That's a complete fallacy tbf, Aldershot have played some really smexi stuff, as have Tranmere. Our problem was that we had completely the wrong players - the idea of Josh Coulson or Jake Caprice trying to pass accurately beyond three yards amuses me. Also I think it was a bit exaggerated that we tried to play passing football, everything about it was wrong. Our recruitment was poor for the style we wanted to play, quite simply.

The Chesterfield lads will have an 'oh shit' moment for sure, everyone does. This was ours http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40858600
You know what, I've just re-read what I wrote and I was talking shit with what I said, because you're right there's some good passing teams in this league and the best one are currently top.

What I should of said was Davis thought we could go gung ho against the so called weaker/smalller clubs and get away with it. The amount of times under Davis we would get caught on the counter attack committing men forward at will without thinking about the consequences drove me up the wall.

The most notable example was that second half away at Bromley when their quick front three tore us to shreds on the break with us throwing men forward at will.

Chesterfield will sign young manager Donny Cafferty from Scottish Junior League side Vale o' Strathglen, having steered them to three consecutive titles, the most recent one seeing them draw just three matches and lose one. He'll promise to bring attractive, quick, passing football back to the Proact Stadium, along with promotion and the FA Trophy.

Saturday 4th August
The Vision 2 – 2 Chesterfield
Fiesty encounter against a team that have recruited very well in close season, with the home side equalising in the 83rd minute and having a man sent off in extra time. New Eastleigh manager Martin Allen is unavailable for comment at full-time, with rumours abuzz that he was spotted driving up the M3 to Barnet.

Tuesday 7th August
Chesterfield 4 – 1 Halifax Town
The Spireites get things done early on by easily seeing off the newly full-time Shaymen. With scores level at 1–1 at half-time, James Norwood bags a quick brace before substitute Reece Styche caps off the scoring with a superb solo effort. The Non-League Paper throws up an article in which several managers including "FC Halifax" gaffer Jamie Fullarton tip Chesterfield for the title.

Saturday 11th August
Chesterfield 0 – 3 Hampton & Richmond Borough
A televised match taking place at 12:30pm with 17 Hampton fans in the away end following their previous two drubbings, the Beavers open up the scoring within the first few minutes through an ex-Whitehawk recruit. Two further goals from Delano Sam-Yorke before the break make the second half a grim affair with a toxic atmosphere as Hampton repeatedly pass it around their back four. Spireites take to social media, screaming for Cafferty's head after losing to a "tinpot outfit named after a fucking pack of fags". Reece Styche mocks his own fans on Twitter and isn't seen at training on Monday.

Tuesday 14th August
Tranmere Rovers 1 – 0 Chesterfield
Early BELT derby in which a Prenton Park crowd, still subdued after losing to Boreham Wood in the playoffs, enjoy a late Cook winner to condemn Chesterfield to a second successive loss. Several hundred Spireites in the away end watch Norwood get crocked and stretchered off by one of his old teammates. No sign of Reece Styche.

Saturday 18th August
Chesterfield 0 – 0 Maidstone
Styche is confirmed to have left the club shortly before the game with a young Rotherham loanee and Motherwell defender coming in, much to the ire of the home side who watch a drab encounter against a team who only just survived the previous season. The agony of not seeing their team score in three games is compounded when former Halifax winger Josh Macdonald rounds the Stones keeper before hitting it high and wide, an opportunity "Even Styche could've finished". A hastily put together press release emerges at 8:03pm claiming that Cafferty has left the club to return to his hometown of Murraybridge, where Vale o' Strathglen are based.

As if Norwood would leave us for Chesterfield.

The rest of it is entirely plausible though.

Probably the most important thing that Chesterfield need to pack with them to hell is their Football League Brotherhood membership. This is given to all former 'proper' football clubs who have spent the main part of their history as an established football league club. Reformed former FL sides and teams relegated here more than once also do not qualify for this exclusive package.

Now you may ask, 'what's in it for my club?' Well, you get respect and sympathy from proper club supporters when you get dicked at home by a team you'd never heard of or previously thought were an insurance company. Previous animosities are put aside and you are referred to in fond terms when discussing memories of FL games in times gone by. The clubs meet before real games and fix the results in an attempt to put the natural order errr in order. There are many other benefits which I'm sure Master D (who's been brotherhood president for more than 10 years) can outline. 10 years service qualifies for lifelong membership. If you get promoted, you hand back your membership card.

