Shot stopping should be a given but a keeper that doesn't command their area just invites unnecessary pressure, so annoying.

Crazy that Lonergan has never dropped below the Champ when he has nothing but good reaction stops in his locker.

Pickford, Nash & Johnstone are the best I've seen for us. That order.

Jones confirmed we are in for this Belgian keeper from Eupen, so let’s see what comes of that. Been called up for the Belgian squad recently, albeit as the 3rd choice, so I’d be surprised if we are the only ones taking a look. Keeper definitely needed for us but interesting he is looking to use his links to Belgium.

Also confirmed that we have missed out on Willis from Coventry who has gone and signed for Sunderland. Bit of a shame as we could do with a pacey centre half.

Apparently we were never in for Kelly who went to Feyenoord though, so at least there’s that. Overall seemed pretty aware we are bit short at the moment.
We're not the only club in for him apparently. I guess at least one is a bigger stature club in Belgium, but we're finding it tough to attract players in general. I did hear a whisper yesterday that LuaLua wanted £12k a week to stay at Luton.

We need at least 3 more signings in my opinion and to get rid of a few...
GK - as above.
RB - to replace Jack Stacey
FW - to replace Kazenga Lua-Lua

QPR bid £250k for Judge, immediately rebuffed and told not for sale at any price. :dis::lol:

He's not anywhere this summer as Evans know it would be an absolute shitstorm with fans after preseason PR (plus he only signed 2yr deal in Jan), but that bid is hilarious.

We may have another £4m shortfall to plug this year up from £5m last year- and we won't be flashing the cash by any means - but we are owned by Marcus Evans who's worth £900m.

I think it just proves the disdain L1 clubs are looked at by Championship clubs in terms of transfer fees. I guarantee we wouldn't have got £12m of bids for Justin/Stacey if we didn't get promoted last year.

Scott Hogan linked. Seems to have gone off the boil a bit at villa and made of biscuits? Was good a couple of years back for Brentford and we do need a striker.

Osborn to Sheffield United looks like it’s about to happen. Best for both parties now, just hope we get a decent fee

Once again, we are being linked with Neal Maupay.

Random thought this but the parallels between Flint and Jansson leaving us and Leeds are scary. Both cult heroes at our respective clubs forced out by the manager and replaced with a modern CB, I wonder if it’ll work for Leeds like it has for us...

Jamal Lowe signing for Wigan this week for £3m. Very smart signing.

Ben Amos signed on a one year deal with an option of another year.

Good competition for Phillips, happy with that.

Unless he’s coming quite cheaply, and they aren’t paying all of his wages, I’d say that’s a bad deal.

Would much rather spend £2-3m on a more unproven guy with upside.

That doesn't fit North End's philosophy at all and would be obscenely expensive if it were true JJH not that I doubt the rumour. It seems to be totally against the way PNE do things.

Nugent and Hugill would be a pair of odd signings that I didn't expect Preston to be involved with at the start of the summer mate.

I don't think Hugill would be an odd signing at all for us. He fits the mould perfectly for how Alex Neil wants his front man to play. I'd like this to be true but I just can't see how we'd make it work fee and wages wise.

I do, for the amount you'd pay for him and the wages you'd be covering I think you could buy a lot smarter than Hugill.

Sorry Leyland, I made my point badly.
As JJH says, Hugill would undoubtedly fit your style of play but, financially, it's just not the PNE way and so far removed from your normal policy of buy relatively cheap, improve and sell on / benefit from.
Hugill will most certainly not be cheap fee wise and on wages which would be miles above anything your current squad are earning, I should think.
Decent signing, most certainly but not one I would have imagined yourselves making with all possible respect.

Not sure it’s done yet, think we’re still haggling over the fee. But it’d be a good signing, albeit probably overpriced.

It's not a signing I could see us making either and not sure we will. It does go completely against every other signing we normally make, if it was to happen then West Ham would have to be giving Hugill some kind of pay off to boost his wages.

Alex Neil did say though at the start of the summer that he wanted to move away from our normal strategy as he feels we needed more experience.

Edit: It also wouldn't suprise me with North End if it was all a stunt to make it look like we're doing something. Agree a record fee but then offer 5k a week in wages, then tell everybody we tried but can't compete.

The thing with wages, and I stand to be corrected but think I'm right, is this:

If a player does not ask for a transfer, and moves to a club offering lower wages than he is currently on, the club he is leaving are duty bound to pay the difference for the remainder of his contract with THEM.
In Hugill's case, for example, say he's on £50k a week and you offered him £15K, plus he had 3 years left on his contract with West Ham, either West Ham have to come to a deal with Hugill or they pay him £35K a week for the remaining 3 years of his contract with West ham, even though he would be your player.
It could happen I suppose and would be, in our case, the only way we could afford someone like Assombalonga as we won't pay the daft wages some will pay, similarly to North end.
What's the benefit to the selling club though? That's what I don't get.

I don’t think that is “a rule”, but it is common practice when the selling club is desperate to get some of the wages off the books. (If it was a rule then Minimum Fee Release Clauses wouldn’t work)

Yes I think you're right, which would suggest we're the only club in for him because excluding the 3 promoted teams I'd say we're probably the lowest paying in the division.

The only thing I can think is that maybe we've come to some kind of agreement to wipe any future payments owed to us by West Ham. That goes completely against what Ridsdale said at a fans forum though, that West Ham had paid the fee in full.

Fulham sniffing around O’Dowda. Sessegnon to O’Dowda would be a bit of a shock for their fans.
As reported by ReluctantJJH back in May

Rumoured to have signed Sam Byram for £750k

Keep him fit and that’s a steal. Worry he won’t stay fit though!

Kind of glad we didn't compete with Sunderland for Willis. They are paying him £10k a week...

Luton have made a bid of ~£1.5m (or up to 2m EUR) for Simon Sluga from Rijeka. He made his debut for the Croatian national senior team a few weeks ago. That would smash our club record and the first time we've ever spent £1m on any one player.

According to Croatian media, Sheffield United, Norwich and Derby also have made enquiries.

Ha, as if people think we'd pay £3m for Hugill.

Only way that would happen is if West Ham agreed to pay £27k a week for the next three years while, we pay £10k. They're a stupid club but who would go for that?

He'd clearly be a good addition though, perfect for the system, Neil likes him and knows how to get the best out of him. Only way he's coming back here is on loan though.

I don't see any better options out there.
