Grimsby fans wetting themselves and going into overhype mode? Surely not.

Mediocre team.
Does it count as a WUM if your targets agree? We are consistently inconsistent, which you can indeed label as mediocre. Our hope now is to turn up for the playoffs. If we do you lot have bob hope. :fing:

I'm really hoping for a Wrexham win. I remember going down to Forest Green during our 98 winning season and Dean Keates missing a last minute penalty. It felt then that our promotion chase of Fleetwood was over. Horrendous trip home. Be nice to get a little revenge from that game. Would still prefer a close end of season finish between the top two though. Not particularly bothered out of Forest Green and Cheltenham who goes up.

Nah don't think it's fair slagging off Grimsby. Disappointing night for us and Grimsby, title looks all but over unfortunately.
Win tomorrow and you'll be one win away from going top. I don't think it's over by any stretch.

I'm not an FGR sympathiser as we all know, but it isn't over. Sure it's a severe mental hurdle to jump over tomorrow, but if they do it, they're within one result again.

That said, Cheltenham looked like champions tonight.

It absolutely isn't in Grimsby's interests for Cheltenham to let this slip now either - think they know which one they'd rather have at Wembley should they get there as is likely.

Cheltenham did play well tonight, but jeez that ref was a homer if ever there was one. Pell literally threw himself on the ground to win the free kick from which they scored the first goal and Wright should have seen red for treading on the Grimsby keeper when he could have easily avoided doing so.

But none of the pre season friendlies against REALLY GOOD Derby, Peterborough, Notts County and Huddersfield sides were won 1-0?
Be careful otherwise it might be claimed ALL WREXHAM FANS ARE OBSESSED WITH GRIMSBY for pointing out ridiculous statements.
You are getting so monotonous please give it a rest.

Top banter! :2thumb:

Just up to us to beat FGR and more or less hand Cheltenham the title.

The Braintree can win the play offs and all will be well in the world.

Best side won. And the best team will win the league (Cheltenham). I moaned about the best team not winning the league last season but Gary Johnson is a class above every manager in this league and I am sure 95 % of fans agree with it. I am ready for the Hurst out shouts to begin but the time to review his position is after our season ends and not now.

They didn't look that good against us on Monday - or maybe we just made them look mediocre ;-)

In all seriousness I haven't been massively impressed by Cheltenham. Considering the budget they clearly have with parachute payments I don't think they are outstanding. It's true that they are a very physical which sadly seems to be what makes a national league side successful.

I like Bogle and his ability is clear to see, but I said before he reminds me of Andy Cook in that he's a confidence player. If things aren't going his way he takes it to heart and it comes out aggressively. I don't think he's a cock, just a frustrating player who beats himself up. Him and Amond looked very good together in the first third of the season.

Cheltenham have bettered us in both games this season and are clearly worthy winners of the league. It will be an honour to do our bidding and slay the veg at Wembley.

Bogle will hopefully be at Barrow next season if you go up through the play offs. As for Cook he got his confidence back last season in conference North and is nearing 20 goals for the season now :)

Well my wavering hope from several weeks ago has well and truly been quashed this week. Play-offs it is and I can't wait to beat the Green Street No Meat at Wembley. Fair play to Cheltenham for beating us solidly over two legs, you've been the most consistent team this season.

However, your team is a bunch of c*** and I don't wish you well in the future. I see that mentally challenged Adalsteinn bloke is controlling his weird Twitter page again. Fair to say I'm pissed off tonight.

Such a unlike able team. Pell was embarrassing tonight, fell over at every opportunity.

Will Danny Wright be in trouble for his stomp ?

Seriously, any side that gets promoted won't have a problem, were on par (at best) that went up and average 3,300 with away fans, as Bristol have proved this season with only a season down a club can go straight back up - Grimsby could do this if they finally make it out.

Accrington with crowds of 1500 are in the playoffs - go figure

Hahaha I see there is a fair bit of hate towards us this evening. Whatever Danny Wright did, whatever the ref did, I don't think anyone can deny we were deserved winners on the night. Dominated the game.

GG nailed it a few posts up. Ref was poor but so were we. Cheltenham were physically stronger than us almost everywhere. Gowling's had a mare in the box to be outmuscled so easily by Wright. Always had something niggling in the back of my mind telling me that I don't like the look of Wright and his step/stamp on McKeown proved my judgemental tendencies to be accurate. Awful stuff. Another Cheltenham player saw fit to aim his celebration towards Gowling who was on the floor probably hoping for a giant hole to swallow him up. Completely unnecessary. Still, I thought Cheltenham were very good last night. All over us right up until their first went in. I didn't think they were anything special at Blundell Park, but now I can see why they're top. We've shown up for about 25 minutes of the last 2 matches combined. Had we won them, I think the title would have been in our hands? Disappointing. Amond/Arnold have been off the boil of late. We're dire need of those two picking their form up, otherwise we'll be consigned to soaking up pressure and hoping for a couple of 1-0s to navigate the playoffs.

