It's not saying a great deal, but I'm probably more invested in this season's over-arching storyline than I have been at any point during the show's run. Still does self-contained episodic storytelling best, though.

I've just finally got around to reading issue 100 of the comic books.

Massive spoilers ahead, obviously. Don't click it if you've not read the comics. Really. Don't.

Holy fuck. That was about the most interesting issue since the attack on the prison.

Still, while I like Glen and everything, I'm glad that it's over. A long, long time ago I saw that his death was coming, and if I do ever happen to come across spoilers like that I prefer it if the spoiler just happens as soon as possible and then I can get back on reading it without just waiting for that one event to come. Still, fuckin' brutal way for him to go, though.

I like this whole deal with Negans group though. I have felt that the series has been a little lost since the prison stuff really (there has been some cool shit, but it's mostly felt like filler since that time), this looks like the real shot in the arm the book needed to get back to its best.

Good episode I thought. Knew Rick was going to say something like that at the end.

I'm an idiot because I didn't even realise what Carol was doing in her interview, in deceiving them, until I saw someone mention it on another forum.

This is kind of similar to the initial Governor storyline (there's only a limited amount of stuff you can do in a Zombie apocalypse TV show) but this time it will hopefully be a lot better because 1) the show seems to be ran better now and 2) the plot won't be based around that annoying woman who I've completely forgotten the name of, but through Rick, Darryl, Carol and Glenn.

I've guessed that the episode is just a chance to gain whatever humanity they have left back. As Glen said in the interview "We've spent too long out there", or similar to that. The show would be rubbish if they lost all of their humanity, so I'm guessing they gain it back before zombies overrun them or something.

good episode. i liked the use of the one-to-one interviews they kept doing. the interesting thing for me is who is acting worse here? the woman seems quite nice and genuine. arron went out of his way to make them safe. yeah that guy head of security gut is a prick but we can all see he was a jock a mile off. but now you've got rick planning to overturn this new town if things fall down. it's an interesting dynamic.

i actually feel the series would do good for a few episodes being without zombie attacks. like last night watching it, i felt 'oh it's 30 mins in and there's been no zombies, it's coming soon', and it did in a kind of pointless way with rick & carl just beasting some random zombies outside. i'd rather have no zombie attacks than random, pointless zombie attacks. play up the differing opinions of the crew more to their new surroundings. what does abraham think? what does maggie think?

the carol stuff is bloody fantastic. i'm the same, i didn't get it watching it. but then i read on a review about how she was acting like a stepford wife to deceive them to politic herself into a better job and position. brilliant. that's a much more realistic way to use bad-ass carol than 'blow up a huge building with a bazooka' carol

The thing is though that Rick knows they could well be listening in cos they have/had equipment to do so when they were on the road. You surely wouldn't be so naïve to assume that the only one they had was in that car they lost, so you wouldn't openly say what he said, just in case.
There's obviously a few tossers in there to stir things up. The 'MY wife cut yer hair' guy fits into the wife beater don't look at my woman role, but maybe that's to throw you off a bit. And then there's the tosser son who wants to give it the big 'un whose ego is now bruised.
With Rick now being constable though, will he be able to carry a gun inside the city walls?
And what's going to happen if he has to deal with someone? Exile? There's no prison, so exiling the woman's son could be something that kicks it all off.
She didn't say why they exiled the three men yet though. Just that they didn't work out.

Another thing about the interview is that Rick says people want to exploit your weakness and use it for their own ends, all the while not seeming to come to the realisation that that's what's happening to him. She (or their community) are making Rick feel like he did before all the zombies. Getting him cleaned up so he looks like he did before it all kicked off. He's now in the same job he did before it all happened. They're making him comfortable, presumably up to the point where he can be exploited or he thinks they're weaker than him.

Or of course, they could all be good guys.

But not Rick.

I think the main thing with this week's episode is that it feels like it's taking a brand new turn. It's brilliant that it's not set in stone what is going to happen, and there's no white or black, it seems to be more grey. They're asking the audience to make up their own minds about how they feel about each group, and I do like that.

Definitely looking forward to the next episode!

Did anyone notice that those zombie heads from the other episode had 'W' inscribed in them? I think that's the mark of another group of survivors, and it's this group of survivors that Alexandria needs help in defeating.

