3-5-2 as expected, only 2 full debuts with Matty Stevens back from last seasons loan at Stevenage starting up top. Ebou Adams fit to start after missing our last friendly is good news. Seems Bailey Cargill’s injured though, meaning all of our back 5 are under 6ft. Hopefully Sutton aren’t too big and direct.

Our lineup confirms what I've been worried about - we look very light up top.

Rovers line up much as expected. No Knight-Percival on the bench, injured or pinged, highlights lack of depth at the back, when already using a makeshift left-back. Look strong in midfield and hopefully enough to trouble the Saddlers up top.

Get in! We've not really been in full flow and made some poor fouls but rode a couple of tackles there and Stevens heads it in. Cadden assist of course.

We were the better team by a fair way for the first ten fifteen minutes. Been more even since, Not a great deal to threaten either keeper.

We've edged the first half against Stevenage, but picked up three bookings that might come back to bite us. Looks like we've been doing most the running too though, so I'd expect Stevenage to have more in the tank in the second-half.

A draw would be a good result for us, to be honest.

Best chance so far for us. McDonald header from a corner, good header too, brought out a very good save from the keeper.

Prior to that Mellish maybe should have scored when the ball came to him in the middle of the goal but he either miskicked it or just taken by surprise and could only pass it to the keeper.

Colchesters best attacks have failed to result in a shot. Frank Nouble slicing it over his shoulder when receiving it on the corner of the six yard box and a tasty looking through ball that beat everyone including their own attackers.

Haven’t missed the frustration that’s for sure.

Better side for most of that but conceded one of the poorest goals you’ll see. Long throw scuffed shot falls to their lad to scoop in. Really really poor defending.

Not created a lot for our play but probably had miss of the season already when a yard out Wilson put a chance wide although in fairness it hit him hard… 9 times out of 10 it bounces in.

Look a bit disjointed maybe understandable with the changes and the system isn’t working as our full backs are exposed. May be worth going 4-4-2 as Northampton’s only threat so far is that overload.

Think Swindon have been the better team in our game, they're streets ahead of us technically. Were being dominated in midfield with Grant just running the game.

We've created some good opportunities to cross the ball but everyone has been so poor.

Largely been a nothing game with little happening. We made a fatal mistake of letting the ball bounce on a set piece and Northampton took advantage. All to play for though.

Tough, scrappy start to the season. Both teams tackling well and passing poorly, which is making for a frustrating watch and few chances. Lots of fouls and the ref is calling it very well IMHO (including our total fail of a dive... Mcmanaman I think).

Either team could nick this, let's see what gets changed at half time.

We seem to be lumping it long too much, with the midfield we have we have to get them on the ball but seem rushed since the goal.

Rodney isn’t going to win much aerially.

One change I’d be looking at quickly is Benning on for Johnson then Jones moved to LCB. Try and stretch their defence a bit more.

Norman called into action on the stroke of half time, making a good save. The game has gone in spells of Carlisle pressure followed by Colchester counter attacking but there's been a lack of quality end product on both sides.

Brought the new lad Festus Arthur on at half-time. 30 seconds later, he's lost his man and we're 1-0 down...
