It's the hotel in Mansfield bit that amuses me.
The town has been begging fucking Travelodge for years to get in Mansfield. Not even Premier Inn, Travelodge. If the lowest end budget hotel chain can't see their way to finding a market for even a budget hotel I'm not sure why Radford thinks going in with Hilton is a good idea. That's probably why the council have repeatedly given him the cold shoulder. Conversely, Chesterfield has 2 Premier Inns with a 3rd starting construction in the town centre next week and a 4th in the pipeline near the train station. That's the difference between the 2 towns right there. It's lovely that Radford is trying but you can't help but think he's just slapping a bit of lipstick on a pig. In fact, he seems keen on that doesn't he

Right. So just gloss over how our club is on an upward curve and moving in the right direction and you've a chairman robbing you blind and bottom of the league and focus on laughing at a hotel.

Cool.

Cool.

He isn't 'robbing' anyone. He's overseen incompetence which is something completely different. We've had both.

Almost as classy as running a charity match for a certain hero of both football clubs then not declaring the attendance or handing over the money to the family before the local paper has to get involved.

The point about the hotel is kind of relevant. Who is going to stay in it? Genuine questions, the links to the town are poor, whee as Chesterfield as a location is fairly decent for business / corporate events hence why there is hotels and more planned and the hospitality side at the ground and Casa do so well.

Mansfield as a town is still a dump, albeit improving like Chesterfield which has seen a fair bit of investment recently, although most of this has been in and around the town which has turned the town centre into an interesting place. Just don't think it is viable

The hotel will be more than viable when we are in the Premier League. Mourinho & co will need somewhere to stay.

Chesterfield is still a dump.

Nobody is going to chuck a hotel in the town if they don’t think anybody is going to stay at it.

A town the size of Mansfield obviously needs a chain hotel, not sure about two but that’s what it’s getting.

I think it's a case of MDC finally waking up.

It makes sense for the town to have a decent hotel, if someone from a company was staying where would they go, same goes if a company wished to set up and we're looking round, where would they go? Provide the faculties and the business and people will hopefully come.

Whether JR decides to carry on with his own hotel remains to be seen, whereas there's the need for one, I can't see why you'd have 2. Also with the new MP in town after that scrote meale the last thing we want to do is piss him off and get on the wrong side of him.

I applaud the ambition and forward thinking of all involved, it's the right mentality to have.

The thing is, I know for a fact that the powers that be at Mansfield have been begging Travelodge cap in hand for years to go into the town and the answer has been 'yea.... no thanks', whereas other towns and cities are batting budget chains away. There's no market, these companies to an incredible amount of research into new locations for their hotels. In all seriousness, as well as the town centre being a hellhole, the transport links are just awful. It makes no sense for anyone to go to Mansfield unless they live there. It's not on the mainline for trains, the road links to the motorway are horrible. It's not close enough to the Peak District to make it a base for that. You'd just stay somewhere else. There's nothing nice in the centre. You need nice bars and restaurants in centre now and I went the other month and other than that new bar Capo Lounge which was OK, there was nowhere; a lot of the shops were empty or had low quality occupants, there was scagheads everywhere with 3 teeth between them. It just had an awful vibe. I'm not sure what the solution is. The only reason JR is talking up a hotel next to the ground is because the council passed him up for that new on on the car park in favour of another bidder and he's trying to save face.

Chesterfield is still a dump.

Not sure why i'm getting involved in this playground stuff but whatever.

Chesterfield isn't a dump at all. Granted, it isn't Monte Carlo but there's plenty of far bigger shit holes out there in the UK. It has it's rough areas, but what towns don't? Honestly, being in Mansfield the other week really did make appreciate the fact it could be worse......a lot worse.

Anyway, football......

Mansfield is a absolute dive and Chesterfield is not much better, I spend more time in Chesterfield admitally but still.

The Council has been the main stumbling block to getting a hotel to the town, not the fact there is not a market for one, if that theory was correct two would not be in the pipeline, simple enough really,

This is just not true though. Why would they want to stop regeneration and development? What's in it for them?

That's rubbish. The council should be fully behind anything that would encourage people to visit the town.

And Chesterfield is 10x the town Mansfield is, hence why it has seen 10x the investment over the last 10 years

Right boys and girls, we're going round in circles here and it'll probably just get closed by the mods.

Shall we draw a line under the sand, you need to concentrate on avoiding relegation anyway.

You think Mansfield been neglected because it’s already a shithole? I don’t understand the logic.

Chesterfield is not 10x anything, you need to get around a bit, leave your little cul de sac and see new place.

I’d suggest looking in to the MDC council too, the only thing they have interest in building is car parks.

2X not 10X

I’m in the hotel industry, I valued the Casa hotel. It’s been a big success, I can’t see it being repeated in Mansfield. IMEO in needs a travelodge and nothing else

it was voted in trip advisor top 5 in the UK for a long while that was. Proper hotel that. Once stopped in one of the executive suites with our girt when I had a good win. Jacuzzi, steam room ont balc, spa bath and rain shower, fresh milk int fridge, coffee maker in your room and take away cups to make to go. Bed was massive and proper comfy. The room was the size of like 3 normal rooms. Best hotel room I'll ever stay in and no doubt. Good restaurant and bar too

It’s nice but it’s not that good buddy lol. You need to visit some better hotels maybe outside of north Derbyshire

did you stay in a standard room?

I've probably stayed in a nicer hotel (the valamar in dubrovnik was unreal), but not a nicer room. Probably never will without a lottery win. those 2 rooms (dali and miro) are next level.

I've not lived in Chesterfield for 8 years but hey ho and in that time i've lived all over the world and the UK so i've seen plenty to see Mansfield isn't a particularly nice town.

That says more about the council more than anything though. Generally people aren't attracted to shitholes, hence why they are neglected. There's a reason the Hilton haven't stuck a hotel in Moss side or Birdholme