Poor Buttons. :( Also Rick continues to turn more and more like Shane/The Governor with each episode.

I really don't think that the comic can be that much of a reliable source for spoilers for the show. I tend to think of them as two separate entities now.

I tend to read it in batches, as I hate going issue by issue as and when they come out, so my scale of time is kind of out of whack. How far into the whole Negan stuff is issue 100? I remember saying in the old thread that the TV programme needs to hurry up and get him involved.

Have you met Ezekiel yet? Pretty sure he isn't going to be in the show, or if he is then his companion won't be!

Also, hurry up and get up to date!

Issue 100 is the one where Negan first appears, where he beats Glen to death. There's a fair bit between where the show is now and Negan showing up, so I don't really see him showing up this season... but the show has been known to speed through stuff before, so I guess there is still a slight chance of him being in it this season.

I'm not really sure where this season will end though. Perhaps with that zombie attack on Alexandria, the one where that woman Rick is banging and her son get killed. Either that or it will actually be a case of speeding through to Negan... nothing else really big happens, from what I can remember. Of course they could just invent some shit and add it in like they usually seem to, who knows.

Actually, just looking it up.... there are only 3 episodes left of this season. And the finale is called "Conquer". I reckon that this season will end with Ricks lot trying to take over Alexandria...

And then season 6... mid season finale; zombie attack... season finale; issue 100 stuff with Negan first showing up, whacking Glen, pretty much making Ricks group his bitch.

Just seen that the spin off series has been ordered for two series'. The first series is meant to be the same set-up as the first series of TWD with six hour long episodes.

A couple of the most gruesome deaths ever seen on this show and that's saying something.

Yeah I enjoyed it. I think that if we hadn't had the previous two episodes it wouldn't have set this one up as well as it did.

Agree with what's been said, very good episode.

Fuck me those were some gruesome deaths, especially the way Noah ( ) got flung against the window before getting his face ripped off, it was like something out of an 80's horror flick. Aiden was coming across as less of a prick this episode too. Kind of predictable that the show makes you start liking somebody before killing them off but there you are.

Gabriel is a little ungrateful prick, looking forward to him getting killed.

One of the most gruesome Walking Dead episodes I've ever watched (im thinking back through other episodes & I really can't remember a more gory one).

I think the violence was really tuned up a notch tonight on purpose. If you think of this, we as the viewer are being treated the same as the people of Alexandria. We have had 3 episodes of good story-telling that have been pretty harmless to be fair, and it's kind of maybe made some of us viewers forget how grim & bloody the programme can actually get (similar to the way that the people of Alexandria have been blunted from the dangerous outside world by being safe behind steel fences for so long). And then you get this episode, absolutely brutal. And it seems even more brutal because this kind of shit hasn't happened for a while.

Saddler has it absolutely dead on. Without the last few episodes of relatively calm build up, this episode doesn't seem as awesome as it actually was. If you give the audience constant gore, it gets bored by it. And the gore is the main treat of the show. Do that all the time & the show has nothing special. But give it in small doses and it just frickin works. Series 2 was kind of trying this but the only difference was that the story telling in the relative calm between the gore was SO BORING. Series 5 has absolutely stepped up because it's introducing new dynamics on a regular basis to keep the viewer involved, not spending an hour listening to Dale moan about Shane.

it made me laugh that Dale's last acts were having an absolute paddy in a big team debate, walking out moaning and grumbling to himself & getting eaten alive.

fuck dale.

Last night's episode was really good. We've deserved some deaths after the last couple of episodes which have been pretty slow. I was hoping Glen would execute what's his face for feeding Everybody Hates Chris to the walkers.

I get so angry when people do stupid shit though. It's obvious that the way to kill a walker in armour is to go under the helmet and stab it in the face. Why would you keep shooting its legs?

Liking that Eugene is starting to become a bit tougher. I hope that Rick's group offer an ultimatum to Alexandria, either let us take power and join us or we'll kill/exile you. The folk at Alexandria appear pathetically weak compared to Rick's group.

I should imagine in the next episode it may kick off cos with Aiden dead, that cowardly fanny might talk some bullshit about the group killing him in order to hide his shame, and she'll be inclined to believe it now that a seed of doubt has been placed.
