Want: Morecambe away, a day on the coast, good boozers in Lancaster, nice to play them on a Saturday instead of a Tuesday night, not to far to travel, especially for me.

Not Want: Port Vale home & away: We had this match 1st game of the season a few years ago, a massive anti climax, dull match, massive potential for disorder, let's leave the fun and games to later in the season when both sides are battling it out for the title.....

Don’t want; Exeter or Yeovil away. Low away capacity and too much of a trek.

Would like; Crewe or Bury away. Crewe always a reasonable away day and both easy to get to, so big followings.

Home game would be nice as been away for 3 of the 4 opening days.

Not too fussed who we play but we are unbeaten on the opening day in 14 years now so would like to keep that run going!

Was that when we beat you 4-1, a in-his-prime Jason Koumas running rings around your team? That may have been slightly further back..

Anyone away except Exeter (assuming they still only have space for about 6 away fans).

Morecambe away would be decent.

I don’t want to go to Stevenage any day of the season. Not too fussed otherwise!

Home would be nice, but since we were home first, last and boxing days last season we probably have to endure another two seasons of being away for them all before we can enjoy being home again.

Maybe Morecambe. Famous last words, but reasonable chance of three points, another thing we haven't done on the opening day since 2010 when we beat Brentford 2-0 with goals from Gary Madine and Ian Harte (in fact we've only won on the opening day 3 times in the twenty-first century, a goalless draw at home to Canvey Island being a particular low point).

Exeter or Newport, the only 2 grounds yet to visit. More likely to go opening day than in November or February.

Was at that game and you’re right he absolutely murdered us almost singlehanded.

Think our last defeat on opening day may have been 3-2 at Walsall. I think that 4-1 game was earlier than that but probably wrong.

As for who would want us to avoid preferably one of the two promoted teams. Always a bit wary in them circumstances.

Walsall was the last.

The Tranmere game was awful, one of the only times I have left early!

To be fair Koumas was different gravy back then, if he’d been more determined he could easily have played in the Champions League.

Would you take the best part of 2000 fans to an away game?

I couldn't care less who we get on the first day. No rivalries or games of interest next season, the promotions and relegations mean we've got an extra 400 miles of travelling this year and only one away game under 50 miles again.

No real stand outs there for me looking at the list of clubs, last year I said I wanted Chesterfield away and we got it so this year we'all probably get something crap like Exeter or Yeovil away.

Definitely not Lincoln for the first home game, as there's probably little in the world more likely to get the season off to a sour note and turn away the fair-weather fans who go to the first home game than an encounter with Rhead and the Cowleys. I'd be OK with the FL giving them a bye into the playoffs in return for nobody having to play them for the rest of the season.

A bye to 3rd spot would be better then surely?

I'd want a home match to any mid/lower mid table side like Port Vale, Crewe, Carlisle or Bury. If not, next preference would be a home game to some club that I think will struggle all season long, like Macclesfield for ex.

In the past I used to say anyone but Accy or Morecambe as I always thought these two sides were quite unpredictable. Accy have gone up so that's one gone but Morecambe are still here, although nowadays they aren't as unpredictable as they once were.

That was two seasons before (2002/03).

You had no manager and we went 1-0 up as well. :ffs:

If I recall we lost the first four games, before beating Wigan who had won all 4 away then went on a four or five game winning streak.

Would have also been the season we went into administration the first time. That season we also brought back Jon McCarthy from Blues and also signed Brett Angell to a short term deal.

We are as unknown quantity as it comes next season.

Wouldn’t mind an away day at Crewe or Macclesfield first up.

Thing with Morecambe was they always used to start strongly, and then November to January were characterised by their annual slide down the table so were predictable in a way, but I don't think they will next season.

Weaker clubs normally start stronger and fade. Happened with us in our last few years in league one.
