It is my contention that all electronic/dance music sub genres exist on a giant overlapping fugue-like sine wave of critical derision followed by rehabilitation followed by etc.

Trip hop surely dwells at the very darkest pits of one of those oubliettes at present.

Which is to say if one could buy stock in a genre to be repaid when the "INSERT GENRE: A RE-EVALUATION" pieces start rolling off the presses at Pitchfork, and the influenced-by next-gen good-hair bands start releasing their hot new name checking debut EPs, I would surely do so.

Talking of re-evaluation, I happened to listen to "Protection" the other day for the first time in 20 years maybe, and I reached the conclusion that it sounded better when I was much younger, and stoned, 20 years ago.

As did this:

Quite - whenever someone (called Ian, perhaps, to pick a name entirely at random) starts off on a rhapsody to THC as the sacred key to higher planes of musical appreciation I just point them in the direction of that regrettable mid/late 90s Ninja Tune dominated part of my record collection.

Good albums. I guess they are albums for smoking weed.

Goldie has basically told everyone today that Del Naja is indeed Banksy.

Legend status cemented then. :)

I love Portishead and Massive Attack! Trip Hop is very good but my favourite band is The Cure!
