Up in the loft checking out my well played and abused PROPER Goa/Psych trance vinyl. Proper as in not the shit masquerading as psytrance that's coming out nowadays. I'm discovering though that a large number of these have got what looks like white powder residue all over them. Hmm now what could this powder be I wonder

All my mates tell me I should have all my cds/lps/tapes etc in alphabetical order as it's much easier to find something right? Wrong. I divide my collection into 4 groups - A)music I can't live without B)music I like but only when the time is right and when I'm in the right mood (you don't listen to The Cure's Faith and Pornography on a hot summer day now do you) C)generally average stuff and D)'the what was I thinking' or the 'I forgot I even had this' section.

This one is from the latter part of my collection. It's a 1994 cd ep by some presumably short lived Israeli band, but it's on Relapse Records and I was intrigued by the 'Israeli Disco Grind - Not for trendy ears' description on the sleeve and on the cd itself. Don't think I've ever come across anything even remotely similiar to it.

I have a long time mate with a hint of OCD. He's come to stay with us at least once a year for decades and we have a reasonable overlap in musical tastes. My method of keeping things broadly where I know where they are has driven him potty on occasions. I've twice let him loose to sort them into his version of order - once when I tried to do a bit of a catologue after we'd had a burglary and once as a distraction for him when the weather was too shit to go out and we didn't want to start drinking again so early. He's finally given up and just looks stuff out randomly (or brings a carrier bag of his own stuff).

Splitting into 4 wouldn't work for me - too much stuff (especially CDs), it's spread over 3 rooms. I essentially go with my own version of genres for the CDs, "where I last put them for cassettes" and "regularly played" "never played" and "valuable so careful how you store/play them" for the vinyl.

Tonight, some S.E. Rogie Palm Wine Guitar Music is coming out of the "regularly played" stack of vinyl.
