Other notable players to have left us -

Ryan France - Played for a number of years for us before moving on to Hull where he made several Premier League appearances.
Aden Flint - Excellent Centre back who we sold for 150,000 to Swindon after unearthing him at local side Pinxton FC.
Kyle MCFazdean - Released by Sheff United. Signed by us. Now playing for Burton in the Championship after a successful spell at MK Dons

Barnsley winning promotion was the worst thing that could have happened for Payne. Although I think he'd have a good crack at league 1, he's not a Championship quality striker. Shame because he seems to be improved his attitude a hell of a lot since the move and had a good preseason by all accounts.

I really rated Payne in his short spell here. Unfortunately his attitude was shocking (think he got two red cards in as many months) and he was packed off with practically the whole squad when Steve Brown came in.

There was glimpses of that when he was at Dover, kicked out a few times and sometimes seemed disinterested in the game. For the most part he was a quality striker with heaps of athleticism and technical ability.

From interviews with him and reading his social media posts and comments from Barnsley fans, he does appear to have really knuckled down - would be a shame to see him drop out of league football having been given his chance. Would like to see him do well, Even If He Does Tweet Like This All The Time.

Notable that of the two that went up last season CTFC are struggling with a largely unaltered squad yet GTFC having shed loads including of course Amond & Arnold are dealing well with Div 2.
Loads of its to do with luck, talent helps its some way off the main reason why a player thrives or not in the league.

Wes Burns is possibly currently the highest league player having moved from us, though thats at Aberdeen, does that count  :fl:, he was very much with us on loan from Bristol City even though The Hock didnt play him in his usual position

Wasn't there 3 or 4 leave the league to go up to the SPL this summer?

This getting scary, agree with you again, he did have not only a bad attitude at times but a very nasty side to him, one tackle last year I remember when he snapped the lads leg from Torquay I think it was when he was amazingly lucky not to escape with what would have been his third red of the season.
What makes you think he may drop out of league football though, because even if deemed surplus to requirements at Barnsley am sure there are a few Div 1 and many Div 2 sides that would be happy to have him in a heart beat

You suggested he come back on loan, I think that would be a shame (although I would welcome it). It's one thing finding a league club off the back of a quality season scoring lots of goals in a play off side in the Conference - finding a league club after a year sat on the bench at Barnsley will be a lot harder with nobody talking about him/questions about form/fitness etc. Hopefully Barnsley get an injury/suspension or something that gives him a chance and he takes it.

He must have improved a lot, when he was at Kidderminster he was rubbish wasn't he?

Looks like he only had a few games there, so it's not always easy to come into a team and be good straight away. I think a few clubs were ready to pay good money for him this summer, so he can't be too bad. Was a good goal that he scored the other day.

I really hope he gets the chance. Definitely deserves it.

I also hate people who tweet like that. Annoying fuckers.

We've had:

Ryan Bennett- left 2009 for Peterborough and we got 500k. Signed for Norwich a couple of years later for about £4m so we got a good sell-on.

Alan Connell- scored around 30 goals in 10/11 and Swindon bought him for about 200k. Didn't play much, signed for Bradford and retired this summer I think.

We also sold a youth to Hull for either 10k or 100k but he's now languishing in the lower-leagues.

Could and should've sold Liam Hearn to Peterborough before he became a perma-crock. Think they bid 500k at the time.

Of the players leaving us for a League 2 side at the end of last season, Beckles seems to have been a hit at Accrington, while Browne doesnt seem to have done much at Grimsby.

Browne's been injured nearly all season, now back to fitness but was away on international duty at the weekend.