The procedure is easy. Simply print off this card and hand it in to the nearest Vanarama dealer at the conclusion of the season.

The board urged Cafferty to come in with an offer that gave Tranmere enough moolah to take their pick of League Two's forwards. Norwood arrived at the Proact within two hours and told the press how much he buys into Cafferty's ethos, claiming "we hit it off immediately".

Wonderful discussion and one I could have all day. Music to my..eyes.

Rules are rules, it's not the original Halifax. You can form your own Brotherhood of Reformed Proper Clubs if you wish. Chester & Darlington also eligible.

York and Torquay are important members of the historical Brotherhood by the way. They shall not be forgotten.

But Oh Master (Chairman), whilst I do agree that York and Torquay are proper clubs and brothers. Does their inclusion not contravene article 89456 in the Brotherhood charter which states 'proper clubs who are relegated from paradise twice for their sins shall be deemed brothers no longer' ? Although, as a Hartlepool United fan and an associate member of the brotherhood with a mere 11 months service, I bow down to your final command.

That article would also disqualify Halifax, and also Lincoln for that matter...

York and Torquay have Proper Club status due to a long history in the promised land. Membership stands. Both were awarded emeritus Brotherhood status until such time that total seasons spent below League 2 exceed that of seasons in and above that level.

Tranmere fans... Chesterfield have lost at Dartford before - to us, but whatever.

Looks like we'll be here next year, so enjoy the plastic pitch and feel free to whine and bitch about it as much as everyone else - despite taking the points home like everyone else...

I was born in Maidstone so that is one away game I will make.

Lincoln handed their membership card over to us this season. Upon return to paradise, your membership is null and void but you can maintain observer status.

Wow that's post is eerily familiar to our first season down here, won at Crawley then drew v York (2 of the promotion favourites), thinking to myself this league will be a walk in the park, then lose at home to Hayes and Yeading (you even got the 17 away fans spot on) and next game a 4-1 tonking at Rushden and Diamonds. Lovely.

I think we did the other week when Darlo on Tour's alter ego said you didn't go bust but the way he explained it meant that you did.

If a club suddenly appears about 17 divisions down from the Football League under a new name, with new accounts and in a different stadium it just isn’t the ‘same’ club.

Agree with Orient and 'Pool's comments r.e. the manager.

First thing Chesterfield need to do is get rid of Lester. Sounds harsh, and I'm sure it'd not go down too well, but he's obviously a manager who prefers tippy tappy football with short, technical players. That won't wash down here. You'll get set pieced to death. It looks like he's tried to go down the idealistic U23 route at Chesterfield since he's been there.

Yep, they're all essential. You're fully entitled to win the first ten in a row to cement that top place from the start, but you end up with entertaining draws against teams that "will be up there", convincingly thrashing a few bogstandard sides, before quickly collapsing by putting together a classic Conference-strugglers run of form.

All BELTs that come down here need to suffer to understand what it's like for us. Three seasons is optimal. They're suitably humbled, and it's still a draw to play them. Four seasons or more and you start feeling sorry for them. They've learnt their lesson.

One season is just not right at all. We were all hopeful when the Gas lost at Altrincham mid-August but they kicked on, and I don't think Cheltenham were even troubled by us knaves, even though they're not a classic BELT.

We're running out of clubs this can happen to for the first time. Crewe, Port Vale, Northampton and Notts County would be good opposition if they wanted to get all tinpot up in here. We need to make the most of it when it's finally their turn.

Surely we have to expel (and delete all mention of) FC Halifax from the Brotherhood. They've only been going 10 years or so and haver never appeared in the Football League and surely that is a strict prerequisite of membership. (insertthatfuckingannoyingbanana)

As Master D is a member of the Chief Executive Board of The Brotherhood he must take the above fact into account when drawing up the Compulsory Expulsion Order which should be delivered to BJFT2 in person next time he visits a Brotherhood-member’s ground.

There’s some truth in what you say. I hope he realises there’s other ways to play if necessary but if we have the right players I don’t believe it’s impossible to escape playing any style you want.
