Yep, it's definitely not a pen. And the sending off's justified too, he clearly catches the Newport lad.
Looks to me like this game had everything, including a goal straight from a corner kick, as I don't think anyone got a touch before it went in.

After watching the highlights on player I believe Luton deserved the win, and it could easily have been more but for some poor finishing.

They're not taking this very well are they Newport?

The penalty is a real difficult one; the referee gets one look at it. In real time, not slow motion with all sorts of external factors.

As dives go, Pelly has probably timed it to perfection to fool the referee, as it wasn't early enough to be detected.

Whilst it is mildly amusing to listen to Luton fans (and management) who seem to see their team as some sort of exponents of the purest form of the beautiful game, let's remember this is League Two and pretending it's not makes us sound like two bald men arguing over a comb. Luton fans are sounding like Oxford fans the season before last; they weren't Barcelona either. We all do what we can to get a result and in this league we are ranked in order of how less shit we are than each other. We would all do well to remember that.

We have a bottom six budget and if our team are winding up Luton fans, players and management, using every underhand tactic to gain an advantage I am happy. Our squad last year was a bunch of namby pamby hacks who didn't care about winning a game of football let alone representing the club. This season's unruly mob sound a bit more promising and I think we will stay up. I really do.

If one of our player's won a penalty through a dive, I would gladly have taken the three points ... if we lose out through a dive that results in a penalty .... that's football ... get over it. Luton won, we lost. There are another 43 games to get it right/ mess it up. I'm just glad that it looks like this season might just be marginally better than last season was absolutely dire.

Not sure where you have seen Luton fans thinking we're Barcelona, we've literally been discussing on this thread how our crowd still havent got it yet and want to see hoofs up the pitch!

Agree about McGeehan though. Personally would have preferred if he had kept his gob shut, we have won the game move on. No need to go around calling other teams cheats, Newport certainly weren't the worst I've seen in that department.

As I have said above, hope we don't put a target in our backs by suddenly anointing ourselves the moral arbiters of league 2 football.

I think you'll find that most on here are just overjoyed we trying to return to being a football team that plays, after so many years in the Conference as clod hoppers.

We're mostly a pretty humble bunch it seems to me, these days. The team and Manager are young and still excitible and I can forgive that but they'll definitely wind up a few opponents post match with comments like those. I like that passion. The fan base seems hopeful. Excited. Optimistic.

Kinda monied for our level but far from the biggest fish in the pond and we know it well. Yes we're a lot happier than for a long while in general and we have always been somewhat disliked which irks and pleases me in equal doses.

I'll roll with the tag Barcaluton for a while.........;-)

Barcaluton I like it. Yes, the comments I read were on Outlaws and there was a quote in our local rag that McGeehan had called us a 'disgrace to League 2' (!) and that weird Kevin Keeganesque outburst by your manager referred to our tactics. TBH I'm more concerned that we have players who seem better equipped to stay up this season than last and if Luton do well, fair play. It's all heat of the moment/manufactured outrage on both sides but it will make return fixtures a little more interesting this season.

That's it abit embarrassing. The bloke who dived is a big bloke, and he threw himself to the floor before the Newport player even got near him. Take off your Luton tinted glasses!

I liked the irony of Barcaluton too. Can't claim it as mine tho. Some other bright spark on here last season.

Don't see any tinted glasses. Most have admitted it looks a bad dive. Because it's in the last minute of the last dregs it's a game changer but it happens most games by most teams at every level. Sad trait of the modern game. Do feel for Newport.

Noone is denying it was a dive. It clearly was or was, at best, 'manufactured contact'. However 2 minute highlight packages don't show the other 88 (in this case 93) minutes of the game. If you view the incident in context, Newport thoroughly deserved to lose that way.
