An outside chance is different to Clotted Cream’s no chance.

Anyway, anyone in the POs with Exeter might as well book their Wembley weekend. Serial bottlers.

Pick the teams from 1st to 15th up, throw it up in the air and that could be the table.

On XG we are supposedly the 5th best team in the division. Probably about right but doesn’t account for the fact we are probably also the most error prone team in the league. If we cut out the goals we gift opposition we’ll make a run into playoffs.

Curiously Grimsby are by far the worst team on XG.
People have been saying that about us all season. XG is obviously an indicator of a small part of a team, however there's so much more that it doesn't tell. Way too much focus is put onto it, in my opinion.

Do we have a mid table thread for Swindon, Grimsby, Crewe and Oldham fans to pretend they are relevant this season?

Are Exeter serial bottlers, or is Tisdale a serial bottler? Be interesting if we get them at Wembley.

There is a mid table thread, the Carlisle fans are pissed of that they’re not in it this season.

Think the current top 8 will be those who finish in the top 8, nobody else is decent enough or consistent enough. I'm sure the likes of Grimsby, Tranmere, Swindon and Oldham all like to think they have a chance and are full of optimism, and who can blame them? But realistically they haven't got a chance.

There are 42 points to be gained for most teams.

I concur that Grimsby, Tranmere, Swindon and Oldham are all more likely to contend for the mid-table prize than the play-offs, but whilst there is a chance one or more of those clubs may put together a run and get into the play-offs I'm sure we are all allowed to be of the mindset that we still have a chance to compete. Its not like there are particularly amazing sides in the top 8, Lincoln, Mansfield and Bury appear to be on their own 'plateau' but the teams from 4 down to 15 is pretty much of a muchness really.

It would be quite amusing if Exeter were to miss out given your cocky persona.

I know right? Unlike Swindon, who last season were in a play-off spot until late February before bottling it and falling out and finishing 9th.

Or in 15-16 when they were out of a relegation spot in L1 until early February before dropping into the bottom 4 and never leaving.

Or in 14-15 when they were in a real hunt for a top 3 spot until early February, before going on to only win 6 of their last 17 games and having to settle for a play-off spot. And then no-showing in the final against PNE, after almost blowing a 5-1 aggregate lead against Sheffield United in the semi-final 2nd leg.

Or in 13-14, when they were in a play-off spot heading into the final 2 games of the season, only to lose both and finish 8th.

Or in 12-13, when they were in real contention for a L1 automatic spot until late March, only to win 2 of their last 8 games and have to settle for a play-off spot. And in those play-offs, they blew a 1-0 lead in the first leg by conceding a 90th minute penalty. And in the return leg, they fought from 2-0 and 3-1 down to draw on aggregate, only to bottle the shoot-out.

But do tell me more about how Exeter are serial bottlers.

A very pleasant trip down memory lane, or should that be mammory lane, as we made such a tit of it?

One side out of the top 8 will miss out and it may well be us. But that's not because bloody Swindon or Grimsby overtake us

Ok, glad that's sorted.

Any idea what's happening with Brexit, or this weekend's lottery numbers?
Brexit? Yeah mate, leaving the EU in 1041 hours (1040 hours in 24 mins)

Lotto numbers? No thanks. That'll mean I have to split the winnings with you.

It's only an outside chance though, 1st to 15th could be anywhere? More like 4th to 8th with possibilities of maybe only Tranmere and Oldham sneaking in.
I think any team within 6pts of the playoffs with still almost a third of the season to go has more than a sneaky chance of making it. We win our game in hand for instance (Morecambe @ home) and we're just 3 behind with a comparable GD.

There's fucking ages to go yet before we can start writing off a number of team outside 7th place.

It's never just about winning a game or two though, it's consistency, which few contenders currently in mid-table have. I can see one or two of that group getting within sniffing distance of the play-offs, but they then have to kick on, and so far this season none of them have really done that. Only Oldham I think, who are in a good place in the league and have a new manager might really do something serious from where they are.

The five teams above them have shown more consistency, even if they sometimes look poor and/or lose to teams below them, it's not been as often and they've bounced back more often.

I stick by my view that Swindon, Oldham, Crewe, Grimsby, Stevenage and Tranmere are play-off outsiders. I don't know why people seem to think that's the same as saying they've no chance, or the same as saying there are only five teams in playoff contention. Taken together, six outsiders means there's a reasonable chance of one of them making the playoffs ahead of the more concrete looking five, and I wouldn't really be surprised if one or more of them finish above Carlisle, but I won't be putting any money on any of them.

I can’t see you guys making the play offs based on the games against us, lucky to get a 0-0 at Blundell Park and lucky to only lose 2-1 to us at your place as we really should’ve scored a 3rd one to make it safe but we were a bit wasteful in front of goal that day.

Lose a game or two and you’ll disappear from the forum like last time.

Neither does third. And win our next 2 games we'll be joint third irrespective of other results.
How'd you work that one out? Just because you're playing Bury, doesn't mean one of Colchester, MKD or Carlisle can't drop points. Unless I'm missing something?

We're playing MKD
Yeah I know, hence why I said one of Colchester, MKD or Carlisle. If you beat MKD and then Colchester, Exeter can't be third as far as I can tell?

Also, Bury have got Oldham on 23rd which can stop Exeter moving into 3rd. Unless Exeter have a game on 19th which I don't know about, there seems to several ways to stop Exeter being 3rd in 2 games time.

I said next 2 games not 1 game. Thought we was playing our game in hand Tuesday but it seems to be a week on Tuesday. Obviously if we played this weekend and then our game in hand then it doesn't matter what the teams around us do?
