That's master tactician and best current manager in League 2, Paul Hurst aka the Burchnall Slayer. The man who brought your previous incumbent to his knees (or a weird squatting position if we're being totally honest). Purveyor of dull 1-0 away wins and keeping us shape. Guaranteed to grind your samba football into a mush of scruffy midfield tackles and beat you with a corner bundled over the line on 93 mins.

Looks like I was wrong I shouldn't have known.

Hurst slays Burchnall so we get Williams.

I must send him a thank you card.

Any style done very well, is effective and works.

Wrexham nailed the tactics at racecourse last course, and still nearly drew, so the question is how good will Wrexham be at L2 level, and thus how many can effectively copy that approach.

It may not have been so close if we hadn't had 11 offside calls incorrectly given,. Or Rodrigues tripping himself up given as a foul.

Both games were close, which shows how close the two teams were to each other really. The game at Meadow Lane could have been a different story if our finishing had been better.

I'll look forward to another season of everyone deriding our style and going on about how amazing Notts are.

11

You must have watched it on TV.

Both close and both sides deserved to win their respective home games. The straight from the training ground goal at Meadow Lane was a thing of beauty.

Surely you mean amazing style of football rather than just amazing?

Plus at least you are prepared for it, some of these L2 fans no not of how suffocating the endless supply of clickbait internet articles based on celeb owners nothing tweets combined with a constant fawning of the media as a whole on all things Wrexham, Netflix series and Mr Reynolds.

We are the only other club who's fan really know what it's like. Best way to deal with it is to get promoted with you.

Is Wrexham style shite then? Only watched them against Sheffield Utd.

Plenty of non-league shithousery was going on, but I doubt they can match Sutton and Harrogate for that.

When Parkinson first joined us he actually tried to play football, then resorted to more direct measures when we were in danger of relegation. Although he stayed much more direct after the switch at times we still played some good stuff, the game against Chelsea was incredible and not just because of the result. He’s direct and a prick if you’re against him, but it’s a bit of a myth that Parkinson is a dinosaur. He’s clever and calculated and does what is needed for wins. We ended every season higher than the last under him, despite losing some key players along the way.

Would be a little disappointed with that tbh, I expect Top 8 this season but not Top 3. Certainy expect Wrexham to finish right up there.

I've tipped and bet on it finally being the Year of the Stag. It's about damn time

I think you’re in for a rude awakening but will sort it out sharpish.
Even in friendlies we've been playing a deeper line and tried four at the back.
Williams isn't a fool and whatever gets said publicly, he'll know we were vulnerable from to attacks on the break at pace and will try to tweak the defence without sacrificing the way we play.

Like I said I don’t think you’ll struggle long term but might take a few games to adjust (same for Wrexham actually). Stockport did last season but easily made the playoffs in the end just missing out on autos

Thats exactly how we play. We can go direct and set pieces are a big part of how we play but we've got some very good footballers and can play football as well as anyone. One of the things he's said is that he's brought in players who he know can play and he doesn't dictate how they play, but leaves it up to them.

I did unfortunately, had to give my ST up last season so have had to watch most games on TV/streaming since - and no prospect of getting a ST until the new Kop is built. If I'd been at the game I may not have been counting the offside decisions!

I agree that both games were tight, but the home side edged them and deservedly won. And the Notts goal at ML was great, credit where its due, fantastic movement.

Adam Virgo certainly was and he made out he was perfectly in line for every single one no matter whether it was 1st or 2nd half. They are all offside obviously .He knew each and every time what the correct decision was. :ffs:

Did you watch the doc? They did a "Top 10 Plays" compilation at some point in the 21/22 season and it was mostly Mullin heading the ball over the line from a yard out.

22/23 Wrexham a different story though, much more pleasing on the eye from what I've seen. I guess if you've Elliot Lee playing it would be silly to lump it over him.

Still 1, maybe 2 to come in to strengthen the forward areas, but with a week to go we look like this:

GK - Glenn Morris, Jake Turner
DF - Max Ehmer, Connor Masterson, Will Wright, Max Clark, Robbie McKenzie, Cheye Alexander, Scott Malone, Shadrach Ogie, Alex Giles, Sam Gale, Ike Orji
MF - Shaun Williams, Dom Jefferies, Jonny Williams, George Lapslie, Tim Dieng, Ethan Coleman, Josh Chambers, Jayden Clarke, Matty McCarthur
ATT - Oli Hawkins, Tom Nichols, Ashley Nadesan, Joe Gbode, Lewis Walker, Ronald Sithole

I think we're strong defensively, midfield (centrally) is well stocked and we have decent forwards - I think it's a top 8 squad, but not convinced it's a top 3 one without a proper goalscorer in the setup.

Well, if Macauley Bonne can be the goalscorer we need then you never know....

Squad more or less complete.

Years ago we signed Ian Rush and a ot of people seemed to be expecting the free scoring Liverpool player, despite the fact he'd done well playing deeper for Leeds and Newcastle. He didn't score in 23 games and went off to Australia after one season. Reminds me of that situation.
That’s because he stopped drinking his milk.

30 players but a few of those are marked as ' one for the future ' . Probably 24 real first teamers.

Gladwin is still injured and it appears he has been joined by Forster and Adeyemo. No one has heard anything about Jack Roles.

The first two league games we lined up as a 3421

Addai
Wright Conroy Ransom
Gordon Kelly Williams Tsaroulla
Telford Darcy
Orsi

We've done well with it but I do worry about Ransom, a centre back stopper type being exposed against a winger. Especially as he is right footed playing on the left.

I still think we miss physical presence in the midfield but Jay Williams has stepped up to that role and with Lynch leaving we may get one more in.
