Still waiting for our season to get going we face Orient to find out whose wyverns are top.

I was starting to worry that we were dropping off the early pace, but looking at it another way, but for our inability to carve out a late winner against Accrington, we would be second in the table, so it's still close. It's good to have another home game to get the fans behind us and get our strikers scoring... will Jabo move up a gear against his first club? Or will we go with Miller or Wyke?

Orient are level on points with us, but looking at their season so far I guess it's a case of which Orient turn up, whereas we probably feel we know which Carlisle will turn up.

We have a cracking record against Carlisle in recent years, considering how consistently awful we were against you in the Scott Dobie years. Even in last season's home loss we played you off the park. Should be an entertaining battle of wingers, even without Coxy (sob).

6-0 Carlisle.

I remember I used to always make reference in these threads to the run of big results. That died off last season with a draw and narrow win to us, but prior to that, when we were both in League One, it went

4-0 Orient
5-1 Orient
4-1 Orient
4-1 Orient
4-1 Carlisle

Also I remember well the day back in 2002 we beat you 6-1. That was back when we were shocking and had the newspaper clipping from that match on my wall in my student accommodation.

EDIT - just checked the bag where I keep all my old programmes. I still have it

Ah yes. 5-0 down within 25 minutes if I recall correctly. We did draw the second half, though.

Should be a good game next weekend. Cox will be a big miss for Orient but they've got quality throughout their side, I hope Simpson doesn't return. Having said that, Palmer (I think) came on last season and made a positive impact.

It'd be nice if we can finally put away some of our chances and make the most of our dominance, but this'll be a tougher game than Cheltenham or Accrington.

I'd stick with the same team as yesterday except start Wyke ahead of Jabo. If Curle wants to play 4-4-2, it can't be Jabo and Wyke.

We should really be targeting 3 points after yesterday. I'll go 2-1.

That is the team I'd like to see, but I reckon it will be 4-4-2.

Simpson is likely to be out on Saturday, aiming for a return the week after. Lol, must be the only positive impact Palmer has ever made. The last home game against Mansfield was up there with one of the worst performances I've seen from an Orient player.

It's likely to be McCallum and Bowery upfront, although IMO the four key players for Orient are Parkes, Kelly, Massey and Cornick. If you can stop Kelly controlling the game and stop balls to Massey and Cornick I'd feel very confident of a Carlisle win.

3-1, Devitt, Ibehre, Gainger from a free kick. Bowery for Orient.

Carlisle to score 3 goals?:lol:

We've not scored more than 1 goal in any of our league games other than the 2 we scored against rock bottom Cambridge. As far as scoring goals go we are utterly shit. Our chance conversion rate must be the worst in the football league.

This is where it ends for us. The unbeaten run that is.

Because we're only capable of scoring 1 goal a game, we're relying on a clean sheet to have a chance of winning. I can't see Orient not scoring, in fact I think they'll score at least 2 which will be too much for our hopeless, embarrassing attack to match.

Carlisle 0-2 Orient

The goals WILL come, I'm confident of that. To counter your argument, we've kept 2 clean sheets and only conceded more than 1 in the league on one occasion. That must mean Orient aren't scoring two then?

We don't keep enough clean sheets, our backline is "still in development" so to speak. There will be goals in this I reckon.

Pompey aside, Orient are our toughest test so far. Plymouth had suffered a poor start when we played them.

This is why I think Orient will put at least 2 past us. I'm not so confident the goals will come on Saturday, Orient are a competent team and I can't see us creating the 10 chances we need to score 1 goal let alone the 20 chances we'll need to score 2.

Should be a good game this one, usually plenty of goals, although I'm dreading the journey, seems longer every year!

If Simpson plays I reckon we could nick this one by a goal, he does make a difference.
We weren't bad against Morecambe, but got lucky with the deflection to make it 2-1 so that win doesn't tell the whole story.

We've had a relatively easy start, and have a modest 10 points, I think Carlisle are our hardest test so far.

Orient seem resolute away from home and Carlisle are unbeaten, so everything points to 1-1 for me.

