The only thing that has any impact on whether B teams are introduced or not is whether EFL CLUB chairmen grow a spine or not. Losses from last year's poor attendances are being subsidised so whether we attend or not makes fuck all difference.

We saw with EPPP that when offered a short term cash injection then club chairmen will roll over.

I don't know whether similar incentives will be offered if it is eventually put to a vote for B teams to join the league. Make no mistake though - if enough subsidy is offered to offset a drop in attendances then chairmen are likely to accept.

I don't think it will happen, as any subsidy would be huge and likely beyond what the PL would be prepared to pay in comparison to the trivial Trophy, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking that the powers-that-be don't have the resources to offset any losses our teams will make if we don't attend games.

Added a word to your 1st para to make it explicit. Seems you're not getting much support as you don't think boycotts are worth it/you'll go anyway (sorry, didn't go back to check). But your basic premise is, sadly, correct - that many L1 and L2 chairmen will cave in. Yes, Shaun '3 Admins' Harvey is a useless though dangerous CEO but he can't force through any of his ludicrous schemes without the support of club chairmen. They make the decisions and most follow the money. In the case of EPPP, the Prem threatened to cut off all financial support (the wonderfully-titled 'solidarity payments') if they didn't agree so most clubs caved in. With the checkafraud thingy, the Prem have - so generously - chucked in an extra £1m (loose change to them) so the majority of chairmen, once again, caved in. Next step will be a re-run of the EPPP fiasco - we want our kids to play in the FL; if you don't agree, we'll withdraw our financial support. Think we can all guess how that will play out.

It's all so depressing :-(

My club can be shit sometimes, Mansfield away tickets go on sale today and priority for them after season ticket holders (who are limited to 1 per season ticket) go to people with stubs from the Checkatrade game v Doncaster.
Last season season ticket holders could get 2 each for Mansfield so it's been reduced as a pathetic ploy to get people to come to the fraud trophy game.
Fucking wankers.

It's alright though, the clubs and the league are definitely not trying to manipulate us, absolutely not....

What are the odds that EFL have offered clubs financial incentives if they increase attendances from last year?

Another joke is that these games aren't classed as competitive games, so player suspended can play in them and have to miss another league game.

No no, players who are suspended can't play in them, but also they have to miss another league game.

At least that is what happened with Kyle Storer last season.

Our club site is reporting that our two suspended players can play in it and instead will miss the next league game.

That's ridiculous. Grimsby are taking the piss out of their loyal away support there. A ticket to Manny is hardly a ticket to a big cup game, so what's with the blackmail?

Personally I'd boycott the cup game and the league trip to Field Mill.

Was going to create a new thread for this competition given most get underway this week, but then I realised most of the talk about the games already played and the competition in general was in here.

So I've renamed the thread to cover all Checkatrade Trophy talk from this season.

Let's be honest most of the talk will be about the crowds anyway, no one cares how reserves got on against youth teams

Agree with that......there is something a lot more sinister this is in way clubs are trying to bully, bribe or blackmail their own fans with regards this competition.

Its as if clubs find fans going back to this more important than league games.

Normally I wouldn't care about putting a strong side out but we need to gel fast, once we changed to two up front Saturday we were far better and signs were positive so would actually go strongest XI to give it another game to gel.

Oldham having a bad start (don't they always) so could win.

Only £7 to get in tomorrow, but I wouldn't go if I lived 100 yards away

Hope there's less than 1000 Mansfield fans at home tonight. It's a ridiculous cup, and I hope then luring fans with local games doesn't chant fans either.

Wouldn't watch it if it were in my front lawn, I'd rather watch that shite bake off programme tbh, and that's saying something

No idea how many tickets we've sold, but it's hardly been mentioned.

Like you, we'll be making a fair amount of changes by the sounds of it.

Think the attendances in the group's this year will rise with them drawing everyone with teams very local to them. I'm predicting 1800 at our game tonight.

We are only opening 2 stands for tonight's game against Oxford main stand and south (away) stand. I reckon a crowd of about 600.

It's £10.

I'm not going.

£6 for seats £5 for standing tonight. Kids are free. Won't be going though, it might achieve nothing but it's the only way to make the point.

Btw we're without Omar Bugiel tonight, who's off on international duty with Lebanon. They're away to North Korea, lucky them.

Morecambe away for us. Can see a few hundred going from Carlisle since it's a short journey. I still want us to win, and Curle will want the additional money that comes with it.

He is going to come back emboldened by the Juche idea.

DPRK is the true Korea.

I hope we take this competition seriously this season as it could be the only thing we have any chance of success at!

Might have been a good plan had we been playing well. Those tickets will make it onto general sale and I wouldn't even be surprised if we don't sell out. I want to go to Mansfield, but I certainly aren't travelling up from London for a Checkatrade match.

As we got to the QTR's I think we made around £80k from it last season (£10K for each group game) then £20k or so for the round after, and £30k for the round after that...

As others have said, that's poor from your club, and the club must know it, I'd be pissed off if that was us.

As said by one of our fans, it's not like Mansfield away is game of the year

Like most, won't be bothered much about the game against the Stags tonight. Only hope is that whatever side we pick, we don't get any injuries. Supposedly up to 500 Imps travelling but would be surprised if half that bother to make the short journey.

Fuck sake, There will be 2000 odd there if they do. The EFL aren't stupid. We will take 350 at least to County away aswell when we play them.

Still massively down though, Lincoln will sell the 1500 or so tickets we sell them, and if the game at County has anything on it in March, we'll have somewhere between 3-4,000 there, so least that's something.

I seem to recall Evans taking it semi-seriously last season

Doesn't matter, we lost all 3 games last year with crowds massively done and Fenty said we still made money on it.
