Pretty self-explanatory and certainly one of the more popular threads on the forum that must not be named.

Anyone else watching Agent Carter? Top stuff. Looking forward to some old school Marvel characters.

EDIT: Also noticed that Gotham has been renewed for a second series. I'm a little surprised at that, though I am watching it still. I think that I'd have lost interest a while ago if Penguin wasn't so good, and I'm even starting to get fed up with him.

Community will start on Yahoo on March 17th. Will be interesting to see if the new format will change things.

Anyone still bearing through with the current series of American Horror Story? The writers have taken it upon themselves to kill off at least one character each episode.

Well, it isn't being carried by a British network yet. I'm...ahem...acquiring them as they come out...

I really want to like it, there are small bits that are good but the majority of it is just either boring or poor acting.

So that's actually good then? Nice. I still need to get around to checking out Agents of Shield... but I do intend on seeing Agent Carter as well if I hear good things about it.

Persevere with Agents Of SHIELD. It's good but it has had its moments. The second season has seen a marked improvement.

It's Smat's television comedy review!!

I've been watching a few things lately.

Broad City is back! And it's just as good as ever! Or maybe marginally less good, which is okay because season* one was outstanding. Yes, the sitcom about the boobery of two hapless New York girls in their mid-20s has returned, and the almost totally plotless sitcom is still doing the business. Abby in the department store made me LOL, and Hannibal Buress can't not be funny, even if he was only in it for a few minutes. FOUR STARS! (out of five stars)

I got a £15 Amazon voucher for Christmas and I spent it on season two of Community, which came recommended by various people, some of whom advised I didn't bother with season one as it didn't really get into its stride until the second one. Well, I can only say I wish I hadn't bothered with even season two!! This show sucks ass, extremely hard. I could go on for a long time about why I hate it, but I'll just do a few bullet points:
  • Show don't tell. For fuck sake. We don't need characters to externalise the plot in discussions with one another. We're not idiots.
  • The meta stuff... sophomoric. Stops me from engaging in the characters and plot, and it's not funny
  • I don't like *any* of the characters. This is okay in It's Always Sunny because you can revel in their failures, as well as in the triumph of unapologetic villains. But (most of) these characters are also moralistic and often pious. It's not that I don't want them to succeed, I just don't care
  • There are too many characters. They could lose three or four of that core group and I wouldn't even notice
  • Lol, every episode I've watched so far features the ex-lawyer dude learning a lesson at the end and looking like he's changed his ways. No hugging, no learning please. It's gross and it doesn't make sense at the beginning of the next episode, when he's an asshole again
  • Clipped, smart, wisecracking dialogue that doesn't ring true. That's another thing, there's NO authenticity here. It's completely soulless
THAT SAID I have laughed at least once in every episode. There are some good jokes. It's just an ordeal getting to them. But I've spent £15 on it so I've sort of got to watch it. TWO STARS (on the basis that Derek is one star and nothing can be as bad as that).

Girls, season two. I had made my way through season one of Girls in a piecemeal sort of way over about 18 months and at times enjoyed it, at times not, at times I had to look away because it was so uncomfortable. But this season was a triumph. Some of them are more like little films, taking us away from New York (or at least into one location for a more 'standalone' feel), and having been watching Community (see above, I just wrote about it just now) the honesty dripping off it is irresistible. It's a real joy, driven by true characters you can't stop yourself from investing in emotionally. Jokes are sparse, but well timed and brought to life by the players. Looking forward to getting started on season three!

This concludes my television comedy review.

*I will be using the word 'season' when describing American shows, and 'series' when describing UK ones.

Walking The Nile is ace. Last one tonight.

I caught it for the first time two weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the reminder as I had forgot about it again. How many episodes were there?

No problem, I think it's gone under the radar for a lot of people, which is a shame as it is a genuinely interesting documentary. There were four episodes in total and you should be able to catch the others on 4oD.

It's been excellent.

Close your eyes and it could be Michael Owen. Except, you know, Levison is actually saying interesting stuff.

Ah okay cool. To be fair when I saw the title I thought it would be boring even though I find Africa interesting.

When he was in Sudan it was really good and the tribe that live on the island. He's a good presenter too.

Hopefully it'll start to improve now the whole Fish vs Falcone story has come to a head. It's been far too slow so far, though the whole Gordon and Barbara break-up thing has gone on for too long already.

The Doctor is more attractive than Barbara and also has the advantage of not running off to shag her ex-girlfriend when things got tough. Don't really get what all that Hollyoaks shit is about. Seems an excuse to stick lesbians in, though I know Jim Gordon's daughter was. I guess its a tribute to her. Barbara has come across as a right dick really.

I hope we see little more of Fish now. She was shit. The emphasis of the mafia plot should shift to power struggles between Falcone (who I'm glad won, he's one of the show's better characters), Maroni (naff Goodfellas reject) and Penguin (still the best part of this show.

Goodnight Sweetheart.

I'm probably in the minority on here with that one, but I bloody love it. Even the last series which goes a bit crazy plot wise.

Just the last series?

Obviously the whole premise is ridiculous but it gets truly ludicrous in the last series. In one of the last episodes the main character is struck by lightning leading to the creation of an evil twin o_O

A guid dram
I quite liked Lyndhurst's wife in it; I think she was in Rita, Sue and Bob Too (anyone who hasn't seen that really should do), and though she was never a looker, she had a bit about her suggesting she'd be a raver in the sack! ;)

Hopefully that latest episode is truly the last we'll see of Fish for a while, though this was probably her best episode. Penguin was good again. Shame Bruce turned up again, its almost like they don't think the show will work without Bruce being there. On the flipside, I enjoy Sean Pertwee as Alfred. I guess I can't have it all.

I wish they'd hurry up and let Riddler loose. He seemed far less pathetic when he was first introduced, so hopefully he'll do good at being a psycho.
