I haven't checked multiple levels - may do that a bit later.

Orient played Rotherham in the ‘99 League 2 semis and the ‘15 League 1 playoff final. Brentford, Sheffield United and PNE all have a litany of playoff failures behind them so they’ll be worth checking out. Think the tinpotter might well be right about there never being a repeated final, though.

In my brief look earlier, none jumped out at me.

West Brom v Derby could be a repeat of the 2007 Championship Final this season, and obviously there's the potential for FGR v Tranmere.

Hope they lay a free coach on but I doubt it. Only joking anyway, always enjoyed my trips to yours and will certainly be getting a beer in and not putting my feet on the seats.

i hope you do enjoy your trip up to wirral riviera not too much though , drink a load of ale and do a streak on the pitch ! will not mention seats again now bored of it , most seats are broken by opposition players doing shooting drills before the game , not mansfield though they just play for a draw , swa swa

Another question for our football historians, although I might be shooting myself in the foot with this one. It could galvanize Tranmere to up their game.
Q. How many teams have been promoted in successive seasons via play-offs?

Yes, they beat Brighton at Wembley in 1991 when they were managed by Warnock. They came straight down the following season and missed out on the inception of the Premier League.

Brighton also went down the following season. I wonder if there have been any other cases of play-off finalists both being relegated the following season? (Si Robin will probably know the answer to that #playoffguru)

In 06/07 Watford and Leeds were both relegated having played in the Championship Final in 06.

That's the only one I can be certain of. No runners-up in the League 2 playoff finals have ever been relegated the following season and no Conference playoff winners have gone straight down.

Shrewsbury only confirmed safety last week I think, or the week before otherwise we could have had both Rotherham and Shrewsbury this season. I can't see any other time it could have happened following the 3rd tier playoff final, but my knowledge of that level in the early days of the playoffs is not that great.

Tranmere’s biggest home crowd this season was 12,553 on a Friday night for a FA Cup match against Tottenham.
Tranmere’s biggest home league match attendance is 9,468 against FGR.

FGR’s largest home crowd of season will probably be tomorrow verses Exeter where around 4,000 tickets have been sold. [Largest to date is 3,582 verses Cheltenham]
I expect the play-off crowd to be greater than 4,000.
The largest crowd at any game that FGR have played in front of has been that 9,468 at Prenton Park.
[The best league crowd at a Tranmere game was at Lincoln with 9,658: 190 more than the FGR match.]

Any of you Tranmere guys know if that Tottenham crowd number will be exceeded in play-off?
I hope so, it would be a double for FGR? :bg:
Whatever, almost certainly best attended games at both grounds will be against each other. Assuming we play each other before a possible all Rover's Final.

On my first post I said stats between the two clubs are very similar and this seems to be another one where we are again linked.
Obviously then both play off games will be bloody awful 0-0 draws.

It is highly unlikely that the crowd for the Tottenham game will be exceeded.

Spurs brought 1,600 fans (they sold 2,000 tickets but 400 did not show up) and the home areas were completely sold out. The home sections might sell out out for the play off game (circa 11,000 fans), although this is less likely if the game is on a Monday night.

However, because of the difficulties we have in segregating small numbers of away fans, there are likely to be about 1,600 empty seats in the Cowshed Stand (unless you can find 2,000 travelling fans down the back of the couch), even if there is demand for more than 11,000 tickets from Tranmere fans.

So, in summary, I think the gate will be between 10,000 and 11,000.

We tried our hardest to buck that trend...but in the end couldn't quite manage it.

Right, renamed this thread to better suit it's new purpose. Let's have all the squabbling and bickering over how FGR are the modern version of the Damned United and all the other build up stuff in here.

In all seriousness, this should be a tasty couple of games with lots of bragging rights and bad blood at stake. Given FGR's run of wins against Tranmere, is it a bold call to say I can see Tranmere winning this?

We need an early goal so FGR are forced to attack us and we can hit them on the counter. Going behind and having to endure their "tactics" again, doesn't bear thinking about.

FGR start favourite to win this one having finished the season stronger and beaten us twice on the field already this season. Fortunately for us though it doesn’t always work out this way as we found after doing the double over Hartlepool to only get knocked out by them in the playoffs.
It’s going to be an extremely hostile and passionate crowd at Prenton Park and my biggest concern is that this doesn’t spill over onto the pitch.
