Luckily Chester were nothing special. 5 points clear and a game in hand, shaping up very nicely.

We were missing Asante today and he makes the world of difference to us in attack with his holdup play and goal scoring threat, you are very solid and that should be enough to win you the league but I would expect that with the money you have spent on your squad.

Bradford PA 0-3 Southport.

I'm very surprised BPA got the game on given the conditions over the last day or so, but fair play to them. A pudding of a pitch led to a real battle with not much free flowing football. Astles scored following a free kick which their keeper flapped at and the defence couldn't clear. Second goal Greene was put through on the right, none of their players seemed to bother to close him down and he slotted home. Morgan got the winner from 25 yards with a dipping shot.

Up to 4th now, which considering we are not actually that good says a lot about the standard of this league this season.

Didn't deserve to lose today but a bit fed up of conceding scraggy goals like that one. Decent game but nothing up top without Asante. He plays and one of those many flashes across the goal late on goes in.

I wish there was an option to bet on this stuff  It gets the odd mention from others, but Chester fans seem uniquely obsessed with our budget. Whatever the actual figure, it's definitely less than the last 2 years where we've been shit at this level and a whole level less than the season we dropped from the National League with a budget that should have been competitive for at least the play-off spots. I make it that we're due a bit of a run.

I went to Chester v York today, largely to see how Steve McNulty was getting on. I thought it was an enjoyable game which York generally controlled, in large part due to the experience of Macca, Newton and the rest.

Chester played some nice football at times, but only really threatened in the last fifteen or twenty minutes after their substitutions. York always seemed to have the upper hand in midfield.

It was good to hear that the 'Steeeeve' shout is still going strong.

York’s budget is less than last 2 seasons, nobody said anything then.we had players on league wages left over from Mills rein. The difference is they were all out of contract in summer leaving Watson with option to sign top players.
McNulty has been a ridiculous signing for this level plus Jameson from Blyth is best keeper seen at York since Nick Pope, can’t believe Darlo fans said he was shit.we don’t look like letting goals in.
Today we had 6 players playing that was signed by Martin Gray who should get credit for.
Chester for first 15 and last 15 were great and probably should of got a point.number 3&5 are quality, but what’s with your keeper doesn’t seem to take an eternity with ball at his feet which just played into our hands, seemed like he was time waisting but losing?
Anyway nobody ever won league in October ask Liverpool fans,we need to take 1 game at a time and get out of FA cup and trophy very soon.

There were a lot of Tranmere fans there today from what I've seen after our match was postponed! Good to see Steve doing well at York.

We gifted the game to you today by dreadful team selection. Had Waring and Elliott come on at half time or even started the game I think we get at least a draw. Mangers fault completely. I see you winning the league though as you're defensively sound and we're not.

Aye, we'd get three players for what the Fat Centre Half is on.

You may not quite have won the league yet, but having, over the past 7 seasons, watched the likes of Chester, Solihull or Salford when they were just a level above everyone else in squad & set up, and with no other obvious challengers, I think you should be immensely confident about enjoying the National League next year.

Been away for a few days, so not sure if this has been mentioned or not.

Paul Cox can’t wait to get started after he was appointed as the new manager of Kettering Town.

The former Eastwood Town, Mansfield Town and Barrow boss was confirmed as the permanent replacement to Nicky Eaden on Thursday after the club completed a 30-day search for a new manager.

Good appointment on paper IMO, he will need to overhaul about half the current squad though if we are going to stay up.

Unfortunately, we have a fair few fans whom if you added up their cumulative knowledge, it would fit comfortably on a pin head.

I and plenty others always rated Jameson, he was excellent for us in the Evostik, and decent in the NLN *despite* a string of bloopers in that season. The section of fans mentioned above would not let those few bloopers go, and tried to destroy him.

I'm happy for him that he's playing to his full potential, good on the lad.

Hope you've got a massive budget for him to fritter away.

Are you bank-rolled, because Cox's success has been at clubs where he has a big budget.

What's the figures then?

I'm guessing York is £1m, therefore yours would be 400k?

I've read on here that York's is £900,000K and ours is around £360,000K, but our fan Stuart Murphy may be paying Akwasi Asantes' wages. He was last season, but not sure if that's carried over into this.

Is that total budgets including management, or just playing budgets?

Both dwarf ours, playing budget around 250k (having said that, that should be more than enough for part time players)

Our playing budget (from an actual real life source) is around £600k. Which is about £300k less than the previous 2 years when strangely nobody seemed all that concerned by our budget. A number of existing first-teamers took significant paycuts, hence the pre-season overhaul being less severe than many expected.
At least one of the Blyth players we brought in is on record as saying the salary doesn't match what he was earning as a part-time player + his regular earnings, but they wished to pursue the dream of being a pro.

Funny how all the talking is about the budget, common knowledge that York’s were 900k for last 2 seasons.Chairman is on record saying they will have a very competitive budget but cut a lot from last 2 years, also Jamieson said he was on more money playing part time at Blyth and working but wanted to be full time pro.
Absolute no chance it’s anyway near a million?

I heard it was around a million in previous seasons, didn't know it had been cut this season to 600k.

To be fair, I'm not concerned about your budget - you get gates of 3,000 and yes, the chairman tops that up as well. I'd expect York to have the best budget in the league simply because they are the biggest club.

What concerns me is pipsqueak clubs playing in front of a few hundred who can out pay Darlo.

In his brief spell with us we ended up with over forty players, a few were loans but many were given very decent two year contracts. Only two or three were any good! Don't forget all his cronies that appear with him too as coaches, physios etc.
God help your club financially and the hoofball is awful to watch :(

That is why I think Gray did a good job, most games this season been played with 6-7 players signed before Watson came in,his hands were tied due to ridiculous wages Mills handed out,Parkin,Bencheriff,Newton,Heslop,Law,Parslow.Newton & Moke.
Newton only left from Mills days signed a 3 year contract,Moke resigned in summer on a new deal..
With those of books budget would be considerable lower.
Josh Law refused to go out on loan last season due wages he was on?
The club has been run awfully in past and that is why fans are upset with board.
Watson has done an brilliant job making Players from Gray better and signing good players and getting fans back on board again, but we also owe Martin Gray.
