Joselu to Newcastle is surely the least inspiring Premier League signing of the entire transfer window.

indeed. we're supposedly after michal pazdan as well to cover for lejeune who, as we all saw, was maimed by england's poster boy, harry "not that sort of player" kane.

we can't even stretch to £13mil for perez. ashley is a cunt.

Well apparently they'll be going all out now for Bony, Chadli and Allen. So who knows?

Maxi Gradel is going on a season long loan to Toulouse, unlikely to return. It's not quite worked out for him here since his ACL injury, he hasn't been getting the game time he wants. But he remains a genuine creative talent with something a bit different about him, and his departure will leave us lighter on flair and creative options. It'll mean more prominence for Ibe I guess. Or maybe a slot in the squad for a bit of last minute shopping if something comes up?

Sigurdsson for £45m is surely a new level of madness even in these mad times. Has he actually improved since Spurs let him go a few years back? I can't see him lighting any fires at Everton.

If Swansea lose sigurdsson then I don't think they'll stay up

Sigurdsson is quality. Not the sort of player who's level is going to drop off dramatically as he gets older either, as he's not overly reliant on physical attributes. Worth noting Pochettino has regrets about letting him leave Spurs as well.

Cedric now being linked with Chelsea as well as VvD.

36 year old Gareth Barry signs for West Brom. Inspiring stuff.

I read yesterday he's 5 appearances away from breaking Giggs' PL record. Get inspired.

Our chairman has once again today told the media that VvD is not for sale in this window. Could be an interesting partnership him and Hoedt.

Our chairman has once again today told the media that VvD is not for sale in this window. Could be an interesting partnership him and Hoedt.
I was going to say "what else would he say" until I actually read the statement:

“Virgil is not for sale in this window and it’s not personal,” the chairman said, just days after the Gao family bought an 80 per cent stake in the club.

“It’s not about him, it’s about an overall much, much, much bigger picture – a change of course for Southampton.

“The first summer I was here five players went out and six went in, not counting academy.

“Second summer three went out, seven came in, and third summer five went out, five came in.

“Now it is one out and two in, and this is who we want to become.

“We want to mature, we want to be a team that can profit from synergies that create a much more attractive football and a better product for the fans, and gives us a chance to get back into Europe.

“That’s one player in this whole equation of 25 and it is the visible one, but for us it’s the principle and it’s the path and it’s the statement we need to make to get to a new space as a club.

“We are very, very adamant about carrying this through.

“The new partnership has completely and wholly backed our strategy and plan and on September 1 people will see how serious we were and are.”

You would look like absolute mugs if you sold him now.

Inflated price right there. Not saying its overpriced though, just that while De Vrij had still not signed a new contract a couple of clubs enquired on Hoedt, including ourselves, and the figure was supposedly around the 7.8mill mark. De Vrij still hasn't signed a new deal as far as I'm aware so they may not let Hoedt go, or it may be the reason they want 15mill.
15mill should easily get him otherwise.

Not Premier League as such but it looks like Juventus are signing Matuidi from PSG for £18 million!

18 million!!!!

I know he's 30 but really......in this crazy market....he only goes for £18 million. And he'll suit Serie A to a tee.

It would be a decent start for the new owners and hopefully VvD stops being a c*** and accepts it asap.

I might be being naive, but I think the power is with us for once on this one. Still got five years on his contract (ha) and can't afford to not put in a decent shift in a World Cup year. Next summer will probably be different.

We're in the same boat with Coutinho; will probably still head off though. I'm with you though that if both players stay at their current clubs, then they can't afford not to knuckle down as they will want to be in those World Cup squads, particularly Coutinho as I personally make Brazil favourites next year, and he wouldn't want to miss out on a real shot at winning it.

Well there's a dramatic change of opinion!

Going to be a man of your word and kick the whisky if he does move?

That seems like the most unfair thing you could ask of Salts. Cope with losing your favourite player by packing up the drink?
That's cold.