Be careful otherwise it might be claimed ALL WREXHAM FANS ARE OBSESSED WITH GRIMSBY for pointing out ridiculous statements.
What was ridiculous about suggesting Bogle was going to be a quality player at this level? Had a great record at Conference North the previous two seasons we signed him.

I was going to post when the Tranmere fans were having a go at FGR that the one thing we struggled with was manipulating the ref, something that will definitely win you games in this league. Whilst I don't like it, it is a fact, FGR were brilliant at it in both games against us, and Braintree a couple of weeks ago as well. Last night completely put that to bed.

I've only seen a couple of replays from the game which are basically the three goals, so I can't comment on the penalty decision (looked it from where I was sat, but that was the other side of the ground), or the stamp (seems clear cut, and I wondered why the Grimsby keeper chased after Wrighty). Strangely, and I know I am biased, I honestly haven't seen Wright do anything like that all season, and I'm actually a little shocked to hear that he did it.

As for the game itself, I can't remember the last time we played that well. We have been very lucky at times this season, but the fight and endeavour was fantastic last night. Even without the refs help (no doubt a homer) I think we would have won the game. Parslow, Pell and Wright were epic as a spine, and the support acts were fantastic. I genuinely believe that a fully fit James Dayton could be the best player in this division. As for Harry Pell, I put on our own forum that a special performance has to earn a 10 rating, and last night I think he earned that. When Stoz went off I thought the worst as he was our bite in the middle, but Pell stepped up to the plate and absolutely dominated the middle of the park. I can see why opposing team's fans hate him, he is niggly and he does like a dive, but by God he's beautiful when he's on form.

For the first time this season, I think our name is on the trophy.

I agree with Si Robin, we aree definitely not a dirty team or cheats, when we played Forest Green home and away they constantly fouled us and then dived at the slightest contact and it disrupted our game, Braintree took that to a whole new level the other week. I thought last night Grimsby came and had a go at us, they tried to play football but also physically beat us and we stood up to both and proved why we are the best team in this league.

I think the title is ours now but it's been obvious since the start of the season there are three teams much better and more consistent than the rest, of those Grimsby don't quite have the same quality as Forest Green and ourselves.

You were easily the best team yesterday but I'll say it again, your players are a bunch of c***. To say that you simply 'stood upto us physically' is the understatement of the year.

I watched the game yesterday and was disappointed with Grimsby, I really thought they'd step it up in probably the biggest game left in the entire division.

However, no matter how clean they usually are, Cheltenham put in a hell of a dirty performance. Not here to judge on whether they're a dirty team or if it was justified, but they were going in too strong all over the pitch and that stamp on the GK... Well, he should've gone.

Cheltenham and Grimsby up please - failing that I'd love to see the reactions of some of these big boy L2 clubs when they lose away at Braintree.

Thoroughly deserved the win that's for sure, and have to say really disappointed with Grimsby, they didn't exactly exude belief did they, and with some very hard fixtures coming up, with goals drying up am even more convinced they won't finish third.
Out of curiosity whilst am sure there are precedents, how often, I assume it's rarely for obvious reasons, have players in the conference retrospectively been given a red and subsequent three game ban. If Wright's s stupid and petulant stamp on the keepers arse had happened in the premiership, championship or for that matter any televised match he would surely be sitting out the next three games, but in this league?
I can see why the referee missed it to be fair, but as others had said some of his other decisions beggared belief at times.

Real pressure on FGR today now as surely a draw will simply not be good enough?

Well done Grimsby and thank you on behalf of every other club in the division. The thought of those wanky scumbags at Stepford Whores FC being allowed to buy a place in the greatest league in the world is too much for most of us. Now concentrate on keeping yourselves fresh to finish the job in the play-offs. See you at Wembley for a massive High-5. :bdick:

I'm not too bothered by the result this afternoon, although a win would be good to keep a bit of pressure on the northern neighbours, more so by how the team is set up and the level and style of performance. Last season we crept into the play-offs playing really poorly, more because the teams around us also lost form, and didn't show up at all in two games against the Gas. Many of our fans are fearing a repeat this season, there is little doubt that our current style of play is dreadful to watch, the only upside is that it has kept us in the race to win the league.

Without wasting bandwidth and quoting what he posted, I find myself agreeing with most of what Si Robin posted above, and much as it pains me to say it they will be worthy champions if we are unable to chase them down. If we falter against Wrexham today, which is definitely possible as they probably need the points more than we do, then it might be worth phoning the engraver and making an appointment.
