I saw about this. What's the deal? Like, the long term deal? Is it going to become a full time Raw/Smackdown title defended at PPV's and stuff? Maybe a new 3rd tier European title type thing? That'd be great.

it's essentially a rehearsal for a full-time UK show on the Network.

It's a weird list of people involved - people like Bate, Dunne, Devlin, Roy Johnson, Seven are all big gets but there's a lot who are, like the CWC, very green and will just be there to lose an opening round match in 7 minutes. A bit of a shame this has come so soon after Ospreay and Scurll signed with ROH otherwise this would have been stacked and potentially more impressive than the CWC event.

I am not just not that excited by this, although it can't be worse than the World of Sport ITV special over the new year.

That was good.

It's always been clear the first round would be the big hurdle as there were quite a few unknowns in there to make up the numbers (again, a shame they couldn't get all of UK's biggest names ofr various reasons) - some like Huxley and Gradwell were piss poor, Tucker was a pleasant surprise - and a couple of the bigger names like Seven and Dunne struggled to properly establish themselves because of their opponents but i remember the first round of the CWC being equally scrappy.

On paper tomorrow should be great. Dunne, Andrews, Bate and Seven are all great and Devlin and Wolfgang should contribute to good matches.

Star of the day was definitely Tyler Bate, it's ludicrous how talented and polished he is at 19. Showed absolutely zero nerves either - just a shame they'll probably have him put Devlin over in the next round.

Dunne/Andrews & Seven/Devlin is my prediction for the semi finals with Dunne winning the whole thing.

That would be my prediction too

Out of interest i tweeted about bate and that we should sign him tagging in the wwe nxt twitter page... Wwe uk liked the tweet

Its so on.

Hopefully this results in the rumoured weekly show and a few more uk wrestlers appear. I believe the wrestlers they use in 205 live are contractors not full time wwe employees so it is up to the individuals oromotions to release them. Hopefully mean that a few nore from progress and ICW make an appearance

Just not fucking grado!

Everyone's free to work for WWE and the indies as part of the deal - the only promotions they're prohibited from working with is World of Sport and WCPW as they appear on TV and stream live on the internet and are therefore classed as competitors or whatever. That's why Cole was talking about PROGRESS, ICW etc... quite openly - it's all very chummy between them - Balor and End even appeared at the PROGRESS show in Birmingham earlier today. I assume they'll tape it in a similar format to NXT and have monthly/bi-monthly tapings and then an hour weekly show.

The bigger question after tonight though is how many they try and sign up full-time - it's pretty clear the likes of Bate and Dunne are superstars in the making (especially given they're 19 & 23). Do they try and get them over to Orlando? NXT is hardly has an embarrassment of riches currently and there will be call-ups post-Mania.

Either way, a superb 2 nights of wrestling. Very very impressed (and a little proud, if I'm allowed to say that) by a few guys I've been following for a few years now - all very hard-working talented blokes and it's very pleasing that the likes of Seven, Andrews, Dunne and Bate all shone - add Tommy End into the mix and they're an extremely likeable bunch of people as any British wrestling fan will attest to.

so the 2018 tournament is starting in June at the Download Festival, they have announced the first batch of competitors, with the rest to be announced later this week:

  • Zack Gibson
  • Joe Coffey
  • 205 Live wrestler Jack Gallagher
  • Dave Mastiff
  • Kenny Williams, who debuted on 205 Live last night
  • El Ligero
  • Joseph Conners, a participant in last year’s tournament
  • Amir Jordan
interestingly a few of those are also appearing for ITV's WOS Wrestling show, so they must have come to an agreement to work on both

brackets announced for the tournament that starts at the Download Festival this weekend:

UK-Bracket.png

pretty easy to guess who will be winning majority of the matches, although as per the previous tournament there were some surprises

I am going to go out there and say Zack Gibson will win it and he will be in the final vs Travis Banks, certainly if PROGRESS have had any involvement in the planning of it

this airs on the Network on 25th-26th June
