Difficult to choose between three:

Nick Pope - only been on loan since the start of January from Charlton but it's hard to underestimate the impact he's had in goal, helping to solidify a somewhat leaky defence for a team barely still in the top half at the time. Not only have Bury conceded the least per game in 2015 (and not conceded more than one in a match this year either), he has made some outstanding saves at particularly vital times, most notably against Luton a few weeks ago.

Nathan Cameron - transformed from a player bereft of confidence under the previous management last season. I did think he had a glimmer of talent before but now I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the League Two Team of the Season. He has featured in every match and barring injury or suspension, which he is one yellow away from, will be the only Bury player to do so. Utterly commanding at times and has coped well whilst the defence has changed personnel around him.

Danny Mayor - probably less consistent than the previous two but an explosive player on his day. He's contributed eight goals from a nominal left wing position, which is a very healthy return, but it's his ability to beat several players off one dribble that excites fans and there's normally an end product out of that. I'd wager his goals and assists total would be higher were it not for being played as a wing-back during the terrible November-December period.

If the season started in January this would be a far tougher decision, as Brendan Maloney, Ricky Holmes and Jason Taylor have all been excellent additions.

That being said across the whole season Marc Richards has been excellent. Think he has 17 in 25 games for us, if he hadnt of missed a month earlier in the season and been injured now I have no doubts he would of bagged 25 goals.

I am curious what players people would select for a league 2 best XI.

Hard to call this season. A couple of the best teams (Burton and Wycombe) don't really have many if any stand-out individual players from what I have seen.

-----------------------------------------L. McCormick

?????-----------------?C. Nelson?-------------------N. Knight-Percival------------------?????

--------------------------N. Doyle--------------------R. Woods

?????-------------------------------J. Wallace----------------------------------------D. Mayor

----------------------------------------?????

McCormick is an easy choice, way too good for this level even if he is detestable. There are some really good keepers down here this year though (Ingram, Bentley, Pope, all young too with lots of potential).

Not really sure about Nelson, he was the only one that immediately came to mind. No idea about the full backs really, not the type of opposition players who jump out at you usually and it's certainly none of ours!

Central midfield are the easy ones for me, three players who are without a shadow of a doubt (in my mind at least) playing beneath their level.

Not sure about the wings either. Mayor has stood out as Bury's best player all four times we've played them this season and has a decent stats return so I've given him the nod. Wycombe fans were raving about Cowan-Hall and he got his big move, but he never stood out when I saw him play (although he did score against us!) and he's gone now anyway so not an option. Onyedimha has impressive stats but I'm yet to see him play so can't comment. I've seen a few wingers give us torrid times this season, but the sheer number of times leads me to believe that we are weak down the flanks rather than every opponent having great wingers so it's hard for me to recall any individual greatness. I'm sure I'm missing some obvious ones though.

Striker is tough. Tubbs/Richards/Reid all score goals at this level but have major weaknesses in their games. Hayes and Beavon haven't scored nearly the number of goals, but have probably contributed more overall to their teams from my limited viewing (both have been instrumental in probable promotion form by top teams whereas the teams with the top scorers are at best play-off hopefuls). I guess Collins must be up there in goals as well and Shrewsbury will go up so he must be in with a shout.

Pretty sure there would be some Burton players to go in there

I feel this deserves a seperate thread to not mix the two subjects.

Should make a new thread for this imo. On the subject of Collins, no way for me. He's scored plenty but he's played pretty much every game and hasn't been subbed much either. He's missed a lot of chances and ha dsome very poor games.

Edit:

I see someone has :)

Has to be Marc Richards, the blokes awesome. Struggle to find a better all round striker at this level, wish he hadn't been out for a couple of months, we'd be in the playoffs and he'd have 25 goals.

Jamie Cureton. What a striker. 39 yet moves like a man 10 years younger. I really hope we get him on another 1 year deal in the summer. Absolutely superb.

Charlie Lee probably - up until Christmas most definitely the case, tailed off in the new year but all of the other possible contenders have experienced a lull in form or been unavailable for a chunk of campaign.

I would say Paul Hayes, doesn't score that many but the footballing brain is great and he is so much more than just a striker.

Mawson and Pierre in defence (can't pick between them) in joint 2nd, Onyedinma fourth.

This time last year I would have struggled to pick anyone.

Being as though our season has been really dissapointing we don't have many to choose from. Out of the players who have been here all season then it has to be Taffazolli. You could make cases for Thomas, who has just come into the side or Elder, Oliver and Ravenhill who have all been here for 3/4 months each. Well Oliver signed in October.

Mine however is Clements, He is technically brilliant. You can see his quality when he is on the ball but sadly ever since we signed him we've never played football and he spends most of the time watching the ball go over the top of his head. We really should get the ball to him more often and let him make things happen. One criticism though is his work ethic can sometimes be questioned. I do think he is improving but there's more work to be put in yet!

I'm putting James Wesolowski and James Collins in there from Shrewsbury.

We are shite, so hard to pick anyone. Especially as any players who have shown any level of quality have either been injured a lot or have been returning from long term injuries. Of our actual contracted players, I think Jake Hyde is the pick - works hard, holds the ball up well and has a real poacher's instinct. Our leading scorer with, er, 9. He'd have more if he hadn't been injured a lot. Keith Lowe has been solid at centre back and will pop up with the odd crucial goal. Michael Coulson has also been excellent. Luke Summerfield has rarely had a run of games, but we seem a better side with him in it.

Other than that, you're on to loanees, of which there have been many.

Joe Jacobsen is definitely in with a shout for left back - I really can't comprehend why we let him go as he was one of the few players to come out of our L1 relegation campaign with any credit...another solid performance from him last night at Luton

At present it would have to be someone who hasn't played/started since 23 January. :pond: Luke Chadwick brought some smiles but only made 12 starts. Robbie Simpson has been magnificent on a few notable occasion. Harrison Dunk is making a late bid at left back but at the moment it's probably Sir Kwesi (absence makes the heart grow fonder) despite only scoring 8 in 23 appearances.

At the end of the season I hope that it will be none of the above (or possibly Robbie) because we have hit our straps from Saturday onwards. :sb: amber army!

Cureton's definitely up there for us - but I'd also go for Mark Cousins as well who's been exceptional, especially given his lack of 1st team football over the past 5 years or so.

Can't say too many players stand out from the opposition, but El Khayati for Burton made the biggest impact of a sub I've seen in quite a while when he came on vs us last month. Looked a real talent.

Cousins is being over-hyped for me, not saying he's been bad but wouldn't put him up with Cureton, Doe, Ayo or even Hemmings

Central defender Alfie Mawson who we've had on loan from Brentford all season. Nobody had heard of him when he signed on the morning of the new season but he started and has been outstanding since.
