotel Reserve (1944)

This started off promisingly, about a medical student (James Mason) on holiday, who gets wrongly accused of taking spy photographs for the Nazis. It turns out his camera was switched by the real spy at his hotel, so he has to find out who this is. Was looking a good whodunnit, but instead of it being someone not obvious, it was between one of two distinctly dodgy characters, and this lack of a surprise let it down, despite the excellent Herbert Lom trying his best.

6/10

My Favourite Wife (1940)

Cary Grant in another screwball comedy here about a husband who thinks his wife has died on an expedition, gets remarried, and the day he does so, his wife turns back up. He then has to try and get out the marriage, but complications arise when he later finds out his estranged wife was on a desert island for 7 years with a dashing swashbuckler. Chaos ensues. Great comic timing as always by Grant and the rest of the cast, though its not as funny as some of his other comedies.

7/10

x + y (2014)

British drama starring the always impressive child actor Asa Butterfield. He plays a teenager with Asbergers who is painfully shy in front of people, distant to his single mother due to his condition, and who has bad ocd. However he is a highly talented mathematician, and with the support of his teachers, get enrolled in the mathematical olympiad for teenagers, and has to go to Taiwan, where he learns about other things beside maths. He then begins to open up and learn a bit about the world, and meets a girl who brings his personality out more.

Enjoyable stuff, and the cafe scene towards the end was very well acted and moving.

8/10

Gerald's Game
Thought it was brilliant, I'm unfamilar with this particular Stephen King story so I have no idea how true it stays to the book.
Some really sticky bits that make you cringe. 8/10.

Gerald's Game- 7/10. One of the best horrors I've seen in recent times. Liked that it wasn't supernatural per se.

A very 'meh' film. The most interesting thing about it is that (most of) the people they fire during the film are played by normal people who had recently been fired and were asked to either re enact their reaction to being fired, or to do what they wish they had done when they were fired.

I watched The Blues Brothers (8), Scrooged (8) and Network (10) recently.

I should be back on my zombie trek soon with a bit of luck.
