Wolves look like this year’s Champions. Would be surprised if they don’t go up.

And we also have Ben Marshall, who when gets involved in our counter attacks it's hard not to imagine black and white Pathe commentary, moves so bloody slowly.

It's taken us to go 2 down before we start showing a bit of interest

What a performance. I love this team.

Villa disapointed me though, worst team I've seen come to Molineux. The irony was that if it wasn't for some fantastic last second challenges from Hutton it could have been worse for Villa.

Nice to see all the complimentary posts to Wolves in this thread.

Hutton played really well. You easily deserved the win and it was a disappointing, but typical show from us. You can sense the optimism at wolves and if you can fill the ground every other week and have that support behind you teams won't enjoy going there. Automatic promotion guaranteed I'd say.

Wolves 2 - 0 Alan Hutton

Could have been a game if Hutton, Adomah and that Davis lad had brought the rest of the Villa team. Some poor refereeing, with both sides surely owed penalties, and Doherty should have been booked for looking for a penalty. I hate that kind of cheating and we really don't need it.

Would have liked to have seen Vinagre on for Douglas because Hutton was doing a good job on their left, and Douglas looked tired.

Good to be top of the division, but there are tougher tests ahead....Preston, Leeds...

On Alan Hutton, I'm curious why Villa fans thought he'd let the side down. Hew was far and away Villa's best player. We came close to signing him a few years ago (can't remember when) but I was disappointed it fell through then, and I'd still like to have him at Wolves now. As for Whelan, I thought he was on the subs bench.

First-Half was pretty shite, neither team looked like teams that were expected to be challenging for automatic promotion this season.

Then Wolves turned up.

Bringing on Bontani changed the game as Wolves had an actual centre forward on the pitch that knew what he was doing. Jota was superb when moved back out to the wing, going on some superb runs which dazzled the Villa defense. Cavaleiro looked ok, if a little selfish at times, Neves's passing was top quality, Saiss didn't have to do much, Douglas and Doherty were threatening at times, while the three centre-backs looked remarkably solid. Wolves played like champions in the second-half, and probably would've done for the entire game had Bontani had started.

On the other hand, today was the perfect example of why Villa will not be going back to the Premier League until Steve Bruce realizes he needs to tell his Villa team to up the tempo or he gets sacked. Aston Villa were so slow in getting the ball from defense to midfield, and then rarely ever got the ball up to Davis or Kodjia. If Villa were to play with some sort of urgency then they could very well have given Wolves a game but it takes them so long to get up the pitch by the time one of the midfielders has the ball, they have no one to pass to as Wolves have everybody except from the front 3 back.

Really, really poor performance today from us but let's be honest Wolves were fantastic. Best team won, could have been 4 or 5, Hutton kept us in the game a couple of times.

Not sure what else to say really, completely outplayed today. On to Saturday against Fulham.

Not from anyone here but some Villa fans moaning on their forum that we only won because we've bought the league. You know I could get that coming from most teams fans in the Championship but Jesus Christ, the hypocrisy is real.

How much did Kodija, Hogan, Chester, McCormack, Tshibola, Gollini, Bree, Hourihane, Lansbury, Bjarnason, Jedinak, Adomah, Elphick et al cost? Not going to bother going into John Terry's wages either. Your transfer outlay dwarfs ours.

Bunch of idiots to claim that. Plenty of teams have spent loads to get out of this division and it hasn't worked, including us. If it works and you go up to the prem then who cares how much you spent? You will get the money back and then some!

Think you will be surprised how much some of those you listed actually cost, if you take out Kodjia, Hogan and McCormack I believe most of them were in the £3-5m range. Wages is a different story though, still paying Gabby, Richards, McCormack etc obscene amounts and they couldn't even get in the reserves. Some truly shocking transfer/wage decisions over the last few years.

Hutton can hold his head up high. Whelan is non existent every game and is clearly just here to roll into retirement.

What a load of bollocks. Last season we spent like a top 6 prem club but didn't hear many of our fans complaining. Some of our fans look down on clubs in this league and still think we are a top 6 club. Hope you go up and I think you will. Don't rule us out yet, but we need to do better against the top teams.

Cavaleiro looked ok, if a little selfish at times,
Cavaleiro looked slow and cumbersome: frequently caught on the ball. I like him but he's def the weak link up the front. Would have been good to see how a starting line of Jota, Bonatini and Costa would have played the first half.

Funny that because I spent the game thinking we were the slow ones and that Villa were quick to move forward. Paradoxically we looked good on the counter-attack. It's weird because I found myself wanting Villa to attack so we could then counter...never had that feeling before. There were times when we were building up and it was sooooo slow and you wondered why Villa didn't come at us.... Even when we lost the ball they gave it straight back to us.
It was like the Villa team had read all the hype about Wolves and believed it. Given how the match played out, it did make me wonder how Villa had become the division's form team.

Apart from the Burton game we've not been playing that well. Burton and Norwich we looked good, but the rest of the season we've been poor.