Jabo (obviously) and Bowery the scorers.

Carlisle 0-2 Orient

I think it's a bit too early in the season to say 'we're only capable of scoring 1 goal a game', just because out of six league games we've only scored two in one of them (and just conveniently ignoring the two and the five we scored in cup competitions).

If that's enough to say we definitely won't be scoring two then surely the fact we've scored in every game this season, league and cup is enough to say Orient definitely won't be keeping a clean sheet.

Or you know, you could be right and Orient could win 2-0 because anything could happen, but you seem a little too certain of your conclusions which have been drawn from fairly limited evidence.

Is this all the pessimism you were forced to bank last season when it was verboten?

I'm just sick of us spunking points away because our players can't score in a brothel. We've been saying "someone is due a hiding" for weeks now, but it's nearly a month since we wasted all them chances to put Plymouth to bed, yet still I don't see any improvement in that department. We still look as woeful in the final third as we did then, so no at the moment I don't think we're capable of scoring loads of goals.

We scored 2 in a cup game admittedly (but still wasted a shit load in that game too). That clown trophy doesn't even count, that competition is dead to me. Friendlies are more relevant.

The evidence I've got is what I've seen so far. Obviously I don't know for sure about something that hasn't happened yet, same with anything in football, but you can kind of guess based on previous matches and form.

The Checkatrade trophy may not matter to the fans, but if it matters to the players then it's still a reasonable test of performance (with the exception of when we play an U23 side)

Six matches is just too soon to be saying with such certainly that we definitely won't score more than one goal because we didn't in five of those six. We could also say based on the evidence of those six games we'll score in every game, and win a third of our matches and complete the season undefeated. If it's possible that we can get beaten, or draw a blank then it's also possible we can score enough to beat Orient.

This is easily our toughest test so far, we've actually plodded along in a steady fashion despite all the shit behind the scenes.

Still pissed off Cox has gone though because our idiot owner fucked the clubs wage bill up.

Our best performance of the season was our 3-0 win over Stevenage when Jay Simpson played (Shock horror), I get annoyed when Ollie Palmer starts, I've been saying it for ages and ages - when he is in the team our style of football isn't good or effective enough, launching it long into the channels for him to chase, or onto his head. He may work hard but his technical ability is shit, which means the ball doesn't stick up front. He is a useful impact sub though, but if we're aiming for the top Seven - He cannot be a starter.

I Would bring back Nigel Atangana for this one, need that steel in midfield and he has been playing very well.

Our defence is still shaky, like last season we don't keep many clean sheets. Tom Parkes has been really good for us though - Yvan Erichot is still settling into the club and the standard of football. Callum Kennedy will now get a run in the team with Cox gone - So Sandro Semedo can play further forward, where really he needs to be.

If I make it Saturday, it will be my 11th visit to Brunton Park since September 2005.

I'm afraid Lorient's wyverns are cooler than yours Shoddy. But that could be down to the promise I made to LOTAL a few weeks back. I can only say good things about LO this year, so I guess that includes wyverns too ;)

L'Orient's Wyverns look like shrimp with legs and wings.

many Leytonians making the trip up?

Define 'many'. I will be surprised if it's outside the 250-350 bracket.

The Terminator will be there, that's for sure. Occasional poster Dalendless Shid is also travelling up, but he's left his match ticket at home.

Our old school badge had a creature like that on it but is was always called a Griffin.

What's the difference.

Quite a big one. A wyvern is essentially a two-legged dragon, a griffin is a creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle.

However the coat of arms of Whitehaven features a white dragon, which for some reason the council describe as a griffin, so I think the term griffin has become corrupted with time.

The Terminator, Dalendless Shid and NolansOrient (although I have no idea who he is). So 3/5 (or 2/4 active posters).

Nolans appears to go to most games. Imagine from his posting that he could be one of the self-styled 'super fans' that were starting on other O's at Morecambe.

LOTAL and I are rare creatures indeed at Orient away games these days (him: work, me: family). If I beat last season's 'effort' of two, I'll be shocked.
